Justin Timberlake blasted by charityJustin Timberlake blasted by charity

Justin Timberlake has been slammed for being more interested in publicity than the charity he helped to raise money for through an annual golf tournament.

Justin Timberlake has been blasted for not spending time with the children of a charity he raised money for.

Five years ago Justin joined forces with Shriners Hospitals for Children, to host an annual Las Vegas celebrity golf tournamentto raise money for sick kids and although the company has praised him for raising millions of dollars for their cause, they were upset that he didn't appear to be interested in spending time with the children he was helping.

Tournament chairman Raoul Frevel told the Las Vegas Review Journal: "We're a world-class organisation. At the time we got involved with golf, we were told by the Tour we needed a big name, and that's how our relationship with Justin came about.

"Justin's a wonderful person. But we tried everything we could to get him more involved with our kids and the hospitals. But it seemed that when the TV cameras weren't on, he disappeared."

However, Mr. Frevel did praise Trouble With The Curve' actor Justin for bringing "star power" to the cause and giving them a foundation to build on for the future.

He said: "The future of pro golf here in Las Vegas wasn't very secure when Justin and the Shriners came in five years ago. Justin added a level of cache and star power in a city that understands the value of that."

At the height of my modelling career I decided that this was something that I wanted to do, and I knew I had to prove I could do it. And probably prove it more than a normal person would have to. I still have a hell of a lot to learn. I'm the first one on set, and I work my butt off. We'll see what happens, but I'm really trying."

Actress Rani Mukerji Says Yash Chopras retirement will be a loss for actors
Yash Chopra's retirement will be a loss for actors, says Rani Mukerji

Rani Mukherjee says actors have to face a great loss as ace director Yash Chopra will retire post Jab Tak Hai Jaan'

"He gets everybody to participate, gives everyone lot of love and every actor on his sets is pampered. So obviously actors will lose out on working with a great director like him. I am lucky to have got the opportunity to work with him," Rani told.

Rani's first film with Chopra was Mujhse Dosti Karoge' which he had produced and later she did half-a-dozen films produced by him including Saathiya', Hum Tum', Bunty Aur Babli' and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic'.

Yash Chopra also directed Rani in Veer Zaara'. On his 80th birthday, Chopra, who has given several golden hits to Indian cinema including Waqt', Deewar', Silsila', announced that he will end his directorial innings with the upcoming Shah Rukh Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer "Jab Tak Hai Jaan", which is releasing on November 13.

"I think it will be a huge loss but it is a personal decision and everybody should respect it. He has been a legend. He has given us films like Deewar', Trishul', Daag', Waqt', Chandni', Lamhe' and Silsila', it is amazing," she said.

On her experience of working with the veteran director-producer, Rani said, "My association with him has been wonderful. I think Yash Chopra is a legend; he is one person who we all look up to not only for the kind of movies he has made but also because he is a great human being. He is a very passionate person."

The Bengali beauty could not stop heaping praises on the legendary director. "I have seen him interacting with other actors and they just love him. He does not put any pressure. He makes his actors be spontaneous and act from the heart."

"Today directors mostly watch monitors and not the actors. But he comes from the time where he used to connect with actors and he follows that. He watches them (actors) behind the camera and not in the monitor," she said.

"There are times when you feel that you could have done better and he is like I have seen, I have got the shot I wanted. The confidence that he brings on sets, it is very natural," she added. Meanwhile, Rani is looking forward to the release of Anurag Kashyap's next home production Aiyyaa'.

Aiyyaa' is the story of a woman who finds a man desirable because he smells good. The film is slated to release on October 12. "If girls see this film, they will identify with my character : Meenakshi. I don't think I ever do any character which I feel is away from reality," Rani said.

Directed by Sachin Kundalkar, "Aiyyaa" also marks the arrival of Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran in Bollywood. Rani said though she has done many romantic fi lms but when Sachin came to her with this different film idea, she decided to give it a go.

Chicago South Asian Film Festival showcases new era of South Asian films and filmmakers:Bollywood News - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

Chicago film aficionados were treated to an array of stellar films, acclaimed artists, and energetic parties at the 3rd annual Chicago South Asian Film Festival. The four-day festival held its Opening Night on September 20th with a star-studded red carpet reception followed by the North American premiere of the much anticipated Bollywood film Heroine'. Artists who walked the red carpet include acclaimed actor Farooq Shaikh, Lillete Dubey, and Adil Hussain. Indian Consul General Mukta Dutta Tomar, Field Museum President Richard Lariviere, and Columbia College Vice President Dr. Eric Winston were also present to show their support. In his opening remarks, Dr. Winston said "I feel like a proud father" as he expressed his and Columbia College Chicago's support for the Festival from its inception back in 2010.

