Pop diva Madonna has got her new daughter Mercy converted to Kabbalah as soon as she arrived in London.

The singer flew the four-year-old Malawian orphan from the African country's capital Lilongwe to London to start a new life but rushed her to a Kabbalah centre first, as soon as her private jet landed, reports contactmusic.com.

Madonna was also accompanied by her other children Lourdes, 12, Rocco, 8, and David, 3, for Mercy's first lesson in the Jewish-based faith.

'Wolverine' bags Rupees 75 million in just a week in India?

Hugh Jackman starrer 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', released Friday, has grossed around Rupees 75 million (1.5 million dollars) in its opening weekend in India.

Having already topped the US box office by raking in $160 million in its first weekend and with collections of almost $350 million worldwide so far, "Wolverine" broke the opening record for any Hollywood film in India.

Its collection surpasses hits like "Angels & Demons", "Fast & Furious", "The Dark Knight" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull".

Distributed by 20th Century Fox, it released in two languages - English and Hindi and grossed more than Rs.20 million on its opening day.

"We've had a strong opening for 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' across the country. The audience reaction has been very positive which is helping build great word of mouth for the film as a must see," Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios India said in a statement released Monday.

Directed by Gavin Hood, it stars Liev Schreiber, Dominic Monaghan, Will. I. M. and Ryan Reynolds apart from Jackman in the lead.

Leading up to the events of the "X-Men" trilogy, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" tells the story of Jimmy Logan's (Jackman) genesis, his violent and romantic past and his complex relationship with his half-brother Victor Creed (Schreiber).

Logan's rivalry with Victor leads him to participate in the ominous half-billion dollar 'Weapon X' programme making him virtually indestructible, as an adamantium-clawed Wolverine.

Bollywood still takes inspirations from Hollywood?

Hollywood films have been the inspiration for many of the Hindi film industry's biggest hits.

Right from cult classics like 'Baazi' (1951) to 'Sholay' (1975) and 'Baazigar' (1993) - and even 'Ghajini' (2008) - all have some western movie as the stimulus. The Hollywood influence is evident in some of the forthcoming biggies like 'Paa', 'Action Replay', 'Agyaat' and 'Pyaar Impossible'.

Guru Dutt's debut 'Baazi' was inspired by the Rita Hayworth starrer 'Gilda' (1946), while 'Sholay' is widely called an 'Indian curry Western film', with inspiration from seven Hollywood films including - 'Once Upon A Time In The West' (1968), 'Spaghetti Westerns', 'The Wild Bunch' (1969), 'Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid' (1973) and 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' (1969).

'Baazigar' and 'Ghajini' are said to be Indianised versions of 'A Kiss Before Dying' (1991) 'Memento' (2000) respectively.

'Paa' supposedly draws its plot from the 1996 comedy-drama 'Jack', about a boy who ages faster than normal due to a disease, while Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Action Replay' is an alleged take-off on the reverse-ageing drama 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'.

Promos of Ram Gopal Varma's horror thriller 'Agyaat' suggest sequences from sci-fi horror 'Predator' (1987). 'Pyaar Impossible' is apparently sketched around reality TV series 'Beauty and the Geek' and 1999s 'Notting Hill' - on a relationship between a film actress and her fan.

David Dhawan, Karan Johar and Abbas-Mustan are working on remakes of 'The Wedding Crashers' (2005), 'Stepmom' (1998) and 'The Italian Job' (1969 and 2003).

Film critic Omar Qureshi says it is due to the lack of writers that filmmakers are visiting Hollywood movies for inspiration.

'The biggest motivation for making a successful movie is that it brings money and appreciation. So filmmakers go for a tried and tested formula by taking inspiration from Hollywood. Otherwise there are only a very few talented writers who've come out with original content... it's actually not about writers,' film critic Omar Qureshi told IANS.

Hollywood has been an influence even in the 1940s.

Mehboob Khan's 1940 movie 'Aurat' that he remade 17 years later into 'Mother India' was inspired from Hollywood flick 'The Good Earth' (1937).

'There has been a constant borrowing of ideas between the two industries. Take for example 'The Magnificent Seven' (1960) that was inspired from Akira Kurosawa's 'Seven Samurai' (1954) that went on to inspire 'Sholay'. Even 'The Parent Trap' (1998) has a plot similar to that of 'Do Kaliyan' (1968),' Qureshi said.

US-based Indian origin Hollywood filmmaker Nagendra Karri said: 'It's the lack of scripts and proper writers that is making Indian filmmakers copy Hollywood. In fact that is one of the reasons Kamal Haasan used to get his scripts written by French writers and then adapt them to make classics,' Karri told IANS during a recent trip to India.

'Even if you are adapting or copying, at least give credits to the original, so that they don't feel cheated or offended.'

Film historian S.M.M. Ausaja says that though there is no dearth of good content here, filmmakers don't prefer to invest time in searching for good stories for their movies.

