Rani's tribute to her favourites - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

After the outspoken journalist Meera Geti of No One Killed Jessica, Rani Mukherjee is all set to come back in action with Aiyyaa, which is also giving her the chance of fulfilling a dream. She will be paying tribute to three legendary ladies from the 90s: Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla by donning one look of each of the actress' from one of their many popular films. Rani is displaying Sridevi's famous Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai' (Chaalbaaz, 1989), Madhuri's popular Dhak Dhak look(Beta, 1992) and Juhi's avatar from Ghazab Ka Hai Din' (Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, 1989).

These 3 actresses are the ones Rani really looks up to, and has keenly watched all their movies and idolizes them. She has also tried enacting their styles.

In Aiyyaa, Rani plays a girl whose parents are desperately trying to get her married. She says that this is something each and every girl faces, and that is why girls of marriageable age will really relate with her character Meenakshi Deshpande, a Maharashtrian girl. "To some extent, even I can relate to my character," she added.

Aiyyaa releases in October directed by Sachin Kundalkar and has Rani dancing to three different dance styles: Belly dancing, Tollywood and Lavani.

Arjun Rampal in Istanbul, ditched Heroine - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

The much awaited release of Heroine finally happens, but apparently the hero' of the heroine' was nowhere to be seen. Arjun Rampal is in Istanbul, recreating himself before he begins with promoting Prakash Jha's Chakravyuh.

The actor had been missing from the promotions of the film as well, but to that Madhur Bhandarkar had said that Arjun and Randeep are both surprise packages and they will be in the limelight once the film releases. Kareena Kapoor had also been asked once about where her hero is, to which she jokingly replied that Madhur is the hero of the film.

Arjun's friend defended him by saying that Arjun didn't have anything much to do in the promotional events as the film's title clearly speaks for itself and it revolves around the Heroine. "Arjun was mainly just asked about his intimate scenes with Kareena at the few promotional events that he attended so he preferred staying out of it," said the friend. Arjun is also said to be busy with the post production work of Chakravyuh.

In one of his earlier interviews, Arjun had stated that he was initially hesitant about Heroine as it was meant to be about the heroine, but then he liked the way his role was finally given shape. We wonder what then keeps him away from the post release hustle bustle.

However, Kareena has overworked herself with all the promotional activities and according to a friend has set off for a holiday to UK with Saif for her birthday, and she very well deserved this getaway after putting her heart and soul into Heroine.

Arjun will be returning from Istanbul soon for Sudhir Mishra's Inkaar.

2.5 million views in 4 days for first trailer of Jab Tak Hai Jaan - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

The very first trailer of Jab Tak Hai Jaan was released on YouTube 5 days ago. In 4 days the trailer had garnered 2.5 million views which is a record itself. No other Hindi film managed to get so many views within the first few days.

The first trailer of Heroine, which got two million views in 7 days, held the previous record.

Yash Raj Films is overwhelmed by the response to the trailer. The 2:30 minute trailer shows various images of Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma at beautiful locations varying from London to Kashmir supported by the voice of Shah Rukh Khan who recites the poem Jab Tak Hai Jaan, written by Aditya Chopra.

It seems like Bollywoodfans are really impatiently waiting for this movie to release. Unfortunately we have to wait a little longer as Jab Tak Hai Jaan is scheduled for a release on November 13th.

Just in case you need to see it again!

Vidya To be or Not to be Married? - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

You would be forgiven for thinking that since The Dirty Picture and Kahaani it had become a little quite in camp Vidya Balan. However it seems to be quite the opposite. Vidya is working on her second project with Emraan Hashmi but its not just Bollywood's serial kisser thats keeping her occupied. If rumours are to be believed, Vidya is preparing to tie the knot with UTV head Siddarth Roy Kapoor near December.

While nothing has been confirmed of the wedding date, Vidya brought speculation to a near hault by publicly confirming her relationship with the UTV CEO. Before the public announcement both we often picture out at parties or away on holiday trips.

While discussing her relationship previously The Dirty Picture star has said "I don't have any plans yet and there is no engagement ring yet. It's a while away and I am in no hurry. But it's on my mind and there is a plan at some point. There is someone in my life."

Not long after however Vidya said during a sideline interview at a Kahaani event that "I do believe in the institution of marriage. I will not ignore it for a long time. I will definitely get married."

The couple met on the sets of No One Killed Jessica and it is rumoured that they have been dating since then. While speculation about the couples relationship may have haulted for a short period of time the rumour mill keeps spinning faster as it is reported both are very busy preparing for a wedding in the very near future.

Other than wedding plans Vidya is set to work on her next film Ghanchakkar which is to be directed by Raj Kumar Gupta.

Rowdy Rathore Movie Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

It's been more than 7 years, since we saw Akshay Kumar in an out-an-out action film. Known as the Khiladi of Bollywood' for his popular Khiladi films in the 90s, Akki returns to what he does best bash the baddies on screen. In Rowdy Rathore, directed by Prabhu Deva who last directed Wanted, Akshay has a double-role. He plays Siva (the smart thief) and Vikram Rathore (the IPS officer).

The film is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and has music composed by Sajid-Wajid.

Story: Rowdy Rathore is about Siva, a thief who falls in love with Priya (Sonakshi Sinha). It's love at first sight, as he promises her to give up all his bad deeds to lead a good life together. Just then enters a 6 year old Neha, who calls Siva her father. Out of nowhere, people start attacking him and Siva becomes the target of a gang. Why do they want to kill him? Who is Neha? Watch Rowdy Rathore to find out!

Rowdy Rathore Movie Review

Before we get into the negatives, let's look at the positive aspects of the film and who the target audience are..
Rowdy Rathore is a film for the masses. If you've seen Dabangg or Singham, Rowdy Rathore is similar but with an added twist.
The action only begins to unfold in the second half, as Akshay Kumar proves why he's called the Khiladi. There is a lot that goes into making an action scene look convincing, apart from the action choreographer who plays a major role, the actors need to get their body language right. That's exactly where Akshay shines. He's brilliant in the action sequences, with comic timing that is unmatched in the industry.
The sequences that involve Akshay Kumar and the young child artist, touches your heart.
The dialogues will work big time with the single-screen audience. "Joh main bolta hoon, woh main karta hoon. Joh main nahi bolta, woh main definitely karta hook", "Don't angry me" and "Rathore.. Rowdy Rathore". There are several such one-liners or punch dialogues, which are one of the biggest attractions for the masses.
There are several special appearances and most of them in the Chinta Ta Chitta Chitta song. Kareena Kapoor looks beautiful and does a couple of moves from Criminal and Chammak Challo (both form Ra One). South superstar Vijay and director Prabhu Deva too make small appearances in the same song. Mumaith Khan and Maryam Zakaria (who was last seen in the Agent Vinod mujra) are part of the post-interval item song. Maryam looks very pretty.

What we didn't particularly like
The first half! The love angle between Akshay and Sonakshi doesn't work, as the film takes forever to get to the point. To add to the woes, there are 3 songs which are forced into the narrative. Why do we need so many songs in hindi films, like seriously??
Sonakshi Sinha is wasted. She has absolutely NOTHING to do, expect dance to 4 odd songs and hug the hero. Her only noteworthy scene is just before the climax, where she verbally abuses the villain.
Rowdy Rathore is not for everyone. The urban audience may not like the excess of action (a bit of blood and gore included). Also, it's all about entertainment here, so not much in the film for those looking for sense or logic.

