She is first daughter of famous actor Randhir Kapoor and actress Babita. She has a younger sister Kareena Kapoor who is also an actress. Her grandfather, Raj Kapoor was also great actor and director. Karishma did her first movie named as "Prem Quidi" released in 1991. Up to the 1996, most of her films were flopped on box office. During 1991- 1996 some of her hit films were Jigar released in 1992, Anaari in1993, Raja Baabu in 1994, Coolie No. 1 1995, Saajan Chale Sasural in 1996) and the film Jeet which released in 1996.