Over the next three days, the Festival showcased the best of South Asian independent cinema to packed audiences at Showplace Icon Theater and Film Row Cinema at Columbia College Chicago. Moviegoers especially enjoyed hearing the various artists and filmmakers talk about their films and performances in the post film discussions. Doggoned' director Arshad Khan described how his lead actress almost got arrested as they filmed without a permit in the streets of Montreal. Actor Adil Hussain got a standing ovation for his performance in "Lessons in Forgetting", a film based on Anita Nair's book of the same name.

The highlight of the Festival was undoubtedly the world premiere of Listen Amaya' starring the magical yesteryear pairing of Farooq Shaikh and Deepti Naval. Director Avinash Kumar Singh's debut film played to a sold out theater with numerous people sitting on the aisle floors to watch the tale of a daughter coming to grips with her widow mother's relationship with a man who is not her father. "I desperately missed having my friend, confidante, editor, writer and wife Geeta sitting beside me as she has done all the way through this film" : said Singh in a touching acknowledgement to his wife.

If the Festival began with a glamorous affair, the closing was no less sensational with Bollywood star Raveena Tandon attending the premiere of her film Shobhna's 7 Nights'. "We've made this film with a lot of love, not money" quipped the charming Tandon before the adoring audience.

A special panel on entertainment law was also held during the festival with one of Chicago's premiere entertainment lawyers Robert Labate explaining the legal aspects of independent filmmaking. "We've found our stride as a Festival this year and truly elevated it to a world class event. We've got some interesting initiatives in store for 2013 and are looking forward to developing them in the coming year" said Festival Director Amit Rana.

A.R. Rahman is 'satisfied' after having worked with Yash Chopra:Bollywood News - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

The opportunity to produce music for a Yash Chopra film is a dream opportunity for any music composer. The gifted musician A.R. Rahman saw his dreams indeed come alive when Chopra presented him with the job of making sweet melodies for his last ever directorial film Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Commenting on the project to a leading Indian newspaper at a public event, Rahman asserted how he now feels after having worked with the great auteur. "Yashji saw one of my concerts in London. We had invited him and I think he may have felt that I should be in his film and was kind enough to call me. So it was a great honour for me because I had not worked with him. My whole Hindi film career is now complete." This is certainly true as Chopra was perhaps the only eminent filmmaker left in the industry that the Oscar winning composer did not have the chance to work with.

Rahman also spoke to the press about the kind of music which he has devised for this romantic saga starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma: "It's a combination. They wanted to do my kind of songs at the same time they wanted the old charm and soul of music that Indian audiences would love and which I wanted to do for a long time." In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Rahman added the following: "Yash Chopra has an amazing passion for love stories and Adi (Aditya Chopra) wants the movie to cater to a younger audience. The music has been composed keeping that in mind." Let's hope that the soundtrack to Jab Tak Hai Jaan lives up to the high expectations which fans of both Chopra and Rahman have towards it!

Jab Tak Hai Jaan will release in cinemas this Diwali on 13 November 2012. The soundtrack to the film will release later this month. Therefore, keep an eye out for this if you want to uncover what Rahman, Chopra, as well as the great lyricist Gulzar have cooked up for us! For now though you can get a taste of what the soundtrack has to offer, as the first official song from the film Challa,' performed by Punjabi singer Rabbi released this week!

And, of course, I loved Balki's previous films and was very happy to be associated with him. As a mother, as a woman, I could relate to the character and felt it was a universal story." Adding, "I enjoy being in front of the camera, and I believe in becoming the character. More than your mind, it comes from your heart, from your soul."

Special CSAFF Review: A Decent Arrangement:Bollywood News - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

We have a special review from this year's Chicago South Asian Film Festival. Guest Reviewer Beth Watkins gives us her thoughts on Sarovar Banka's A Decent Arrangement, which stars Shabana Azmi and Adam Laupus.