Performances: Akshay Kumar towers above the other actors, director and the script! He makes even the most mediocre of scenes, entertaining. We've already spoken enough about Sonakshi, she should seriously look into doing roles that gives her scope to perform. Nassar, who plays the negative role, is brilliant. The other supporting actors are all good.

To sum up, if you've watched and enjoyed films like Dabangg, Singham and Wanted, you'll like Rowdy Rathore. At the box-office, the film has already opened to a mind-boggling response at single screens and it should continue to do well there. But it's at the multiplexes where Rowdy Rathore could falter after the initial weekend.

Do post your Rowdy Rathore reviews in the comments section below and stay tuned for all the updates box-office related updates.

Shanghai Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Dibakar Banerjee, the talented director of films like Khosla Ka Ghosla and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye, returns with a political thriller starring Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin.

Story: Based on Vasilis Vasilikos's novel Z, Shanghai is about politics and corruption. Professor Dr Ahmedi (played by Prosenjeet Chatterjee), who is leading an anti-IBP movement, arrives in Bharath Nagar to deliver a public speech against the construction business park in the small city. He is involved in an extra-marital affair with Shalini (Kalki), who is a part of the movement.

Inspite of all the death threats, Ahmedi delivers the speech, but gets knocked down by a vehicle soon after. The driver is arrested and charged of drinking and driving.

IAS officer Krishnan (Abhay Deol) is asked to investigate the case. Jogi Parmar (Emraan Hashmi) is a videographer, who falls for Shalini and has footage of the moments preceding the hit and run case.

Shanghai Review

Like most Dibakar Banerjee films, Shanghai too is fast-paced, has a multi-layered plot, the proceedings are real and every character is well-etched. The film is engrossing and has enough shock-value attached, to keep the viewers hooked. But for a film that starts off so well, it loses track somewhere in the second half. The climax was a major let-down.

A film like Shanghai, also demands that you keep your thinking cap on, it requires you to put the bits and pieces together to completely understand and follow the proceedings. Which is exactly why the film isn't for everyone. The Dabangg / Rowdy Rathore loving audience of today, will walk out disappointed as Shanghai offers very little entertainment value.

Known for extracting fantastic performances, Banerjee successfully gets Emraan Hashmi to shed his serial-kisser image and perform. The result? Emraan shines, in what is easily the best performance of his career. As for Abhay Deol, he does very well apart from the forced Tamilian accent. Kalki emotes well, but she's done such roles several times in the past. Prosenjit Chatterjee is good in a small role. Others worth a mention are Anant Jog - who shines in a role that doesn't require him to say nonsense' or don't mind' after every sentence. Supriya Pathak makes an impact in very little screen-time that she gets.

Overall, Shanghai keeps you hooked for most parts, but it certainly isn't one of Dibakar Banerjee's best works.

Rating: For a great first half, good direction and fantastic performances.

Teri Meri Kahaani Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

When the first Teri Meri Kahaani trailer released, we were impressed – the music was good and the Shahid Kapoor – Priyanka Chopra chemistry was better. Directed by Kunal Kohli (Fanaa, Hum Tum), the film is a timeless love story that spans over an entire century.

Teri Meri Kahaani is divided into three completely different era's and each love story has a different feel to it.

Mumbai (1960) – The film kicks off in the post-independence era of the 60′s and honestly, this was our favorite of the three. Rukhsar is a successful actress, while Govind is a struggling musician. It's a love triangle with Prachi Desai (plays Maahi), who is in love with Govind.

London (2012) – Right then the film cuts to the current generation of Facebook, Twitter and technology. Krish and Radha bump into each other on the streets of London and instantly connect. There is a twist in the tale when Radha isn't too pleased about Krish's past – the fact that he broke up with his girlfriend just minutes before he bumped into her.

Lahore (1910) – And finally, just before the interval we move to the early 1910s. Javed is a charismatic character and the audience will love him. One day, while being chased by the British, he bumps into Aaradhana. The two fall in love.

We had two major issues with Teri Meri Kahaani. One, for such a short film (about 2 hours runtime), there are way too many songs. Two, the way it ended. The climax just didn't work. Revealing why, would be a storyline spoiler.

Otherwise, Teri Meri Kahaani is a well-narrated breezy love story, with some beautiful moments. Shahid Kapoor delivers one of the best performances of his career. He plays each of his 3 characters well; a special mention for the Shayari moments between Javed and Aaradhana. Priyanka Chopra portrays all her characters with ease and shares lovely chemistry with Shahid. Prachi Desai does well in a cameo.

Coming to Sajid-Wajid's music, of the 4 to 5 songs, Mukhtasar and Allah Jaane were two of my personal favorites. The cinematography was good. The sets were perfectly recreated for each era, with attention given to every small detail. Stay back after the movie to watch more of this during the closing credits.

Overall, apart from the climax which was a major let down, Teri Meri Kahaani has good songs and moments that make romantic films touch your heart. If you like Shahid Kapoor, go watch Teri Meri Kahaani now!

Amitabh Bachchan reviews Gangs of Wasseypur - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Amitabh Bachchan, who took time out from his busy schedule to watch this week's release Gangs of Wasseypur, is all praise for the film, it's director Anurag Kashyap and actor Manoj Bajpai.

Here are some excerpts of the review' from his blog.
Quite undoubtedly the moment of the day has been the film Gangs of Wasseypur' (GOW), which I have had the great privilege to see. Indian Cinema at its best, honest, stark and as painfully real as possible.
For one that has been born and lived a major portion of his life in almost similar environment, or at least exposed to it to some degree, I found so much that I could well relate to. And that has led to the authenticity.
Anurag Kashyap has not done any fancy shot taking and allowed the visuals to flow as they would, were one to be living those circumstances in real time
Manoj Bajpayee in particular, and of all the artists right down to the smallest in capacity and presence, has been beautifully done. No one looked or performed out of place. They just did enough and that was effective enough.
Importantly though, the film Gangs of Wasseypur touched and expanded on a topic that apart from the blood and gore and the violence educated us on a social issue which most of us may never have heard of. The disparities yes, on more social and moral levels, but also on a factor that concerns religion and the evil that exists within most of the polity even now about it.
In all a glorious film and one that I would recommend strongly.

Based on a true story by Zeishan Quadri, Gangs of Wasseypur is set in Wasseypur, Jharkhand, known for gang war between gangster Faheem Khan and businessman Sabir Alam over a scrap business.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the first part was released last Friday. The release date of the second is yet to be announced.

Bol Bachchan Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

I have never been a huge fan of Rohit Shetty's brand of cinema, but enjoyed watching two of his films. The first in the Golmaal series and his last release Singham, which had tremendous entertainment and repeat value.

But those in-between films like Golmaal Returns, All The Best and Golmaal 3, especially the later, were outright unbearable. If you enjoyed watching those films, don't bother reading the review further, go ahead and book your tickets.

Others, read on..

Starring Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Asin, Prachi Desai and Krushna Abhishek, Bol Bachchan is an action comedy, inspired by Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1979 classic Gol Mal.

