Robbie Williams loves TV with TeddyRobbie Williams loves TV with Teddy

Robbie Williams experienced one of happiest moments' of his life : watching soccer on TV with his baby daughter.

The Candy' hitmaker : who recently became a father for the first time when wife Ayda Field gave birth to Theodora Teddy' Rose : is a hands-on dad who loves nothing more than settling down to watch his favourite sporting highlights programme with the little girl.

He is quoted by The Youthgossip.com as saying: The mum's doing the Mother Earth thing with the boobs and the breast-feeding so I change nappies and nurse Teddy watching Match Of The Day'.

Honestly, that was one of the most happiest moments of my life : me, baby and Match Of The Day'.

I do a good line in burping and I make sure to cradle her in my arms : it's very much Lion King stuff.'

As well as watching sport with two-month-old Teddy, Robbie recently revealed he likes rapping to her.

When asked what lullabies he sings to his daughter during a Twitter live chat with iTunes to celebrate the release of new album Take the Crown', Robbie, 38, responded: The Chronic, Dre Dre, Ain't Nothing but a G thang' cos nursery rhymes are boring (sic).'

The expletive filled Nuthin' but a G Thang' : which also has lyrics about smoking marijuana : was a hit for Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg in 1992, reaching number two on the US singles chart and peaking at number 31 in the UK charts.

Alicia Silverstone struggled with fame - Hollywood Gossips

Alicia Silverstone struggled with fameAlicia Silverstone struggled with fame

Alicia Silverstone wanted to become unfamous' as soon as she hit the big time.

The 36-year-old actress rose to fame after appearing in blockbuster movies including Clueless' and Batman and Robin' in the mid 90s, and found that she was unable to deal with being recognised and wanted to go back to the way she was before.

She said: It is hard to be famous when you are young, particularly if you did not have any plans. I wanted to become unfamous as fast as possible.'

However, Alicia admits her fame had benefits, though she does think she pushed herself too hard.

She added: I don't want to come across as a victim.

Fame brings money and I was able to buy a car at 18, a Ford Bronco, and buy a house a year later, which was a huge advantage. I did six movies back to back without a break which was a stupid thing to do.'

Playing rich girl Cher in Clueless' also left Alicia : who has 17-month-old son Bear Blu with husband Christopher Jarecki : feeling she knew little about life because of how street-wise the character was.

She told The Youthgossip.com : I also wish I'd had the strength to say how little I knew about life. Clueless' gave the impression I knew about fashion and sex : it was ridiculous because I didn't.'

Shia LaBeouf involved in pub fight - Hollywood Gossips

Shia LaBeouf involved in pub fightShia LaBeouf involved in pub fight

Shia Labeouf got into a fight in a bar : because someone stole his hat.

The 26-year-old actor was in good spirits and happily posed for pictures with fans at the Hobhoblin pub in New Cross, south London , but the mood turned sour when a fellow drinker jokingly' swiped his baseball cap and refused to give it back.

One onlooker said: No one could believe that a well-known Hollywood star had rocked up at a bar in dingy south London. Everyone was getting photos taken with him.

The row started when this guy took his hat. I think he was joking, but Shia didn't like it.

The guy just took it off him and wouldn't give it back. He tried to get it back and they ended up tussling.

It was handbags really. But it shows that even Hollywood stars can't avoid trouble down this way.'

Shia went to the pub with his Nymphomaniac' co-star Mia Goth, with the bar's landlord Mark Harris saying the pair were in the area visiting the 19-year-old actress' family.

He told The Youthgossip.com : Her mum lives just down the road. She came down to see her mum and he tagged along.

He did get a bit frustrated and there was a bit of a scuffle.'

The fight was calmed by fellow drinkers and Shia left the bar in a taxi.

Police were not called over the incident.

The Transformers' actor : who was involved in two bar fights last year : recently expressed his belief he has learned from his past mistakes and begun to calm down.

He said: I've made mistakes along the way, but I'm learning. I'm more comfortable with myself, and I'm calming down. I think most twentysomething men go through similar struggles and start seeing what boundaries and what rules are. It's about pushing limits and trying to find yourself. I've never been able to learn from other people's mistakes : I'm not that smart : so I usually learn by trial by fire.'

Breaking News Ashley Greene worried about Kristen Stewart's flingAshley Greene worried about Kristen Stewart's fling

Ashley Greene hopes Kristen Stewart's affair 'won't taint' the 'Twilight Saga' franchise.

Kristen's co-star and real life boyfriend Robert Pattinson dumped her during the summer following her fling with married director Rupert Sanders and while the pair have now reconciled, Ashley : who plays Alice Cullen in the vampire series : hopes it won't hurt the release of 'Breaking Dawn Part 2′.

She told Youthgossip.com : 'Hopefully it won't taint it and people will still be able to enjoy the movie.'