I really wanted to love this film about a rudderless (or slacker, as the director called him) Indian-American man, Ashok (Adam Laupus), who goes to India for an arranged marriage wrangled by his aunt (Shabana Azmi). A Decent Arrangement is less the culture clash story that that description may suggest and much more Ashok's coming of age, even though he is putting a first toe in the waters of self-awareness and bravery at a more advanced age than you might suspect. I was frustrated with Ashok throughout most of the film because he refuses to say much about what's going wrong with his life. My favorite moment is when he explains to another American traveler that he is getting an arranged marriage not out of any sense of Indian cultural identity but because he has seen the contentedness of his married friends and wants a little piece of that for himself, and since his demographic identity enables him to get married quite easily, he's going to take advantage of it. I say "demographic identity" purposefully because I have more knowledge of and affiliation with Indian culture than Ashok does.

This is the first time I've seen a story about a non-white person going to India in search of happiness or to find himself, made all the more interesting when the other American character, Lori, who is white, poo-poos Eat Pray Love-type stories while she acts every bit that indulgent, wandering stereotype. The difference between Ashok and Lori is that he's in India because he was trying to head towards something, albeit something he seems to understand so little that he can't participate in it or even identify it, while Lori gives us a line about ivory towers and not knowing if she's really happy.

The film is set in Chandigarh, which is significant for its contrast of the planned city with floundering Ashok and Lori. I can't decide if I think the Indian characters are supposed to be significantly more pulled-together and organized than Ashok. Even if they are not exactly happy (at least not in the American "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness" sort of way), they seem satisfied and calm, perhaps because, as the title suggests, the arrangement of their lives is decent and sufficient, providing opportunities they understand and know how to follow. They know what they're doing, unlike Ashok, who doesn't seem to know anything at all until the very end of the film.

Son of Sardaar Music Review:Bollywood News - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

Son of Sardaar promises to be a masala action/comedy film, which will feature Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla in key roles. It has been directed by Ashwani Dhir and produced by Ajay Devgn, N.R. Pachisia and Pravin Talreja. The film is scheduled for a Diwali release on 13 November 2012. It will therefore be going head-to-head with Yash Chopra's Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which also releases on the same day. A clear synopsis has not yet been revealed, but apparently this film is based on a man who becomes the prime target of a family conflict once he returns to his ancestral village.

The music for the film has been produced by Himesh Reshammiya, who has recently composed soundtracks to films such as OMG Oh My God, Dangerous Ishhq and Bodyguard. The dynamic due Sajid-Wajid are also guest composers on the soundtrack and they have both created the song Yeh Jo Halki Halki Khumariya.' A number of lyricists have made contributions to this album, which include the legendary Sameer, Shabbir Ahmed, Manoj Yadav, as well as Irshad Kamil. So what does the soundtrack of Son of Sardaar have to offer to us? Let's take a look and explore what it will bring to our ears!

The first song in the album is the title track Son of Sardaar, performed as a duet by Aman Trikha and Reshammiya. A mix of rock and Punjabi flavours are infused into this song, with references to Reshammiya's previous composition Desi Beat' from the film Bodyguard also present in parts of it. Despite Trikha and Reshammiya delivering good vocals and the fact that the composition is not bad, I would still consider it to be average overall. Having said this, I very much prefer the song on its own compared to its horrid music video which recently released as part of the film promos. The reference to Desi Beat' should have been left out completely and this was perhaps a lazy effort on Reshammiya's part. However, I think this song may have an impact on certain listeners and therefore, I would not classify it as skip-worthy. So give it a listen and see if you agree or disagree with me. In general though, it is satisfactory but it could have been honed in order to make it a powerful number. The remix of this song is just pointless! I feel that it was included just to extend the length of this album, rather than provide a catchy and highly addictive remix version to a Bollywood song. Hence, give this one a miss in my opinion as you will not be missing out on much.

Following this we have Bichdann, performed by the brilliant Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The Tabla is the dominant musical instrument here, though Rahat's voice takes over so much that its presence is not felt to a great degree. Initially, I was actually quite excited to listen to this song knowing that Rahat has sung it. However, after having listened to it in full, I found this to be arguably one of Rahat's weakest songs. I felt the composition did not make this an ideal platform for him to truly showcase his splendid vocals which we are all aware of and have heard him utilize in previous songs. The same applies to its Reprise version. Although the music is certainly an improvement from the original as it has good bass and a strong modern touch to it, Rahat deserved something more magical to complement his signature voice. Hence, do not have such high expectations for this song as you will be left unsatisfied!