Story: In an attempt to save a drowning kid, Abbas Ali (Abhishek Bachchan) breaks into a forbidden temple and gets himself into trouble. One of the strongmen in the village, Prithviraj (Ajay Devgan) saves his life and hires him as an accountant. But to hide the fact that he is a muslim, Abbas' friend (comedian Krushna) names him Abhishek Bachchan! What ensues is a comedy of errors and mistaken identities. How will Abbas hide his real identity?

Bol Bachchan Review

The problem with Bol Bachchan is that the entire film comes across as forced. For instance, Prachi Desai's character runs away and finds herself abducted by her own evil-brother. Why? Just to include an action sequence in the first half. For the second half, she decides to do a repeat act. Escapes, gets abducted, the lead men arrive just in time and bash-up all the 100 goons without breaking a sweat.

Much like the situations, the comedy is forced too. In an attempt to make you laugh, Rohit Shetty tries too hard, includes every trick that has worked for him so far. There is a parallel plot from the original Gol Maal too, unfortunately, this isn't a patch on the 1970′s classic.

Ajay Devgn does well, his broken english dialogues were funny. Abhishek entertains with his eunuch act. Apart from that, Bol Bachchan has very little to offer.

Comedy Circus star Krushna Abhishek is too loud and hams throughout. The ladies get little screen-time and manage to look pretty. Arsani and Neeraj Vohra are over-the-top but funny in a few scenes.

Overall, Bol Bachchan is silly, absurd and easily Rohit Shetty's worst. We suggest you rent a DVD of the old Gol Maal instead. Whether you like the cinema of the 70s or not, be rest assured, you'll love the Amol Palekar – Utpal Dutt film. It ranks high with Andaaz Apna Apna as one of the best comedies to come out of Bollywood.

Cocktail Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

There are several reasons why Cocktail was one of the keenly-awaited releases this month; the music was hugely popular, Imtiaz Ali directed of Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal is credited as the story-writer and the film is directed by Homi Adajania, who last directed the critically acclaimed Being Cyrus.

The chemistry between Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and new-face Diana Penty, was also something to look forward to.

Story: Cocktail is the journey of three different characters. Veronica, a young girl who carries a carefree-attitude and lives life to the fullest. Her life is all about parties, booze and men! One day, Veronica finds a crying Meera (Diana) in a loo and gives her a place to stay. Meera is a traditional Indian girl, with deep cultural values quite different from the wild Veronica. Yet the two quickly become friends.

Enter Gautham (Saif) a charming good looking man and women love his company. Veronica and Gautham bump into each other at a night club and start living in together. The three soon become good friends.

All hell breaks lose when Gautham falls for his girlfriend's best friend.. Meera!

Cocktail Review

Cocktail starts off well, the first half is fast-paced and has some genuinely funny tongue-in-cheek humor. It's a lot of fun to watch three different characters live together, share their lives and gradually develop a strong bonding. Director Homi Adajania handles the cocktail' of human relationships pretty well. Watch out for the scene on the hill, just before the interval, when Gautham begins to realize that he's slowly falling in love with Meera. And when Veronica tries to impress Gautham by trying to be like Meera.

The second half though, pales in comparison. It suffers from being predictable and slow. Fortunately though, the actors make up for it Saif Ali Khan is fantastic as Gautham with perfect comic timing and flair. As for Deepika, her performance looks pretty natural on-screen. It's a character that required her to shed all her inhibitions, much like Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture'.. In short, a difficult role and she delivers!

Finally, the surprise package Diana Penty. Given a character that is quite easy to fall in love with, Diana adds her own charm to deliver what is easily the most-lovable performance of the year. Oh and she looks absolutely beautiful.

Daru Desi and Tumhi Ho Bandhu two of my favorite tracks in the film are beautifully picturized and choreographed, with the later shot on the picturesque beaches of Cape Town, South Africa.

Overall, Cocktail is a fun watch, with great music, humour and fabulous performances. The target audience is the urban youth, as the film has very little to offer for the mass' single-screen audience.

Go for it, if not for anything else.. then for Diana Penty. She is well worth the price of your ticket!

Ek Tha Tiger Music Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

The music review of Ek Tha Tiger, the most anticipated music album of the year. Now there are many factors that have raised the expectations exponentially.

Last 3 movies of Salman Khan (Bodyguard, Ready and Dabangg) had chartbuster music with some fantastic songs.
Salman, for the first time, is working under the YashRaj banner, which is known for its music
Sohail Sen's Mere Brother Ki Dulhan had some impressive numbers.
Finally, Kabir Khan's last directorial venture New York' had excellent music.

So it goes without saying that Ek Tha Tiger's music has to live upto high-expectations. Let's review the music

Mashallah (3/5): The Ek Tha Tiger album opens with Mashalla sung by Wajid and Shreya Ghoshal. The video of the song is already on air and has managed to create a stir. It is superbly picturized and choreographed. The song has an Arabic feel to it and Salman's favorite Sajid-Wajid have done full justice to the song as guest composers.

Laapata (3/5): The romantic track Laapata' is sung by K.K. and Shreya Ghoshal. The starting tune reminds you of the Dance Theme music of Aamir Khan's Mann (1999). Lyrics by Neelesh Mishra goes well with the track composition.

Banjaara (3/5): Expectations are huge from this song as Sukhwinder-Salman combo resulted in Hud Hud Dabangg last time. There is nothing wrong that Sukhwinder has done and he has given his best to the song. Just that the expectations are way too high. Average lyrics.

Saiyaara (4.5/5): Easily the best song of Ek Tha Tiger, Saiyaara is beautifully sung by Mohit Chauhan, the song grows on you and forces you to click the replay button. It's the first time that Chauhan is singing for Salman and he has left a lasting impresion. Female vocals by Tarannum Malika are perfectly suited. Lyrics by Neelesh Mishra are quite meaningful and you tend to search for the meaning of some of hte words. Saiyaara' is an urdu word which means "Planet". Song is very well composed by Sohail Sen. It has to be his best composition so far. Simply Mind Blowing.

Tiger's Theme (4/5): The theme music is similar to what is repeatedly played in the teaser and several trailers. It somewhat reminds you of the James Bond theme music and does not disappoint.

Remixes : To complete the album we have the club remixes of Mashallah, Laapata and Banjaara. First two are fast-paced whereas the Banjaara Remix is sung by Jolly and has some fast beats to attract DJs.

Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif Ek Tha Tiger Music Review

So does it meet expectations? Well, let's sum up the positives and negatives

Positives:
The songs sound original and do not have any hangover of south hit songs or any other composition.
We have seen Salman in almost all kind of songs but the Ek Tha Tiger songs are fresh and a nice break from his usual Dhinka Chika's.
Songs are picturized on the top male and top female actors of the country, under a production house known for excellent production values. So no doubt the visuals will rock big time.
As they say, 3 logon ko life mein kabhi underestimate mat karna : Salman Khan,Aditya Chopra and Katrina Kaif. Songs might be lacking the massy punch but the quality factor is there in each and every composition and let's hope they go well with the movie.

Negatives:
A very popular saying goes like, "Contentment is destroyed by Comparison".
If we compare this album with Khan's last 3 albums then we will expect some evergreen numbers like Tere Mast Mast Do Nain' or Teri Meri Prem Kahani'.
Also we are looking for some rocking item numbers like Munni Badnaam', Character Dheela', Dhinka Chika' or Bodyguard', which are not there.