Robert : who plays heartthrob vampire Edward Cullen in the 'Twilight Saga' franchise : recently revealed he improvised for the sex screens with Kristen, who stars as Bella Swan, in both 'Breaking Dawn' films but was so impressed with his moves that he would love to direct one of his own.

Robert explained: 'I haven't even seen the scene and I feel like I did half of it by myself. The only thing I really remember is doing the thing on her clothes [pulling down her zipper] which was my idea, of course it was my idea.

'If you notice the little thing … we kind of end up at the top [of the bed] and that was my idea as well because we made a little rig for it and that was my idea.

'I should be a director, just for sex scenes. Other than that I just remember staring into the camera and trying to make sexy faces and I don't think it got in the movie.'

Kate Moss used to dress her brother up as girl.

The 38-year-old supermodel says she's always been into fashion and as she didn't have a sister, she used to put her sibling Nick in her clothes and call him Sylvia.

She said: I definitely liked clothes. I used to dress my brother up in looks, as girls. His name was Sylvia. I used to dress him up and make him come to the door and knock and say, Is Kate coming out?' to my mum. I've got a picture of him. He had a beauty spot, fake boobs, and everything : very Liz Taylor. My brother didn't mind. He found the picture and framed it for me. Kate, Love always, Sylvia.'

Katy Perry hid under a table when she spotted Russell Brand in a restaurant.

The Firework' singer was horrified when a romantic meal with boyfriend John Mayer at the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills almost turned into a confrontation with her ex husband and ducked under her table to avoid him.

A source told The Youthgossip.com : As soon as Katy saw Russell she hid under the table. When he was directed to one far away she emerged.

John threw some money on the table and they headed to the back door and their waiting car.

Russell didn't seem to see a thing but everyone in the restaurant saw what happened.'

Just last month Katy, 28 and Russell, 37, were spotted at the Los Angeles Lakers basketball season opening game where they were seated at opposite ends of the VIP area and reportedly didn't speak at all.

However, just days later the quirky comedian made an effort to show he still cares for his ex-wife : who he split from in December 2011 : by buying her a gold cuff for her recent birthday as well as sending her a handmade meditation cushion.

A source explained: Even though they've broken up, Russell wanted to send Katy something. He thought it would be nice to let her know he's thinking of her.'

Russell's mum Barbara also remembered her former daughter-in-law's birthday, sending her special flowers and a card to her Los Angeles home.

Barfi Movie Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

Director Anurag Basu (Life in a.. metro, Gangster) returns after Kites, an ambitious film that didn't work due to it's excess usage of Spanish. His latest, Barfi starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz, is a cheerfully unconventional film.

Story: The film is about Murphy (Ranbir), who is lovingly called Barfi. He falls in love at first sight with Shruthi (Ileana D'Cruz) and expresses his feelings, even though he cannot hear or speak. Shurthi is engaged to her college sweetheart, but soon shares a warm friendship with Barfi that slowly turns into love. Their cute love story is cut short, when Shruthi's mother convinces her to marry the man she is engaged to, as Barfi is deaf and mute.

The film has a second love angle between Barfi and Jhilmil (Priyanka), who is autistic. While her parents find it difficult to handle her, she gets along well with Barfi.

Barfi Review

What works for Barfi
The performances: For a film with very few dialogues, Barfi relies almost entirely on it's actors. Ranbir Kapoor is absolutely brilliant. He slips into the skin of his character and brings it to life : all without a single dialogue. His charisma, smile, facial expressions work big time. Undoubtedly one of the best performances of the year so far. As for Priyanka, in one of the toughest roles of her career, she delivers a stellar performance. Never for a second do you realize it's her : a huge compliment for any actor. Ileana D'Cruz makes a confident debut, apart from her crooked teeth she looks lovely on-screen. Ranbir's mannerisms deserves a special mention here : everything from the way he combs his hair, carries his weird hairstyle and even the way he rides his cycle make for a fun watch.
The fantastic moments: Again, for a silent film, Barfi has some genuinely funny and heart-warming moments that ensures the first half is high on entertainment value. Watch out for the scenes, where Ranbir tries to woo Ileana, his antics make you instantly fall in love with his character. And also the innocent moments between Ranbir and Priyanka in the second. Well written, skilfully directed and brilliantly performed.
Almost everything else: The background score is top-notch and so is the cinematography. Darjeeling has been beautifully captured on-screen. Pritam's melodious music goes well with the film.

What doesn't work

The last 20-30 minutes: A simple love story is made way too complicated in the end as the story suddenly has everything in it - murder, kidnapping, love-triangle, flashbacks, confusion.. you name it. The film is far from realistic, yet, the cinematic liberties that Basu has taken in the second half, to include the various twists and turns, are a little too hard to digest.
Slow paced: It's a film that needs to be watched with a bit of patience.

Audience reaction: During intermission, the film got a stand-ovation. Yes, the first half was that good. Towards the end of the film though, quite a few people were seen leaving even before the credits rolled.

Overall, Barfi has a fabulously entertaining first half, with standout performances by the lead stars. Do watch it, preferably in theatre.

