She is daughter of L.K.Dutta, retired Wing Commander and Mother, Jennifer Puddi (who is British). She has two sisters from that one is in Indian Air Force. In 1981, her family shifted toBangalore. She completed her whole education from Bangalore. Lara completed schooling from St.Francis Xavier Girl's High School and college from Bombay Universitywhich is at Bangalore. She took degree in Economics. She was winner of Miss Universe contest held in 2000. After winning this contest she was appointed as UNFPA GoodwillAmbassador in the year 2001. Lara firstly dated with famous model, Kelly Dorjee for a long time, but due to some reasons they got separated. She also dated with film actor Dino Morea who is close friend of Lara. Both of them are friends from last seventeen years. She won the competitions such as Miss Intercontinental in 1997, Femina Miss India in 2000 and Miss Universe in 2000.