My Verdict:

Some of the tracks are impressive and visuals will be great to say the least. Hold your breath, the Ek Tha Tiger tsunami hits screens this Independence day.

Gattu Review by Subhash K Jha - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Films with children as the main characters are no longer a rarity. Thank god for that! It's imperative that our cinema cultivate a culture of entertainment that children can empathize with without the content becoming overpowering in its message-mongering motivations.

"Gattu" is a delicately-threaded morality tale about a poor little boy, never sorry for himself except when play-acting the role of the bereft waif to get his way, who is taken in by his uncle (Naresh Kumar, brilliantly in character).

Now here's where the subtle often slyly humorous film gets tangled. It tells us that contrary to stereotypical expectations the uncle is no slave-driving villain. He has his good and bad moments with the kid.

Gattu tells us there are no black and white zones to bring up underprivileged children. While child labour is prohibited, it can also be a way of providing sustenance for homeless kids. While Gattu longs for a school education, he uses the academic premise to hoodwink the students and teachers to implement his own devious plans.

While on the surface "Gattu" is a breezy blithe and effervescent look-see at the pangs and pin-pricks of growing-up at the grassroots, under the surface it ponders sensibly on the question of raising a poor child with dignity outside the rarefied precincts of a school.

All the kids, specially Mohammad Samad in the title role, are delightful in their natural ability to own the camera space.

Director Rajan Khosa enters the world of innocence with devious intent. He penetrates the surface of juvenile guilelessness to explore the cunning that often underlines the machinations of the the very young.

Gattu portrays heart-warming moments within and outside the school premise. While making a fervent pitch for every child to attend school, the narrative never misses out on a chance for a bit of fun on the fringes.

"Gattu" is an endearing peep into a child's life as he struggles with intuitive intelligence to bring together the two incompatible worlds of poverty and the solace of schooling.

Mohammad Samad as the boy who who would fly higher than a kite is a prized find.

Sandesh Shandilya's ebullient songs and music brings its own spot of sunshine in this not-to-be-missed tale about coming of age.

"Gattu" carries forward the recent trend of sensible, intelligent funny and moving films about child protagonists, namely "Taare Zameen Par", "I Am Kalam" and "Stanley Ka Dabba". Add one more film to that luminous list of cinema on little wonders.

The Dark Knight Rises Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Once in every few years, a film's expectation reaches fever pitch. Yet, only a handful ever have lived up to it. The last of the "Batman Trilogy", to the delight of fans, does. That it does so, while continuing on the same themes it addressed before, is a feather hardly any film franchisee has claimed.

Seven years since Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) retired as Batman, a new villain Bane (Tom Hardy) threatens not only Gotham's peace, but its very existence. When the entire city is taken hostage by Bane's men and the police are locked up, Batman must return, and fight an impossible resistance with a handful others.

The least one expects from a very popular, self-professed end of a series film is a grand scale. Most commercial cinema merely increases the effects and physical action. While Nolan indeed delivers on these, he goes beyond.

A bank or even a building being held hostage is well-known in cinema. Did you ever imagine an entire city held hostage for months? Like in the second part of the series, Nolan then asks the question: Would normal citizens rise up to become heroes?

Yet, morally and metaphorically, The Dark Knight' was stronger. There he asked the same question, but to individual citizens and in the climax on the two boats, to an opposite group of people. There, Batman wins because people in the two boats beat their instinct for self survival by refusing to kill the others for their own sake. In that scene, everyone becomes a superhero. Everyone becomes Batman.

That edginess of script, that triumph of true courage, is missing in this part. It compensates by rising on other counts.

The Nolan brothers (Christopher and Jonathan) know how to intermix a grim story of power, corruption, control and heroism with a spectacular razzle-dazzle. In a very powerful screenplay, the brothers bring attention to the corruption, the power structures and the chaos of the affluent class.

And the brothers, in creating villains that are alter-egos of Batman, and in often giving them ideals as high as him but in the end showing these anarchist villains failing, perhaps makes the greatest joke, the greatest metaphor on the state of the world today.

Perhaps the hidden, dark message is that no matter how much one resists be it Batman or his villains a corrupt power structure and affluence will survive. The brothers perhaps want to say that resistance, eventually, proves futile. Perhaps they want to say the opposite, that good and bad, light and darkness and falling and rising take turns and that no matter what, one has to resist.

Nolan is a man in absolute control of his craft. You'll be hard pressed to find a man with such ability to interplay sound and visuals to create a three-dimensional vision in your head.

Hans Zimmer assists him with superlative yet gentle and sombre background score, while as expected, the special effects division delivers the wares without going overboard.

Nolan carries forward the themes from the previous two films fear, death, anger, corruption, heroism and chaos, and rounds them up into a perfect whole.

In the end though, the true hero that rises from this series is Christopher Nolan. In the wasteland of commercial Hollywood cinema, he is the best thing that has happened in a long time. May his clan increase everywhere.

Kya Super Kool Hain Hum Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Kya Super Kool Hai Hum is the sequel to one of 2005′s biggest hits. The male actors – Riteish Deshmukh and Tushhar Kapoor – have been retained, while two fresh female faces – Sarah Jane Dias and Neha Sharma – replace Isha Koppikar and Neha Dhupia.

Sachin Yardi, the writer of the first film, takes over the directorial reigns from Sangeeth Sivan.

Story: The film is about two crazy men. Adi (Tusshar Kapoor), a struggling actor and Sid, a struggling DJ. While Adi is desperate to sign a Rohit Shetty film, Sid earns a living by mating his pet-dog Fakhru.

Adi then approaches an astrologer, who predicts that his fortune would turn around when he meets a girl whose name starts from 'S'. Soon, he bumps into Simran (Neha Sharma). 400 odd calls later, he convinces her for a dinner date and proposes marriage. In disbelief, she rejects saying she's a lesbian.

Sid falls for Simran's friend Anu (Sarah Jane Dias) and both land up in Goa.

Kya Super Kool Hai Hum Review

Kya Super Kool Hain Hum is full of double-meaning sex jokes that most of us receive on our phones. While some of them are funny, some aren't, but most of them you've heard before. That pretty much sums up Kya Super Kool Hain Hum – some of the jokes work, some don't and most of them are old and boring – especially the offensive utterly insensitive gay gags.

Still, a couple of scenes work mainly due to Riteish Deshmukh, who is a natural on-screen. Blessed with charisma and fantastic comic timing, Riteish is the only saving grace of Kya Super Kool Hain Hum.

Now, we all know Tusshar Kapoor can't act. He looks awkward, uncomfortable and never gets one expression right. Not really trying to be harsh on him, but he simply doesn't have it in him as an actor. He should stick to Golmaal films and try his hand at something that he is probably more talented at. Oh and his John Abraham Dostana-act should be removed as soon as possible – one of the several cringe-worthy moments in the film.

Neha Sharma looks pretty and acts well, Sarah Jane Dias doesn't get her dialogue delivery right. Anupam Kher makes a caricature of himself on-screen and so does Chunky Pandey.

The songs are catchy, but the placement is poor. Hum Toh Hain Cappuccino – UP Bihar Lootne – is easily the best of the lot.