Rating:

Box office: Has opened to a fantastic response at multiplexes. With strong word-of-mouth, Barfi should put up some big numbers in the first week.

English Vinglish Music Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

Evergreen beauty Sridevi is returning to the silver screen after a hiatus of 15 years with "English Vinglish". Its soundtrack covers six tracks, created by new-age master composer Amit Trivedi, with lyrics penned by Swanand Kirkire.

The album kicks off with the title track "English vinglish", a peppy and energetic track to start off the day and fight challenges in life. Sunita Rao's vocals blend quite well with Trivedi's, and the number definitely elevates the spirit. The lyrics, in true Hinglish style, don't seem vague and have been penned with an aesthetic approach by Kirkire. There's good use of instruments like violin fused with contemporary sounds.

The track also has a male version where Trivedi takes centrestage. Musically it isn't too different, but the magic of the singer's voice strikes the right chords and charms the listener all the way.

It is followed by "Dhak dhuk", a folksy and soft number which deals with the anxieties of a young bride leaving for another country. Trivedi is brilliant behind the mike in this one, with his soulful rendition. This gloomy composition grows on the listener. The use of flute in the song to good effect is especially plausible, and Kirkire has penned lyrics, which tug right at the heartstrings.

Next up on the playlist is "Manhattan". Dialogues by Sridevi, envisioning the hustle bustle of a US city, welcome the listener in this track. It starts on a high note full of energy but fails to create an impact. Clinton Cerejo is average in the vocal department, but the surprise package is Bianca Gomes who impresses with her voice. Some good techno sounds here and there with the flute are nice on the ear, but the track still falls short of expectations.

"Gustakh dil" brings back the duo of Trivedi and Rao together and their voices really do wonders. Such perfect sync is a rarity and this might well be one of the best duets this year in Bollywood. The track uses minimal sounds and focusses on the singers' talent, bringing the best out of them. It has bit of a rock touch to it. Kudos also to Kirkire for doing justice to the song with his beautiful words.

Rounding up the album is "Navraj majhi", crooned by an ensemble of singers including Sunidhi Chauhan, Swanand Kirkire, Natalie Di Luccio and Neelambari Kirkire. The song captures the essence of a traditional Marathi wedding. Sunidhi is good on the vocals while Natalie D'Luccio and Trivedi enjoin a modern flavour to this folk track. The lyricist and his mother, Neelambari Kirkire, also join the celebration. It's fun all the way.

Although the "English Vinglish" album lacks the lustre of new age Bollywood albums, it manages to leave the listener smiling with its simple approach. There are no remixes and nothing out-of-the-box here, but it delights.

Heroine Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

After Barfi last week, UTV Motion Pictures today released their second keenly awaited film : Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine starring Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda.

Story: Heroine is about Mahi Arora (Kareena), a successful Bollywood actress, whose position in the industry is under constant threat with rival actresses and newcomers. Mahi is madly in love with married superstar Aryan Khanna (Arjun), who is on the verge of a divorce with his wife Isha (Shilpi Sharma). Mahi is insecure about her relationship, as Aryan is unwilling to commit marriage. When Aryan agrees to do a love-making scene in one of his films, without Mahi's consent, the two breakup.

Enter publicist Pallavi (Divya Dutta), who approaches Mahi with a proposal to change her image and build her brand. Pallavi does her job and Mahi is back in news and her falling career revives once again. She starts dating Angad (Randeep Hooda), vice captain of the Indian Cricket team. He helps her get a role in a film with superstar Abbas Khan (Sanjay Suri). Career-wise things go from bad to worse, even though her film does well at the box-office, as Abbas Khan shortens her role in the film. Critics call her a glam-doll, a non-actress. What does Mahi do next? How does she survive alcohol addiction, the constant threat to her position in the industry and most importantly how does she battle her own insecurities?

Heroine Review

For a film that promises an insiders take on the Bollywood film industry, Heroine promises to be a fine film initially, but falls flat when Bhandarkar takes the dark and depressing route. Apart from a few scenes just before the interval when Mahi's career begins to revive and her relationship with Angad blossoms, Heroine as a whole remains terribly depressing.

Strangely, the film has way too many similarities to Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion. Gay designers and journalists (with typical mannerisms), excessive smoking/drinking, sexual politics, back-biting, bitching.. you name it and Heroine has got it all. What worked for Fashion was the inspiring rise of Meghna Mathur, here Madhur completely neglects to shed any light on Mahi's past.

Heroine drags to an extent when you stop caring for the protagonist. Madhur has tried to squeeze too much into the film, probably every incident that he has ever heard of.

Now before the review gets depressing, let's talk of the positives. Kareena Kapoor delivers a stellar performance rising way above the mediocre script. She lives the character of Mahi Arora. (spoilers ahead) Watch out for the scene at the brothel, where she goes to study the lives of prostitutes, in an effort get into the skin of her character. The funeral scene in the climax. And also her mental anguish when she releases her own sex tapes and battles guilt. Outstanding performance from one of the best leading ladies of our times. Also she looks at her sexiest best in Manish Malhotra's costumes. At the age of 32, she is still one of the hottest stars in the industry. Having said that, she exposes as much or a little more than Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture'. Did her character really demand the constant in-our-face cleavage show?