The next track is Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein Yeh Sawaal Aata Hai. Clearly this is a play-on-words with the classic song Kabhi Kabhie Mere Dil Mein Khayal Aata Hai' from the film Kabhi Kabhie. There are two versions: a Funk Version and a House Version, and there is no singing involved. Instead, it is peppered with dialogues from the film by Ajay Devgn. Thus, it is only fair that my judgement on both tracks are based on the music alone more than anything else. I personally think that the Funk Version is much better in contrast to the House Version. The Funk Version has both a contemporary and desi style to it, with the use of instruments such as the dhol drums and electric guitars. This makes it more enjoyable compared to the House Version which is a more techno oriented track and contains drums and bass also. However both tracks have no real appeal and again, I feel they have been included simply to extend the length of the album. Hence, they are both skip worthy. This is despite the fact that they may be referred to by those who end up really enjoying the film and want to listen to the dialogues uttered by Devgn.

We also have Rani Tu Mein Raja, sung by Benny Dayal, Bhavya Pandit and Yo Yo Honey Singh. There are a number of central instruments which can be heard like the trumpets and the drums. Honestly the song is not very rewarding. In addition, the music and vocal performances by the singers are mediocre and do not have an impact on you. Neither are the lyrics, especially as it has been penned by Sameer who is famous for having written lyrics for some truly riveting and memorable songs in the past. Overall, this song just does not have the oomph needed to make it outstanding. Yet I think it has just narrowly escaped from being classified as a skip-worthy song, so give it a chance and perhaps you may have a different opinion of it. The remix to this song is below average and I feel this was unnecessarily included in the album in order to fill some kind of void. If I was compelled to choose between the original and remix version to Rani Tu Mein Raja,' I would instinctively go for the original as it is much better. Therefore, give the remix a miss!

Next up we have Po Po, performed by Vikas Bhalia, Aman Trikha and Reshammiya. The song has likable Punjabi elements to it and you can hear the dhol drums buzzing in your ear. A good effort has actually been made with this particular track and it is quite catchy. This is despite the annoying "Po, Po, Po, Po, Po" routine which you hear in the song. You will know what I am talking about when you listen to it. In my view, although it is not one of the best songs in the album give this one a listen anyway.

Tu Kamaal Di Kurti follows, with vocals from Vineet Singh and Mamta Sharma. The song is decent and the culture of Punjab is manifested throughout. The performances by Singh and Sharma are very good and Singh especially does not fail to disappoint. This is perhaps one of the best tracks in the album and I can imagine this being played at a wedding, festival or another type of Asian function. A song which perhaps may put you in a positive mood!

Finally the album concludes with the song Yeh Jo Halki Halki Khumariya, another one performed by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. I was waiting for at least one song to dub as the ultimate highlight of this soundtrack and this is the one! The song is breath-taking to listen to and Rahat gives a very eloquent performance. This definitely makes up for the average Bichdann.' I love that Sajid-Wajid has allowed classical Indian music to clash with rock and roll music in this particular track. This gives it authenticity and it makes you want to listen to it again and again! The song also has great and meaningful lyrics, which makes it even more pleasurable to listen to. This is most certainly the best song in the album so do listen to it and you may be left feeling very impressed!

To close this review with my overall opinions of the Son of Sardaar soundtrack, I should say that I genuinely had high expectations for this one before having listened to it. Now that I have been fully exposed to all the tracks in the album, I found most of them to be weak and not very creative. Therefore, it can be deemed as an unfulfilling soundtrack which will leave you very disappointed. I really thought this album would be one of Reshammiya's best works but unfortunately it is not. In my opinion, Yeh Jo Halki Halki Khumariya' and Tu Kamaal Di Kurti' are the best songs in the album, with Po, Po' and the title song Son of Sardaar' being listenable compositions. As for the rest of the tracks in the album, they are just boring to listen to. Overall, I think it is an album which will not have a massive influence on Bollywood fans and definitely not one of the best to have emerged this year. I only hope that the film itself will make up for its bland soundtrack when it releases on 13 November 2012.