Overall, Kya Super Kool Hain Hum has a decent first half where some gags work and a boring second. With funnier jokes and a better actor to compliment Riteish, the film would've worked better!

Jism 2 Movie Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

We apologize for the delay in publishing the Jism 2 Review, we had some technical issues since morning.

Directed by Pooja Bhatt, Jism 2 is the sequel to the 2003 hit Jism starring Bipasha Basu and John Abraham. The first film was easily one of the most sensual films of it's time and this time around, with Canadian porn star Sunny Leone as the major-attraction, the makers promise a double doze of erotica.

Story: Jism 2 is about Izna (Sunny Leone), a prostitute by profession. One night, she sleeps with Ayaan (Arunoday Singh), an intelligence officer, who convinces Izna to help nab her ex-lover Kabir (Randeep Hooda). They travel all the way to Sri Lanka to get hold of the secret data, that helps Kabir kill several prominent politicians and other security officials.

Jism 2 Review

Jism 2 Review

Most of you would be wondering If Jism 2 is one of the most erotic films to come out of Bollywood and if Sunny Leone, on debut, delivers as an actress?

Well, apart from the fact that it stars an adult actress, Jism 2 wouldn't be considered bold' even if it released early last decade. Infact, the 2004 blockbuster Murder' was far more erotic and sexier. If titillation is sole reason for watching Jism 2, don't bother. Apart from a few aesthetically shot love-making scenes and Leone's cleavage revealing act, the film has little else to offer.

The pace is agonisingly slow. The story is non-existent and hardly ever moves. If you decide to watch the first 20 minutes, take a nap and watch the climax, you wouldn't miss much nothing at all actually, apart from a few beautiful songs and the stunning scenery of Sri Lanka.

As for Sunny Leone, she looks sexy and beautiful, but has a long way to go as an actress. It was a complex role to play throughout the film Sunny's character required her to pretend to be in love with someone else, while her real intentions were different.

Jism 2 Review

I have loved Randeep Hooda's performances in some of his recent releases like Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and Jannat 2, but here he's good initially but hams in the second half, when his character suddenly goes psychotic. Arunoday Singh can't act. When he was crying, the audience were laughing!

Also, several questions remain unanswered (spoiler warning). When exactly does Arunoday's character fall in love with Sunny? Why does Randeep Hooda reveal his true identity so late? Why does Sunny believe Arunoday blindly? Who does she love?

Sunny's character is flawed and confused. Since she keeps kissing both men, the audience is left confused too. The climax doesn't work primarily for this reason you don't feel for any of the characters in the film.

Overall, Jism 2 has very little to offer apart from a bikini-clad Sunny Leone, couple of good songs and the seductive beaches and greenery of Sri Lanka. At the box-office, Jism 2 should do well in the first weekend and then drop from Monday.

Gangs of Wasseypur 2 Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Subhash K Jha reviews Gangs of Wasseypur 2

If you try to count the numbers of bullets that are fired at unsuspecting victims in the ferociously violent world inhabited by Anurag Kashyap's trigger-happy goons, you might end up cross-eyed. Caught in the crossfire of vendetta and redemption, the characters of "Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2″ are so on-the-edge, they don't fear the abyss that awaits them at the end of their vengeful voyage.

In any case, no one in Kashyap's god-forsaken kingdom takes cops seriously, not even the cops themselves. There's a typically wry Kashyap joke just before interval when the raging protagonist Faizal (or 'Faijal', as everyone including his sexy wife calls him), carries his kid-brother's corpse home. Cops stop Faizal and politely ask him to accompany them to the police station.

"Don't you see I'm taking my brother home," Faizal bellows.

"We understand," squeaks a khaki-clad gentleman. "Why don't you hand over the body to us and come with us?"

This, if you are familiar with the language of commercial Hindi cinema, is in character with the image of the filmy police force.

It always arrives late. Or untimely. Kashyap crams in-house jokes into every nook and cranny of this diligently-constructed breathtaking ode to the culture of street violence. The gang wars are so real that they are unreal. Does that make sense? It had better! That so-real-that-it's-unreal tempestuous twilight zone is where Kashyap's film belongs.

The violence of the politically corroded north Indian town (Wasseypur, or what you will) is exaggerated to a point of utter outrageousness. In Kashyap's version of the Wild West, you could get killed on the spot for anything, for asking the time or raping your neighbour's sister. The price for any crime, petty or grave, is the same.

The ceaseless shower of bullets gets a hand-up on the visceral soundtrack from Sneha Khanwalkar's excruciatingly evocative folk songs of Bihar (some of which are used in two versions, ironical or poignant, but always intensely definitive) and with excellent use of the puerile film songs of the 1980s, which used to be out on the T-Series label back then when music piracy was as rampant as political hooliganism.

Even when the epic narration moves into the 2000 millennium, the characters are stuck in the 1980s. A whole thesis can be written on the interesting caller tunes from the 1980s and 1990s used by the characters in their mobile phone. And yes, there is Yashpal Sharma, the resident stage singer of Wasseypur crooning a 1980s song for every occasion.

While the funeral of two of the key characters is on Yashpal's earnest attempt at musical expression, soars into "Yaad teri aayegi mujhko bada sataayegi" and "Teri meherbaniyan" tracks, they seem to unintentionally mock the solemnity of the occasion. The latter was actually sung in the film at the death of a canine.

The ceaseless violence is quite often savagely funny. The series of miscommunication and misinformation among the assassins when Sultan Qureshi (Pankaj Tripathi) is to be gunned down in a crowded market, is straight out of comic-action films from the 1980s.

When Kashyap is not paying tongue-in-cheek tributes to an era from Hindi cinema that seems to repeatedly define the lives of the film's characters, he is busy taking digs at his own brilliantly crafted homage to gangsterism.

In one sequence, an assassin asks his intended victim the address on a visiting card.

"No, this is Dhanbad. The address you want is in Varanasi," says the helpful man before he's gunned down in the crowded bazaar.

For the record, the "Gangs Of Wasseypur" marathon is located in the Dhanbad belt, but had to be shot in Varanasi.

There are funny scenes of violence, tragic scenes of violence and tragi-comic scenes of violence. But violence, let us reiterate, is a constant in the lives of the characters as they stumble, fall, attack, kill or get killed in this blood-soaked bullet-ridden saga of gangsterism which makes director Francis Ford Coppola's Sicily look like a holiday resort.

More fast-paced, furious, frenzied and frenetic than the first part, "Gangs Of Wasseypur – Part 2″ confidently occupies that semi-feverish space where dream, nightmare and reality play a savage hide and seek with your sensibilities. The performances are tactile and dramatic.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the ganja-zonked protagonist delivers the deadliest performance in Kashyap's gang as the most swaggering mercurial gangster on this side of James Caan in "The Godfather". Richa Chadda as his mother portrays the simmering intensity of a passion whose flames won't die down with old age. During a family wedding when Chadda, while singing a wedding song breaks down and then regains her composure, she proves she's no ordinary actress.

We are in the midst of some extraordinary talent here. Let's not undermine Huma Qureshi's saucy turn as the love of Nawazuddin's constantly-endangered life, just because she's hot and glamorous. Huma scorches up the screen with her casual vibrancy.