The others have very little to do : Arjun Rampal is good, Randeep Hooda overacts in one scene when he confronts Kareena, apart from that he's done well. Sanjay Suri is fine. Ranvir Shorey is brilliant. Govind Namdeo is good. Shahana Goswami has a small role and leaves a mark.

The music is good, Halkat Jawani will be loved by the masses. Camera work (Mahesh Limaye) is excellent. Salim-Sulaiman's background music is good. The editing

Overall, Heroine is one of the biggest disappointments of 2012. The expectations were high from Madhur and he fails to deliver this time around. His movies are getting repetitive and stereotypical. Having said that, Kareena Kapoor is the star of Heroine and she certainly deserved a better film to showcase her acting talent. Infact, it's her performance that makes the film bearable.

Rating: Watch if you must for Kareena, otherwise avoidable.

Do post your Heroine reviews below. We'd love to know what you think!

Oh My God Movie Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

Oh My God directed by Umesh Shukla is based on a highly successful Gujrati play named Kanji Virrudh Kanji' by Bhavesh Mandalia, which was later adapted into Paresh Rawal's own Hindi play Krishan vs Kanhaiya'.

The film features Paresh Rawal as Kanji Bhai, Akshay Kumar as Lord Krishna, Mithun Chakraborty and Govind Namdeo as godmen.

Story: Oh My God is about Kanji Bhai, a non-believer in god. He owns an antique shop, which also sells idols. He manipulates the faith that people have in god, for his profit. One day, an earthquake hits his town and only his shop gets destroyed. His insurance agency rejects his claim saying it's an act of god'.

Having lost everything, he takes god to court! But how do you sue someone who you cannot see? He decides to send legal notices to all the high priests and godmen in town. The case catches the attention of the media and also people who have been affected by natural calamities.

So who wins the battle? Kanji Bhai or God? Watch the film to find out.

Oh My God Review

Oh My God is a thought-provoking film that deals with a sensitive subject. In a country that is obsessed with god and various godmen, the film has insightful arguments on age-old beliefs and rituals. In recent times, several godmen have been charged of fraud, but that hasn't reduced the number of believers. Almost everyday we hear of a new swami' who is capable of performing miracles and changing lives forever. The film has a simple message for believers in godmen : instead of running around in search of god in temples and various other ashrams, look within, god is within all us.

Sounds preachy? It isn't. Oh My God is a light-hearted film from start to finish. It is filled with witty dialogues, fabulous performances and well-written characters that make it a fun watch. The courtroom sequences and television chat show (with Kanji Bhai as the guest) are hilarious.

The film has no unnecessary songs (except one item number which goes well with the film). The background music is good. The production values aren't great, but acceptable for a medium budget film.

As for the negatives, the first half could have been better and put across more convincingly.

Paresh Rawal is brilliant as Kanji Bhai, especially the courtroom scenes where he takes on the lawyers and several highly-influenced godmen. Akshay Kumar does well. The length of his role might disappoint some of his fans. Mithun Chakraborty is fantastic. Govind Namdeo plays his part well. Mahesh Manjrekar as the lawyer is good. Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Deva have one well-choreographed song.

Overall, Oh My God was a life-changing experience. The message is simple: be god-loving, not god-fearing. The film is unlikely to be universally accepted, as it deals with a sensitive subject.

Rating: Highly recommended

Ishkq In Paris Music Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

Inspired by the romantic classic "Before Sunrise", "Ishkq in Paris" is being touted as actress Preity Zinta's comeback film, after she took a break from silver screen to focus on her IPL cricket team.

The music, set in the scenery of Paris, has been composed by musical duo Sajid-Wajid and they have got ample support from six lyricists for the soundtrack. The album has a total of six songs for the listeners.

First up on the playlist is "It's all about tonight", a modern track with a mix of French, English and Hindi lyrics. The peppy number is full of techno sounds and has been crooned by the Sunidhi Chauhan, who dominates it all along. She has been supported well by Sophie Choudry and Rahul Vaidya in the vocal department, who deserve their share of praise in making the track a sure shot hit on the dance floor.

Changing the mood is "Saiyyan", a touching track with beautiful lyrics by Prasoon Joshi and sung in the soulful voice of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The song manages to give you a classical feel with the inclusion of tabla and harmonium. However, it is the violin that gets the gloominess across and has been put to use amazingly well by the composers.

Still it would not be your favorite Rahat number because after a point it fails to move you.

"Jaane bhi de" brightens up the mood and it is a sheer pleasure to hear the melodious voices of Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan on the same platform. The piano and guitar are a delight and with minimal experimentation in the composition, the composers help retain the romantic flavour of the lyrics.

