Rap superstar JAY-Z brought together a star-studded line-up including his wife BEYONCE, SEAN 'DIDDY' COMBS, KANYE WEST, RIHANNA and MARY J. BLIGE on Friday night (11Sep09) to help raise money for victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
More than 20,000 fans filled New York City's famous Madison Square Garden for a special tribute concert, eight years to the day after the city was brought to a standstill by the Al Qaeda-lead attacks.
And they were treated to a spectacular show, including duets with Kanye West and Rihanna and a solo performance from Jay-Z's spouse Beyonce.
After paying tribute to Michael Jackson with a cover of the Jackson 5 hit I Want You Back, the New Yorker also offered a call of solidarity to the sell-out crowd in his hometown, telling them, 'They believed they would weaken us. They were sorely mistaken... We stand here tonight even stronger.'
The one-off gig raised more than USD 1 million (Pounds 666,000) for the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund.