There are as many remarkable actors in this film as there are corpses scattered with scary casualness all across the lengthy saga. Mention must be made of young Aditya Kumar as Faizal's kid-brother Perpendicular, who uses razor blades for everything except shaving, and Zeishan Quadri (the absolutely amazing co-writer of this saga) as Definite, Faizal's half-brother. He looks ordinary. He is dangerous.

Interesting parallels are drawn in the relationship between the half-brothers Faizal and Definite in this film and Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor playing half-brothers in Yash Chopra's "Trishul".

These are filmy people who choose to replace the ketchup in the action films of the 1980s with real blood. But their emotional ties seem to hinge precariously on the logistics of commercial mainstream cinema.

At the end of the first "Wasseypur" whammer, Manoj Bajpayee's character was showered with bullets. At the end of the second and concluding part of the blood-fest, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is gunned down mercilessly by the people whom he depends on.

When you live by the gun, you die by the gun. Unless Anurag Kashyap decides to bring you back to life. Then you are in serious trouble.

Ek Tha Tiger Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

It's undoubtedly the biggest release of the year. The craze prior to release, the mad-rush for tickets, with theatres overcrowded with people is something that we have never witnessed for any film before. The very fact that Salman Khan, the biggest box-office draw in India today, is teaming up with Katrina Kaif (who has a massive following of her own) and Yashraj Films, is the reason behind all the hype and excitement.

But what about the film's content? Salman's last two films, have set the box-office on fire, but quality-wise it's been disappointing. Prior to release, director Kabir Khan promised a film that will go way beyond the initial weekend content will take the film a long way' he said at a press conference.

Is Ek Tha Tiger worth a watch? Ek Tha Tiger Review below..

Story: Ek Tha Tiger is about a Indian RAW Agent codenamed Tiger (Salman Khan). He is on a mission to track down a professor, who is suspected of selling secret missile technology to Pakistan. Here, Tiger falls in love for the first time, with a beautiful young girl Zoya (Katrina Kaif). What happens next? Is it all about love for Tiger or will he fulfil the task on hand? Watch Ek Tha Tiger to find out.

Ek Tha Tiger Review

What works for Ek Tha Tiger
The film starts off very well, Salman's introduction scene is something to watch out for. Director Kabir Khan has handled the love story beautifully, the moments that Zoya and Tiger share their chemistry, innocence and banter is a treat to watch.
The action sequences are brilliantly shot. The first one on the train, while a bit over-the-top, works purely because of Salman Khan. There are plenty of chase sequences which finally culminates in the climax, where Salman jumps straight from a bike onto a plane! It's the same old stuff though, every bullet that Tiger fires hits the target. The villains, unfortunately, left their contact-lenses back at home.
The USP of the film is undoubtedly Salman Khan. Ek Tha Tiger is a celebration of Khan's charisma and sheer larger-than-life presence. It's also his best performance since Dabangg. He is in every frame from start to finish and does well in both action and romantic scenes.
Katrina Kaif is gorgeous. What do we say? It's hard to take your eyes off her. Her expressions are slightly blankish' in the second half, but overall she does well. Her costumes are beautiful and she carries them off with grace and elegance. Don't miss the Mashallah' song during the closing credits.
The music (Sohail Sen, Sajid-Wajid) is good Saaiyaara, Laapata, Banjaara are all beautifully picturised. The cinematography is fantastic (Aseem Mishra).

What doesn't work for Ek Tha Tiger (Negatives)
No logic behind the storyline or scenes: Your left with a lot of unanswered questions towards the end of the film (possible spoilers, don't read if you haven't watched the film) why does the RAW suddenly decide to help Tiger towards the end? What is Zoya really after? Why is the ISI so casual and ever-so-forgiving towards her? The professor's character is shut out completely after the first half. The script has a lot of loop-holes and the twists and turns don't work.
Even though the runtime is short (134 minutes), the pace is sluggish in the second half. The plot is stretched way too long there is nothing in the second half apart from chase sequences, with Zoya and Tiger always on the run.

Overall, Ek Tha Tiger is for Salman Khan fans. It has good music, lovely chemistry between the lead couple, mass-pleasing action sequences and they squeeze in a topless scene for Salman too.

As for the rest, it's neither a intelligent film nor does it provide the necessary thrill'. The story, eventually, turned out to be the biggest disappointment.

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

When the first trailer of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi' was released, the response was fantastic and I loved it too. A mature romantic comedy featuring a supremely talented actor, Boman Irani.

But it's the presence of Farah Khan as the female lead, that instantly makes you curious. The lady has a fantastic sense-of-humor and I have enjoyed watching her on Koffee with Karan. But a full-fledged role, paired opposite a veteran like Boman? The fact that she agreed to do the film at the cost of making a fool out of herself on-screen is a testament to the confidence she has in herself.

Does it work? Read on to find to.

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi Review

Story: 45-year-old Farhad (Boman Irani) is a ladies innerwear salesman. He's shy, uncomfortable with women.. but quite desperate to get married. One day at this shop, he meets Shirin (Farah Khan), who works at a Parsi trust. The two get along well and their friendship soon turns into love. The only problem? Farhad's mother hates Shirin!

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi Review

Bela Sehgal (sister of Sanjay Leela Bhansali) manages to impress on her directorial debut, the film has several heart-warming moments and is refreshingly different from the picture-perfect love stories that we are used to watching on the big screen.

Everyone is perfectly cast, infact Farah Khan as Shirin is a casting master-stroke. Both the lead actors look cute together, compliment each other well, and their chemistry is fantastic. It's nice to see Shammi in a film after a long time, she plays Farhad's grandmother. Daisy Irani is very good. Kurush Deboo, who impressed in Munnabhai MBBS, has a small role.

The down-side to the film is it's storyline (a thin plot, that's stretched far too long) and the forced comedy. The longish scenes with the Parsi community quarrelling with each other were unnecessary. Also, why Farhad doesn't clear the misunderstanding between his mother and Shirin, is something that's difficult to understand.

The best song in the album is the title song. The rest don't go too well with the film.

Overall, Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi doesn't have a very convincing storyline, nor is the love story very touching. But the actors, especially Boman Irani, make it a fun one-time watch.

At the box-office, the film will rely almost entirely on word-of-mouth publicity.

Joker Movie Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

The promos were dull, Akshay Kumar disowned the film and there was no hype prior to it's release. But, amidst all the negativity surrounding Joker, I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Director Shirish Kunder's last film Jaan-e-mann didn't work at the boxoffice, but the movie had it's share of fans.

Does Joker work? Read on..

Joker Review

Story: During Independence, when the map of India was re-drawn, a small village called Paglapur didn't find a place on the map. Inmates of a mental asylum broke loose, formed their own village and aptly named it Paglapur. Fast forward to the current decade and absolutely nothing has changed the village still has no electricity or water and the villagers are still act like madmen.

Enter Agastya (Akshay Kumar) with his pretty girlfriend Diva (Sonakshi Sinha). He is working on a device to communicate with the aliens! When Agastya finds out that his father, who lives in Paglapur is seriously ill, he abandons his work and returns. How he transforms the village forms the rest of the tale.

Joker Review

Always felt Joker could either spring a huge surprise or fall flat. Unfortunately, it's the later. From start to finish, absolutely nothing works for the film. You fail to understand what the director was thinking?!