'There is no dearth of content here. It's only a question of shortcut that the filmmakers take because they want a ready script. We've always been inspired from the west... Lifting has been here since the 1940s.

'There are only a few Indian directors who've made authentic films like Ashutosh Gowariker who meticulously gives time to his scripts,' he added.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's hits like 'Baazigar', 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Josh', 'Mohabattein', 'Main Hoon Na' and 'Chak De India' have based their stories respectively around films like 'A Kiss Before Dying', 'Sleepless in Seattle' (1993), 'West Side Story', 'Dead Poet's Society' (1989), 'Never Been Kissed' (1999) and 'Mighty Ducks'.

Ram Gopal Varma, known for making films on the underworld, also took inspiration from 'The Godfather' (1972) to make 'Sarkar'.

Qureshi says things have changed now as Hollywood filmmakers are keeping a close tab to ensure that Indian filmmakers don't lift ideas without taking permission.

'Earlier filmmakers were doing it blindly, but now with Hollywood keeping an eye on us they are doing it with their consent.'
Recently, film banners like B.R. Films, Mirchi Movies and David Dhawan have faced the flak for lifting movies like 'My Cousin Vinny' (1992), 'Harry Potter' title and 'Hitch' (2005) respectively for desi versions of forthcoming 'Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai' and 2008 dud 'Hari Puttar' and 'Partner' (2007).

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie says she wants to follow in the footsteps of late British actress and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn.

The 'Tomb Raider' actress, who is raising six children with superstar partner Brad Pitt, admits that she hopes to someday be able to help as many people as the 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' star, reports China Daily.

'I'm lucky to be in this,' Jolie said, referring to her role as a UN Goodwill Ambassador. 'I'm sure Audrey Hepburn felt the same.'

Hepburn, who died in 1993, spent almost 40 years championing the cause of impoverished children across the globe. In 1992, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work and like Jolie was also a UN Goodwill Ambassador.

Movie bosses have claimed that reports saying that Robert Pattinson was running away from fans when he was hit by a taxi are completely false and 'exaggerated'.

Amrita Arora's ex hasn't taken off the tattoo of her name

Mumbai: Amrita Arora's ex-beau Usman Afzal still sports the tattoo that has her name inscribed on his arm. He had also inked the date 20.11.04 they first met.

Even though the actress split with the English county cricketer last year and has recently tied the knot with Bandra-based Shakeel Ladhak, Amu remains on the forearm of her former flame!

Says a source, "It is not a big issue for Usman. As he has been continuously playing cricket as the captain of the Surrey team, he can't have his arm in a bandage. It will affect his game. Even though Amu and Usman have gone their separate ways, the families are still in touch with each other."

Usman's brother Aquib Afzal is currently in Mumbai to promote his debut flick, Let's Dance. Admits Aquib, "The tattoo is still on my brother's arm. But it is no big deal. It is not that he is keeping it as a memory. For him, it is now a fashion statement. As for when will he erase it that's the big question."

Shiney Ahuja Rape case!

Rekha Mane, who got the alleged rape victim a job at Shiney’s house, was the first to meet her after the incident

Rekha Mane was the first person to meet Swati (name of victim changed) after the alleged rape. It was through Mane’s contact that Swati had landed the job in Shiney Ahuja’s house.

Rekha, who lives in Nala Sopara, works as a part-time maid in Oshiwara, including Ahuja’s society.

Swati lives with her cousin in Virar. Rekha and Swati used to meet in the society between 5 and 6 pm every day to go home.

According to her police statement, Rekha met Swati, who was in a traumatic state, below Ahuja’s house after the day’s work on Sunday.

"Swati came out, hugged me and started crying. She did not say a word and I thought sahib must have scolded her," said Rekha.

However, after a while, she confessed that Shiney had raped her. Even the security personnel had noticed her weeping and inquired.

"I immediately called her uncle Mahadev and narrated the incident to him.
He in turn informed Swati’s parents who advised us to lodge a police complaint.
We went to Oshiwara police station, but didn’t have the guts to file a complaint.
Then, I took them back to the society and narrated the incident to a resident I work for," Rekha said in her statement.

Then another neighbour was also informed. The two residents advised that Swati be taken to a hospital. But they all ended up going to the police station at 7.30 pm.
They narrated the incident to a shocked duty officer who informed his senior. Half an hour later they lodged her complaint.

Later, when cops went to Shiney’s place, he was watching television with a friend.

Swati came to Mumbai from Roha, Raigad, only a month-and-a-half ago. Her uncle, Mahadev, said, "We’re poor people and are going through a lot of pain since the incident.

Her parents and relatives are tense. We know nothing about Mumbai. We have filed a complaint against big people."

Another relative said, "None of us are in a state to talk. Mahadev is very close to Swati. The entire family has been crying and no one is eating. This is a sad time for us."