The duet is just sublime and delivered to perfection. There is also a solo version of the song by Wajid which is equally good. Although it's hard to choose between the two, one tends to vote in favour of the former, purely because of the beautiful blend of two melodious voices.

Next up is "Teri Choodiyan da crazy crazy sound", penned by Jalees Sherwani and crooned by Wajid, though it is a disappointment. What a disastrous transition the vocalist goes through and despite the dhol beats and Punjabi tadka, it fails to impress. The track is definitely a passe.

Rounding up the album is "Kudiye de kurti" which has Bollywood superstar Salman Khan shaking a leg with the pretty Preity. The song is high on energy and brings out the Punjabi flavour well with rhythmic dhol beats and harmonium. Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal have upped the love quotient with their energetic voices and set you in a groovy mood.

All in all, the soundtrack of "Ishkq in Paris" is a commendable effort that strives hard to reflect the varying moods of love and definitely manages to achieve it.

English Vinglish Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

English Vinglish is Sridevi's comeback film after a 15 year sabbatical. Known for her outstanding performances in films like Chalbaaz, Mr India, Lamhe and many more, Sridevi returns with a film directed by debutante Gauri Shinde, wife of producer R Balki (Paa, Cheeni Kum).

Several popular yesteryear actresses have tried, without much success : Madhuri Dixit failed with Aaja Nachle and Karishma Kapoor returned with one of 2012′s biggest duds Dangerous Ishq. Can Sridevi make a successful comeback?

English Vinglish is about an Indian housewife and her quest to learn English. Shashi (Sridevi) travels to the United States Of America, and finds it extremely difficult to communicate : on the flight, with the airport officials, coffee shops, trains, everywhere. Her husband and children mock her for her inability to understand English. Shashi then decides to join a 4 week English learning course and makes new friends from different cultures and countries.

English Vinglish Review

Without getting too preachy, director Gauri Shinde takes you on a journey full of life lessons. Through the course of 2 odd hours, the film teaches you not to be judgemental, respect your spouse, the power of dedication towards a certain goal and eventually the satisfaction of achieving what you set out to. Much like R Balki's other films, English Vinglish too has comedy, emotions and drama. It's a story that's well narrated, with characters that are easy to relate to.

There are several scenes in the film that deserve a mention. The New York cafe scene, where Shashi is humiliated (hard to imagine any other actor pulling off). The entertaining sequences in the English classroom. And finally, Shashi's speech in the climax, that was received with thunderous applause in the movie hall.

The film is slightly slow pace, especially in the second half where it tends to drag a bit. Music by Amit Trivedi blends beautifully into the film. Laxman Uteker's cinematography is good.

Moving on to the performances, English Vinglish is Sridevi's show all the way. Her screen presence, charm and acting skills are intact. Her voice and trembling hands can sometimes be distracting. Adil Hussain, who plays Shashi's husband, is good. Priya Anand as her niece looks pretty and acts well. Amitabh Bachchan makes a special appearance and leaves a mark. The rest, including the french actor, do well.

Overall, English Vinglish is a fine film with a good story and fabulous performances. A film that can be watched and enjoyed with your entire family. Go for it.

Ajab Gazabb Love Music Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

Jackky Bhagnani's last film gave the chart-topping "Party abhi baaki hai", and one hopes his new movie, "Ajab Gazabb Love", will recreate the same magic with its tunes. The soundtrack, composed by Sajid-Wajid, has four original tracks and two remixes. They have got ample support from Kausar Munir, Sukhjit Thandi and Priya Panchal, who have penned the lyrics for the album.

The soundtrack kicks off with a bang as Mika Singh's rocking voice comes your way in "Boom boom (lip lock)", a peppy number full of catchy beats. In terms of music, it is not the finest melody from Sajid-Wajid's storehouse, yet it manages to engage due to the cheeky lyrics by Priya Panchal and some good techno beats. Again, Mika's energetic voice just forces the listener to get on the floor and shake a leg on this track.

It also has a remixed version, which has a bit more beats thrown in here and there, but there's nothing to bowl you over. It's better to stick with the original, though one can sample the remixed version too.

Slowing down the tempo, "Tu" hits the right romantic note with Mohit Chauhan's soulful vocals. There is a good play of varied musical instruments while not downplaying the singer's voice in any way. The lyrics are quite smooth and Kausar Munir has done a good job by bringing out a dreamy essence.

The sound of piano emerges loud and clear in "Sun soniye", a romantic duet crooned by Mohammed Irfan and Antara Mitra. Their voices blend quite well and elevate the listener's spirit. The use of violin in various intervals is commendable and so are the mesmerising lyrics, penned by Kausar Munir.

There is also a remixed version of this track, but one fails to understand the necessity of turning a blissful soft track into a club number. The composers have done a decent job by transforming it into a racy song with beats, but it fails to move you.

Rounding up the album is "Nachde Punjabi", an out and out Bhangra track, sung by Dalvinder Singh. There is a good fusion of traditional dhol beats with modern sounds and some authentic Punjabi lyrics by Sukhjit Thandi.