In an attempt to try something unconventional director Shirish Kunder seems to be inspired by several classics. Akshay Kumar's character reminds you of Shahrukh Khan in Swades', the gibberish speaking Shreyas Talpade tries to pull off a Tusshar Kapoor act from Golmaal' and the costumes are inspired by Lagaan'.

Joker is devoid of any sense or logic. Agastya manages to fool the best of scientists on the UFO landing in their village, only to have his fool-proof plan busted in 10 seconds by one of his enemies. The armed forces land up to capture/kill the aliens, but why do they stand outside the forest when the aliens are hiding inside?

The actors look disinterested, especially Akshay Kumar who has always delivered spirited performances, even in some of his worst films. Sonakshi Sinha has very little to do. Shreyas Talpade is good. Asrani is okay. Minissha Lamba has a special appearance. The rest of the characters ham endlessly.

At a runtime of 1 hour 45 minutes, Joker is one of the shortest mainstream films to come out of Bollywood. Still, Kunder has managed to squeeze in 4-5 songs including an item number by Chitrangada Singh!

Overall, it's a joke' on the audience courtesy Shirish Kunder. You'd be better off not being the Joker'. Stay away.

Raaz 3 Movie Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

For the Bhatt's the formula for success is simple sequel to a hit franchise, good music and sexual content. The presence of Emraan Hashmi is an added bonus at the box-office. Each film that stuck to this formula has done well Jannat 2, Jism 2, Murder 2.. the only film that didn't was Raaz 2.

For the third instalment, Vikram Bhatt, who directed the first film, returns with bankable stars like Emraan Hashmi and Bipasha Basu. Can they recreate the magic of Raaz?

Story: Raaz 3 is about the evil Shanaya (Bipasha Basu), who is a superstar. Her dominance ends when a younger star Sanjana (Esha Gupta) makes it big, takes the awards and gets to best of roles. Shanaya then explores her darker side and takes up black magic to ruin Sanjaya. She also uses her boyfriend Aditya (Emraan Hashmi), who later falls for Sanjana.

Raaz 3 Review

In terms of production value and scale, Raaz 3 is easily the most ambitious film produced under the Vishesh Films banner. I'd also recommend you watch the film in 3D as it significantly enhances the impact.

Raaz 3 starts well, the director wastes no time and quickly establishes the plot and the characters. The first half has some thrilling moments and Vikram Bhatt's who specialises in directing horror films, has complete control over proceedings.

The second half though, fails to match up. The screeches get too loud, Esha Gupta goes insane and there are way too many loop holes in the script.

Raaz 3 has an abundance of sleaze on offer and provides enough titillation to ensure the masses walk out happy. Emraan Hashmi has love-making scenes with both Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta. The music disappoints big-time.

Bipasha Basu gets everything right her expressions, look, body language and dialogue delivery is spot on. She is the star of Raaz 3. Emraan Hashmi sleep walks through his role, he's done this several times before. Esha Gupta is strictly okay. Manish Choudhary is very good.

Overall, Raaz 3 is one of the better films to come out of the Bhatt camp in recent times. Way better than Jism 2, which released recently. At the box office, business should be best at mass centres. The 3D version will ensure good returns from multiplexes.

Barfi Movie Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Director Anurag Basu (Life in a.. metro, Gangster) returns after Kites, an ambitious film that didn't work due to it's excess usage of Spanish. His latest, Barfi starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz, is a cheerfully unconventional film.

Story: The film is about Murphy (Ranbir), who is lovingly called Barfi. He falls in love at first sight with Shruthi (Ileana D'Cruz) and expresses his feelings, even though he cannot hear or speak. Shurthi is engaged to her college sweetheart, but soon shares a warm friendship with Barfi that slowly turns into love. Their cute love story is cut short, when Shruthi's mother convinces her to marry the man she is engaged to, as Barfi is deaf and mute.

The film has a second love angle between Barfi and Jhilmil (Priyanka), who is autistic. While her parents find it difficult to handle her, she gets along well with Barfi.

Barfi Review

What works for Barfi
The performances: For a film with very few dialogues, Barfi relies almost entirely on it's actors. Ranbir Kapoor is absolutely brilliant. He slips into the skin of his character and brings it to life all without a single dialogue. His charisma, smile, facial expressions work big time. Undoubtedly one of the best performances of the year so far. As for Priyanka, in one of the toughest roles of her career, she delivers a stellar performance. Never for a second do you realize it's her a huge compliment for any actor. Ileana D'Cruz makes a confident debut, apart from her crooked teeth she looks lovely on-screen. Ranbir's mannerisms deserves a special mention here everything from the way he combs his hair, carries his weird hairstyle and even the way he rides his cycle make for a fun watch.
The fantastic moments: Again, for a silent film, Barfi has some genuinely funny and heart-warming moments that ensures the first half is high on entertainment value. Watch out for the scenes, where Ranbir tries to woo Ileana, his antics make you instantly fall in love with his character. And also the innocent moments between Ranbir and Priyanka in the second. Well written, skilfully directed and brilliantly performed.
Almost everything else: The background score is top-notch and so is the cinematography. Darjeeling has been beautifully captured on-screen. Pritam's melodious music goes well with the film.

What doesn't work

The last 20-30 minutes: A simple love story is made way too complicated in the end as the story suddenly has everything in it - murder, kidnapping, love-triangle, flashbacks, confusion.. you name it. The film is far from realistic, yet, the cinematic liberties that Basu has taken in the second half, to include the various twists and turns, are a little too hard to digest.
Slow paced: It's a film that needs to be watched with a bit of patience.

Audience reaction: During intermission, the film got a stand-ovation. Yes, the first half was that good. Towards the end of the film though, quite a few people were seen leaving even before the credits rolled.

Overall, Barfi has a fabulously entertaining first half, with standout performances by the lead stars. Do watch it, preferably in theatre.

Rating:

Box office: Has opened to a fantastic response at multiplexes. With strong word-of-mouth, Barfi should put up some big numbers in the first week.

English Vinglish Music Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Evergreen beauty Sridevi is returning to the silver screen after a hiatus of 15 years with "English Vinglish". Its soundtrack covers six tracks, created by new-age master composer Amit Trivedi, with lyrics penned by Swanand Kirkire.

The album kicks off with the title track "English vinglish", a peppy and energetic track to start off the day and fight challenges in life. Sunita Rao's vocals blend quite well with Trivedi's, and the number definitely elevates the spirit. The lyrics, in true Hinglish style, don't seem vague and have been penned with an aesthetic approach by Kirkire. There's good use of instruments like violin fused with contemporary sounds.

The track also has a male version where Trivedi takes centrestage. Musically it isn't too different, but the magic of the singer's voice strikes the right chords and charms the listener all the way.

It is followed by "Dhak dhuk", a folksy and soft number which deals with the anxieties of a young bride leaving for another country. Trivedi is brilliant behind the mike in this one, with his soulful rendition. This gloomy composition grows on the listener. The use of flute in the song to good effect is especially plausible, and Kirkire has penned lyrics, which tug right at the heartstrings.