English Vinglish Movie Review:Bollywood News - FamousCelebrityPicture.com

0

English Vinglish is Sridevi's return to the golden screen as leading lady. It is directed by debutant director Gauri Shinde and produced by R. Balki (Cheeni Kum, Paa). English Vinglish was premiered at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival, where Sridevi's performance drew a standing ovation and critical acclaim. So is this the comeback film of the year? Do R.Balki and Gauri Shinde deliver? Does English Vinglish live up to all the festival hype? Read on to find out

Firstly a bit about the story and without giving too much away, you should all be aware by now that it is about a mother and wife, Shashi, played by Sridevi and her quest to learn English. You automatically expect many laughs and stereotypes along the way. However, English Vinglish is far deeper than that. Inspired by the director's own mother's experience, the film is about Shashi's journey, her insecurities, her challenges, her determination and her liberation.

After a 15 year hiatus and still remembered fondly for her last powerful performance in Judaai opposite Anil Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar, Sridevi ruled the late 80s and early 90s. After watching English Vinglish, you will thoroughly welcome her return. At 49 years old Sridevi still has it! Unlike her on and off screen, glamorous avatar, here she is presented as a simple down to earth mother. Her portrayal of Sashi is sensitive and uplifting, with Sridevi really managing to get under the skin of the character. Not once do you associate her with any of her previous roles or persona. As far as comebacks go, in comparison to Madhuri Dixit's comeback (Aaja Nachle) and Karishma Kapoor (Dangerous Ishhq), this is by far the best comeback vehicle : an author backed role, in a beautifully crafted film, which not only does justice to the actress herself, but also her fans.

All credit goes to R. Balki and Gauri Shinde. In line with Cheeni Kum and Paa, English Vinglish is as beautifully crafted as the earlier two films. All three films deal with poignant issues, yet present them with a near perfect balance of comedy, drama and emotion. You will laugh along with the characters and you will also be emotional with them, which draws you closer to the narrative and in this case Shashi's journey. Here full credit has to go to Gauri Shinde, who also wrote the story and screenplay. Without being too preachy, or overdramatised, as mentioned the narrative is perfectly balanced. With only a 2 hour and 10 minute running time, the editing is crisp and credit here has to go the Hamanti Sarkar. What is quite a simple and universal concept was written and edited so well, that it provided so many extra layers to the film.

This brings us back to the central concept of the film. Rarely do you get a film which can cater for such a cross section of society, without falling into any particular genre. Struggling in a foreign country to your own and with a language which is not your first, is something which is identifiable by so many. This is a film which you can watch with your parents and with your children. It is a film which is very Indian at heart, but so global in it's reach and one hopes it will find an equally global audience.

Gauri Shinde shines in her directorial debut. With a diploma in filmmaking from the New York Film Academy, she displays a fine control of her filmmaking craft, from the script, to drawing excellent performances from her cast, to the look and feel of the film. Unlike many of the Bollywood films shot in New York and abroad generally, Gauri manages to capture real middle-class, immigrant, diaspora life in New York. Further, her characters and dialogues are real and unlike the cliches we have become accustomed to.

A special mention of the guest appearance and music. Amitabh Bachchan is an absolute delight to watch in a brief, but very comical appearance. I would rather see him in a dozen similar guest appearances like this, than the many average films he is often misused in. As for the music Amit Trivedi (Dev D, Udaan, Aisha) does a fantastic job. With no real scope for lip-synced songs, he does a marvellous job with the upbeat Manhattan', which really captures the beat of the city. The uplifting title track English Vinglish' and the fun Navrai Majhi'.

Overall an extremely praiseworthy film. Excellent performances, especially from Sridevi. A beautifully crafted film. One for the entire family and universal audiences. Easily one of the best films of the year! To the team of English Vinglish: encore, encore!

The 60-year-old actor : who portrays the lead character Bryan Mills in both instalments of the film - thinks one follow-up will be enough and does not believe it will be made into a trilogy.

Asked if there would be a 'Taken 3′, he said: "I don't think so. No, I think we're finished, that's it. Mind you, I thought we were finished with the first one."

He added to movie website Den of Geek: "We were all pleasantly surprised, because the film came out in France first, and it was reasonably successful. And then the next territory we opened in was South Korea, and it was phenomenally successful. And then you could download it on yourcomputer.

"I know that because my nephews in Ireland and England were calling me up and saying, 'Yeah, we saw your movie.'

I said, 'Which one?', and they said, 'Taken'. I said, 'You couldn't have done. It hasn't opened yet.' 'Uh, we saw it on the computer.'

"And I thought, that's the end of that. It's finished, you know? But Fox Studios in America took it in January 2009 and did this phenomenal PR job."