Overall, the soundtrack of "Ajab Gazabb Love" is satisfactory. But it could have upped its ante had there been one or two more songs. Nonetheless, it has good energy to keep you rolling.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Music Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

What can be a dream romantic Bollywood project? Just Imagine!! Okay It has to be the iconic and trendsetter Yash Chopra directing the King of Romance Shah Rukh Khan paired opposite today's topmost leading lady Katrina Kaif. What if the music is composed by the Oscar-winning maestro Allah Rakha Rahman with lyrics from the most gifted writer Gulzar Saab? Well The dream has come true!!

The association of all these legends has given Yash Chopra's last souvenir to Bollywood Jab Tak Hai Jaan', a multi-dimensional feel. Can the stage get any bigger? The obvious answer to that question will be given on November 13, when this epic saga of undying romance will hit the screens, globally. For now it's time to check out the much anticipated music album. So without much ado, let's press the play button on the remote.

Challa: Be it DDLJ, Veer Zaara or RNBDJ, SRK-Yashraj combo has always created magic by exploring the Punjabi flavor and this time it's no different. Challa' video is already out and it has created a lot of frenzy all around. Rabbi's voice is refreshing as it bears uncanny resemblance to his chartbuster Bulla ki Jaana'. Gulzar's words give a Punjabi folk touch to the song. Its commendable how comfortably Rahman shuffles across different languages and still delivers sheer quality. Chartbuster! (Rating 4/5)

Saans: Saans' is a soft romantic composition driven by sensuously poetical lyrics. It's one of the best tracks in the album. The huskier tone of Shreya Ghoshal's voice oozes up the erotica feel of the song. Mohit Chauhan is average. (4/5)

Ishq Shava: It's time for a zany dance number now. Rahman provides variety with the use of some interesting musical instruments. Gulzar's lyrics are in synch with the mood of the song. Shilpa Rao's vocals are catchy. But the real masterstroke and icing on the cake is to get Raghav Mathur ("Can't Get Enough" fame) sing this song. The USP of the song is some killer vocals by this Canadian singer. (3.5/5)

Heer: Punjabi feel in the album returns with brilliant Sufi composition 'Heer' sung by none other than Sufi ki Sultana Harshdeep Kaur. Kaur, fresh from the success of Jugni from Cocktail, takes this huge opportunity with her both hands and she is mesmerizing. The words by Gulzar are equally dreamy. (3.5/5)

Jiya Re: Neeti Mohan, who is a regular now in Rahman's live shows, gets a chance to sing this groovy number. The melody is catchy, livelier and foot-tapping. Words from Gulzar glorify the feeling of a free bird. (3/5)

Jab Tak Hai Jaan: The title track of the movie is a hauntingly poetic melody by Rahman with some bewitchingly romantic lyrics penned by Gulzar. The song starts off slowly but picks up great pace as it goes on. Another Rahman regular Javed Ali strikes gold with his earthy and highly energetic vocals. He is ably assisted by talented Chennai crooner ShakthiSree Gopalan. (3.5/5)

Saans (Reprise), Ishq Dance and Poem: Saans(Reprise) a much slower and highly situational version of Saans sung again by Shreya. Ishq Dance is an instrumental piece. Jab Tak Hai Jaan poem has been seen and heard in the promo and it has been included in the music album as well in the voice of King Khan.

Overall Verdict : Rating:

From the pioneers of Romance, we expected at least one romantic evergreen number which will capture the listener's heart from the word go and stay in his mind for years like Humko Hum hi se churalo, Tujhe Dekha to ye jaana, Tu Hai meri Kiran, Dil To Pagal Hai or Tere Liye Hum bhi Jiye. That is missing.

The album, no doubt, is highly refreshing as is evident from the fact that we see irregular names like Rabbi, Raghav, Harshdeep and Neeti in a mainstream Hindi music album. Visuals will be out of the world to say the least. Songs take time to grow on you and the success of the music will be directly proportional to the film's success at the ticket window which should not be a tough ask given SRK's foolproof record with Yashraj Banner.

Get ready for a rocking musical Diwali!!!

Aiyyaa Review - Rani Mukherji - Bollywood Gossips

0

In an interview with us recently, Rani Mukherji was miffed with the media for calling Aiyyaa' her comeback film. Aamir Khan disappears for two years after every release, do you ask this question to him?' she questioned. Rani's last film was the critically acclaimed No One Killed Jessica' in January 2011. While 20 odd months is a long time, Rani has selective but working non-stop.

Her latest release is Aiyyaa produced by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Sachin Kundalkar. The film is about Meenakshi Deshpande (Rani Mukherji), a middle-class girl who lives with her family. She has a big time crush on a south Indian guy Surya (Prithviraj), because he smells awesome. Meenakshi follows Surya, who doesn't even acknowledge her presence. Soon, her marriage is fixed to a Maharashtrian boy. Unwilling to get married to a guy of her parents choice, Meenakshi runs away. What happens next?