Next up on the playlist is "Manhattan". Dialogues by Sridevi, envisioning the hustle bustle of a US city, welcome the listener in this track. It starts on a high note full of energy but fails to create an impact. Clinton Cerejo is average in the vocal department, but the surprise package is Bianca Gomes who impresses with her voice. Some good techno sounds here and there with the flute are nice on the ear, but the track still falls short of expectations.

"Gustakh dil" brings back the duo of Trivedi and Rao together and their voices really do wonders. Such perfect sync is a rarity and this might well be one of the best duets this year in Bollywood. The track uses minimal sounds and focusses on the singers' talent, bringing the best out of them. It has bit of a rock touch to it. Kudos also to Kirkire for doing justice to the song with his beautiful words.

Rounding up the album is "Navraj majhi", crooned by an ensemble of singers including Sunidhi Chauhan, Swanand Kirkire, Natalie Di Luccio and Neelambari Kirkire. The song captures the essence of a traditional Marathi wedding. Sunidhi is good on the vocals while Natalie D'Luccio and Trivedi enjoin a modern flavour to this folk track. The lyricist and his mother, Neelambari Kirkire, also join the celebration. It's fun all the way.

Although the "English Vinglish" album lacks the lustre of new age Bollywood albums, it manages to leave the listener smiling with its simple approach. There are no remixes and nothing out-of-the-box here, but it delights.

Heroine Review - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

After Barfi last week, UTV Motion Pictures today released their second keenly awaited film Madhur Bhandarkars Heroine starring Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda.

Story: Heroine is about Mahi Arora (Kareena), a successful Bollywood actress, whose position in the industry is under constant threat with rival actresses and newcomers. Mahi is madly in love with married superstar Aryan Khanna (Arjun), who is on the verge of a divorce with his wife Isha (Shilpi Sharma). Mahi is insecure about her relationship, as Aryan is unwilling to commit marriage. When Aryan agrees to do a love-making scene in one of his films, without Mahis consent, the two breakup.

Enter publicist Pallavi (Divya Dutta), who approaches Mahi with a proposal to change her image and build her brand. Pallavi does her job and Mahi is back in news and her falling career revives once again. She starts dating Angad (Randeep Hooda), vice captain of the Indian Cricket team. He helps her get a role in a film with superstar Abbas Khan (Sanjay Suri). Career-wise things go from bad to worse, even though her film does well at the box-office, as Abbas Khan shortens her role in the film. Critics call her a glam-doll, a non-actress. What does Mahi do next? How does she survive alcohol addiction, the constant threat to her position in the industry and most importantly how does she battle her own insecurities?

Heroine Review

For a film that promises an insiders take on the Bollywood film industry, Heroine promises to be a fine film initially, but falls flat when Bhandarkar takes the dark and depressing route. Apart from a few scenes just before the interval when Mahis career begins to revive and her relationship with Angad blossoms, Heroine as a whole remains terribly depressing.

Strangely, the film has way too many similarities to Madhur Bhandarkars Fashion. Gay designers and journalists (with typical mannerisms), excessive smoking/drinking, sexual politics, back-biting, bitching.. you name it and Heroine has got it all. What worked for Fashion was the inspiring rise of Meghna Mathur, here Madhur completely neglects to shed any light on Mahis past.

Heroine drags to an extent when you stop caring for the protagonist. Madhur has tried to squeeze too much into the film, probably every incident that he has ever heard of.

Now before the review gets depressing, lets talk of the positives. Kareena Kapoor delivers a stellar performance rising way above the mediocre script. She lives the character of Mahi Arora. (spoilers ahead) Watch out for the scene at the brothel, where she goes to study the lives of prostitutes, in an effort get into the skin of her character. The funeral scene in the climax. And also her mental anguish when she releases her own sex tapes and battles guilt. Outstanding performance from one of the best leading ladies of our times. Also she looks at her sexiest best in Manish Malhotras costumes. At the age of 32, she is still one of the hottest stars in the industry. Having said that, she exposes as much or a little more than Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture. Did her character really demand the constant in-our-face cleavage show?

The others have very little to do Arjun Rampal is good, Randeep Hooda overacts in one scene when he confronts Kareena, apart from that hes done well. Sanjay Suri is fine. Ranvir Shorey is brilliant. Govind Namdeo is good. Shahana Goswami has a small role and leaves a mark.

The music is good, Halkat Jawani will be loved by the masses. Camera work (Mahesh Limaye) is excellent. Salim-Sulaimans background music is good. The editing

Overall, Heroine is one of the biggest disappointments of 2012. The expectations were high from Madhur and he fails to deliver this time around. His movies are getting repetitive and stereotypical. Having said that, Kareena Kapoor is the star of Heroine and she certainly deserved a better film to showcase her acting talent. Infact, its her performance that makes the film bearable.

Rating: Watch if you must for Kareena, otherwise avoidable.

Do post your Heroine reviews below. Wed love to know what you think!

Ajay Devgan, and not Salman, is the remake / sequel specialist - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Film critic and trade analyst Joginder Tuteja discusses the upcoming movies of Ajay Devgan in 2012 – 2013 and why he's soon turning in to a remake / sequel specialist.

Ever since Prakash Jha announced that Ajay Devgan would be featuring in the sequel of 'Gangaajal', there has been a lot of buzz in the industry. Reason being an interesting trend that has emerged as per which Ajay Devgan is fast turning out to be a remake and sequel specialist. While the general belief is that Salman Khan is the one featuring in one remake/sequel after another, it is clear that Ajay Devgan is actually leading the pack. His 'Bol Bachchan' was a remake of (old) 'Gol Maal'. His first release in 2012, 'Tezz' was an unofficial remake of 'The Bullet Train'. Even last year's 'Singham' was adapted from its namesake Tamil film.

The trend is only continuing with his upcoming release 'Son of Sardaar', an official remake of Telugu flick 'Maryada Ramanna'. This isn't all as he is currently shooting for Sajid Khan's 'Himmatwala' which is again a remake, though said to be re-modelled in a major way so as to come across as more of a homage than a scene-to-scene copy.

Though Ajay has dabbled with original subjects in the recent past, films like 'Rascals' have hardly added to his profile while 'Aakrosh' and 'Toonpur Ka Superhero' didn't pay any dividends. 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji' did bring in decent revenue, but it was 'Bol Bachchan' and 'Singham' that struck box office gold. With Bollywood following the new found 'mantra' of remakes and sequels ensuring good returns more often than not, Ajay is seemingly happy to lead the trend even as he waits for a few good original subjects to really motivate him into taking a plunge.

This means, other than Prakash Jha's 'Satyagraha' which is the only true blue original film, there are a spate of sequels in the offering. While the one leading the pack would be Jha's 'Gangaajal 2′, others in line are Rohit Shetty's 'Singham 2′ next year with talks about 'Golmaal 4′ on as well.

With Salman Khan (Dabangg 2, Kick), Akshay Kumar (Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, Boss), Aamir Khan (Dhoom 3), Hrithik Roshan (Krrish 3) boasting of being remakes/sequels too, the only actor whose next three films are all originals is Shahrukh Khan (Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Chennai Express, Happy New Year).

Guess it's about time SRK too joins the bandwagon sooner or later.

Which upcoming Ajay Devgan movie in 2012 – 2013 are you waiting for? You can pick TWO from the list. Vote below!
