The group's new track is set to top the USBillboard pop chart this week after selling341,000 copies in its week of release and the boy band are thrilled at their huge triumph. Irish band member Niall Horan said: "We're so happy with the success of the single in the USA and can't wait for everyone to hear our new album. Thank you to all the fans once again." The success comes shortly after the group : which also includes Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne - failed to top the UK charts, being beaten into third place by Rihanna's 'Diamonds' at number one and 'Gangnam style' by Korean star PSY at number two. Despite One Direction finishing third in 2010′s 'The X Factor' in the UK behind winner Matt Cardleand runner-up Rebecca Ferguson they have been more successful than both other acts put together since signing with Columbia Records. Earlier this year the band's debut album, 'Up All Night', topped the US Billboard chart, gaining them a Guinness World Record for being the first British band to top the chart with their first album. The success of One Direction has been compared to the British invasion of the 60s when the Beatlesand the Rolling Stones became huge stars in America.

Justin Bieber and Ryan Gosling are distantly related, according to new research. The Canadian stars share a common family connection dating back 400 years from the earliest settlers in Quebec and are 11th cousins once removed. Justin is also related to fellow Canadians Avril Lavigne and Celine Dion, thanks to common relatives Mathurin Roy and Marguerite Bire with Avril and Jacques Vezina and Marie Boisdon with Dion, according to Youthgossip.com. Genealogist Lesley Anderson admits such discoveries are "rare" and is shocked to discover how many Canadian entertainers are related. She said: "Discoveries like this are rare, so the fact that some of Canada's top entertainment industry stars are all related is especially fascinating. "There's something special about discovering a shared connection, and to be able to go so far back in history to do so is one of the most satisfying aspects of family history research." Justin and Avril have met on several occasions, including at the BRIT Awards in London in 2011, although it is not known if they knew about the connection at the time. Quebec was populated by French settlers from the early 1500s, before being conquered by the British in the mid 18th century.

Martina Mcbride's West Virginia Gig Axed Singer Martina Mcbride has apologised to fans after cancelling a sold-out gig in West Virginia. The country star was set to play at West VirginiaUniversity in Morgantown on 20 October (12), but organisers have called off the date due to overcrowding concerns as a football game is scheduled to take place on campus at the same time. In a post on her blog, MCBride insists she is sorry for the mix-up and assures fans she will "sing my whole heart out" when she plays the rescheduled date next year (Jan13). She writes, "Believe me I am bummed. It always sucks to be the artist when this happens because there is always the chance there will be people who may not be able to make it for the rescheduled show. They will be able to get theirticket money back, and should be able to cancel hotels, but may not be able to get their flightmoney back if they have non-refundable ticketsand are coming in from out of town. I just hate that! The last thing I ever want to do is postpone a show, let alone a sold out one! "While this was unforeseen, out of our control, and no one's fault, I still want you to know that I'm incredibly sorry for this situation. "Just know that when I hit the stage in Morgantown on January 12th, I will sing my whole heart out for you!"