Aiyyaa Review

The problem with Aiyyaa is it's slow pace, unnecessary songs and those several cringe-worthy scenes : especially Meenakshi's extreme obsession with scent and smell. After a point, the dialogues, the love story falls flat and even Rani's much-loved expressions get irritating. To add to the woes, most of the characters are unreal and way too loud.

The concept is different : it's unlikely any other Hindi film has ever explored the sensuousness in smell. If only the director and the writers were a little more imaginative. The constant stalking by Rani, her heavy sensuous breathing.. tend to get boring and repetitive.

The pace is extremely slow, and the plot is wafer-thin. Ideally, Aiyyaa should have been under 2 hours. Visually the film is very appealing with rich colours, cinematography by Amalendu Choudhary is excellent. Vaibhavi Merchant's choreography is good, some of Rani's moves might shock the audience.

Rani Mukherji is excellent as Meenakshi Deshpande, but the script lets her down. For someone who has achieved it all in the industry over the last decade or so, it was brave move on her part to accept this role. Pritviraj has absolutely nothing to do, except showcase his physique. He only has a couple of dialogues in the entire film. The other actors are either too loud or don't get their comic timing right.

Overall, Aiyyaa is strictly for Rani Mukherji fans who have missed her on the big screen. For someone who has loved most of Anurag Kashyap's films (as producer or director) in recent times, Aiyyaa is a major letdown.

Bhoot Returns Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

Ram Gopal Varma's last successful film as director was Sarkar, more than half-a-decade ago in 2005. Since then, he has directed several films, all of which have been massive disasters. This time around, he returns with the second part in the Bhoot' series. The first film released in 2003 and remains arguably the best horror film ever made in Bollywood.

Bhoot Returns is the story of the Awasthi family, who move into a haunted house, where tenants tend to vanish. Tarun Awasthi (JD Charavarthy) grabs his opportunity to buy the house for much below the market value. He moves into the house with his wife (Manisha Koirala), sister (Madhu Shalini), daughter Nimmi (Alayana Sharma) and son (Kaushank).

Bhoot Returns Review

Horror films are made to scare the audience. Here, with Bhoot Returns, you wonder if RGV's motive behind this film was to scare or make the audience laugh. The script is weak and the story is predictable : Tarun's daughter Nimmu finds a doll, which was gifted to her from her friend, who is only visible to her. Soon, members of the family go missing and it's a fight for survival.

Those typical unnatural occurrences, a must for every Hindi horror film, follow : footsteps, weird noises and banging door : none of which are scary.

For a change, RGV gets the camera angles right. The 3D effect is decent too. The background score should have been better.

Baby Alayana Sharma, Madhu Shalini and Manisha Koirala do well. The rest are okay.

Overall, Bhoot Returns isn't one bit scary. It film ends up being unintentionally funny. So is it RGV's worst? Not quite. It's hard to beat AAG and Department. He has tried his best though.

Talaash Music Review - Bollywood Gossips

The first music review of Talaash by Abhishek Sharma

Well, the wait is finally over! The music of "Talaash" is a mega release for several reasons. An Aamir Khan movie is nothing short of an event. Things simply reach dizzying heights considering the fact that, Talaash is his first release in 3 years (3 Idiots released in December 2009). This time he's paired opposite the newlywed Kareena Kapoor and the talented veteran Rani Mukerji.

Music Director Ram Sampath made little impact with his initial soundtracks (Khakee, Family, Luv Ka The End..) but he got recognition with the musical success of Delhi Belly. Since then he seems to have become an Aamir Khan regular as he impressed with some soulful compositions in the TV series Satyamev Jayate'.

However, Talaash is the biggest film of his career and he is aided by the legendary lyricist Javed Akhtar. It's with humongous expectations that we explore, rather look forward to savoring the music album of this Excel Entertainment's dream production.

Talaash Music Review

Listen to the full songs in Talaash

1) Muskaanein Jhooti Hai: This opening number of the album is instantly catchy. The video promo is already out and reminds one of the Madhubala's evergreen classic Aaiye Meherbaa'. Remember the husky voice behind the song Khoya Khoya Chand' in Anurag Kashyap's Shaitaan? Suman Sridhar has utilized this huge opportunity to the fullest as she sounds effortless in the song. This is not the kind of song that makes one head for that dance floor in the discotheque. However, when seen on screen it can well be expected to be a live wire. (3/5)

2) Jee Le Zaraa : The album enters into terrains of contemporary Bollywood's mushy moods in "Jee le Zaraa". Vishal Dadlani's soft crooning vocals delivered in streams of light-hearted soft-rock ballad orchestrations. Ram Sampath produces a gem as his composition gets steam from the impressive poetically descriptive wordings by Javed Akhtar. The song grows on you on repeated hearings. (3.5/5)

