Deepanker is officer (Commissioned) in Indian Army and another brother Manish is now established in Los Angeles. She completed her school from Shimla in Jesus and Mary Boarding School. From the school she was interested in sports and mostly she interested in Basketball. She completed degree in criminal psychology. But then she moved towards modeling. Preity met to Shekhar Kapur who is film maker. After audition, Shekhar wanted to gave her break into "Tara Rum Pum Pum" but she got first chance in the film "Dil Se" directed by Mani Ratnam.