3) Jiya Lage Na: When the man (Ram Sampath) is at the helm of the music, his better half can't be far behind; Sona Mohapatra makes an entry with a classy number, Jiya Lage Na. She caught everyone's attention with her stupendous singing in Mujhe Kya Bechega Rupaiya' from Satyamev Jayate. Jiya Lage Na' is essentially a fusion, classical with a slightly western touch having soulful lyrics. Samsung-[v] Super Singer Contest winner Ravindra Upadhyay is totally convincing in his sultry rendition. (3.5/5)

4) Hona Hai Kya : This is a highly situational song as the wording reflects the Suspense and Thriller genre of the movie. It is an erotically charged solo sung with gusto by Ram Sampath himself. The tempo sees a gradual and soft transition from fast to slow. (2.5/5)

5) Lakh Duniya Kahe : Sampath again, but this time it's a rank high-quality gripping soft song. If you are looking for music that is more for your mood rather than to make you move, then Lakh Duniya Kahe' is for you. Feelings and emotions are felt and this is where the song tries to reach. Deep meanings in the lyrics of Javed Akhtar beautify the piece. The background chorus is sweet and magnifies the feel of the song. (3.5/5)

The music of Talaash is neither too commercial nor too serious. It is not catchy, too melodious or instantly likeable but it amazingly keeps the momentum within a particular genre. The musical compositions do carry themselves well and leaves one satisfied to a certain extent. To add to that, Javed Akhtar does stay on the top with non redundant lyrics.

The soundtrack of Talaash is based on situational events of the script and will be better received, when watched on screen.

Student Of The Year Movie Review - Bollywood Gossips

0

Karan Johar is one of the most loved and respected directors in the industry and Student Of The Year : his first film without Shahrukh Khan : is probably his biggest test. With 3 newcomers, Karan returns to what he does best, a candy floss romcom starring Varun Dhawan, Siddarth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt. The film also features Rishi Kapoor and little Anjali (now 24) from Kuch Kuch Hota Jai, Sana Saeed.

Story: Student Of The Year is set in St Teresa's High School, one of the most prestigious schools in the country. Most students here are filthy rich, drive a Ferrari and wear designer clothes. One such student is Rohan Nanda (Varun Dhawan), son of one of India's richest men (played by Ram Kapoor). Rohan doesn't get along with his father, who is overtly critical and under-estimates him. He is in love with Shanaya Singhania (Alia Bhatt). She loves him too, but isn't too comfortable with Rohan's closeness with school mate Tanya (Sana Saeed).

Enter Abhimanyu Singh (Siddharth Malhotra), who comes from a middle-class background and has ambitions of making it big. Initially he doesn't get along with Rohan, but after a Football match, the two become good friends. Soon, Abhimanyu falls for Shanaya, who also has feelings towards him. Or does she?

There is also a major school competition for the prized Student Of The Year' trophy.

Student Of The Year Review

Student Of The Year is a typical Karan Johar film; with slightly over-the-top characters, huge sets, beautiful costumes : infact, every frame in the film is picture-perfect and larger-than-life. Every newcomer gets a grand intro; Varun Dhawan as a rockstar, Alia Bhatt's reminds you of Poo (Kareena) in K3G and Siddarth Malhotra makes a Hrithik Roshan like entry.

The first half is a lot of fun, and at times, reminds you of classics like Main Hoon Na and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikhander. The film has drama, subtle romance but never gets melodramatic. Karan Johar films are known to make the audience cry, Student Of The Year doesn't. It's more of a fun-filled entertainer, than a emotional drama.

It wouldn't be incorrect to say, this is Karan Johar's most light-hearted and fun film since his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He narrates the story through a series of flashbacks, which culminates into a brilliantly written and executed climax.

So any negatives? Not many. The film tends to drag a bit in the second half. Also, the length (2 hours 26 mins) should ideally have been shorter.

Vishal-Shekhar's music and background score goes well with the film. Disco Dewaane and Ishq Wala Love are my personal favorites. Niranjan Iyengar's dialogues are well-written. Ayananka's camerawork is extraordinary.

The performances are good. Varun Dhawan is fantastic and performs like a seasoned actor. He looks good on-screen and emotes well. Alia Bhatt has to be one of the cutest newcomers in the industry. She looks stunning in a bikini too. Acting-wise, she does well, but her character doesn't really demand on-screen histrionics. Siddharth Malhotra gets a few scenes right, but he has a along way to go as an actor. He doesn't quite get his expressions right in a few important scenes. Again, it's only his debut, he will improve. Rishi Kapoor is brilliant as a gay dean. Ronit Roy is effective. Kayoze Irani (Boman Irani's son) makes a confident debut. Ram Kapoor is fabulous. Sana Saeed looks hot. There are several special appearances in the film : Kajol, Boman Irani, Farah Khan, Vaibhabi Merchant. And no, you wont get to see SRK in SOTY.

Overall, there isn't a dull moment in Student Of The Year. It has something in it for everyone : romance, action, entertainment, good performances and catchy music. Go for it.
