Eva Huang Shengyi Biography:
Eva Huang Shengyi was born in an educated family; her father is a university professor, while her mother a newspaper editor. Eva’s parents didn’t want her to pursue an entertainment career, but gave her full support after Eva insisted on choosing her path.

After graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 2001, Eva starred in a couple of low budget TV dramas.

Eva Huang got her breakthrough in 2003 when she was selected by superstar Stephen Chow (周星驰) to star as the leading actress in movie “Kungfu Hustle.”

Kungfu Hustle was showed in 2004 and was a huge box-office success. Eva however didn’t manage to show much of her talent in the movie, starring as a mute and appeared less than 10 minutes in the movie.

Eva Huang gained more press coverage later on when she was caught with the legal fight with Stephen’s agency. Eva was sued for accepting jobs on her own (thus breach of contract) but Eva defended her case citing that she was misled into signing her contract and was not properly taken care of.

Many had thought that it’s the end of Eva’s entertainment career, but she fought hard and getting more exposures in commercials and some TV dramas. Her bravery and independence has won the hearts of many of her fans, and she is regarded as one of the most popular China artist these days.

Eva’s legal case with her (former) agency was finally settled in early 2007 in Eva’s favor. Some reports have suggested that Eva had to pay 6 million RMB (~USD1-1.5 million) to settle the case, but it was denied by Eva.

Eva Huang has just inked her recording deal on her 24th birthday (Feb 11) and is expected to release her debut album in mid 2007.

It’s amazing to see a lady with not much profile achieving her popularity, and she can only get better and more popular.

Slumdog Millionaire is 'Triumph' for independent film-makers and 'Angel' for its stars

0

Produced for $15 million by Britain’s Film4 and Celador Films, “Slumdog Millionaire” has taken $163 million at the worldwide box office with predictions of up to and over $200 million since the film’s Oscar success on Sunday. For those who gambled on the project it means huge profit margins for producers and distributors. Some of those returns are being set up as trust funds for two Indian children who starred in the film by director Danny Boyle and the producers.

For independent filmmakers, high profit margins are good news in an industry that rarely takes risks. "These films are important because they defy conventional wisdom and show that someone can do something completely original and succeed, when so much of the movie industry has been commoditized, " said a Fox Searchlight exec.

Heidi Klum Is More Fun on Top Model Than Tyra Banks

Heidi KlumSaks just dropped Victoria Beckham’s not-posh-enough denimwear, after the spicy designer sold her upscale line exclusively to Bergdorf. Iconic International Herald Tribune fashion editor Suzy Menkes is the surprise (no longer) guest judge for Project Runway’s season-finale final show, and models pretended to eat at the Waverly Inn, along with Tommy Hilfiger, David Spade, Claire Danes, and an attached-to-his-cell Harvey Weinstein, while Mickey Rourke hung out with Leonardo DiCaprio following Cynthia Rowley’s after-party at GoldBar. But unless Leo converts to Judaism, he can’t marry his supermodel girlfriend, Bar Refaell. Heidi Klum pole-danced with her Germany’s Next Top Model contestants. Glad to hear those Guitar Hero moves are coming in handy.

Obama’s primary pick for Health and Human Services secretary, the thrifty Kansas governor, Kathleen Sebelius, returns clothes to Dillard’s after wearing them. In other budget-friendly news, the White House’s new decorator, L.A. designer-to-the-stars Michael Smith, hosted a luncheon at the Four Seasons Bar Room to honor Social Secretary Desirée Rogers. The duo schmoozed with Barbara Walters and magazine bigwigs like Town & Country’s Pamela Fiore and W’s James Reginato. And our new president is addicted to his CrackBerry too, but not for its extensive list of contacts. He can’t tear himself away from the mobile game BrickBreaker.

Gwyneth Paltrow did some dancing to lift rocker hubbie Chris Martin’s spirits after Coldplay’s quadruple loss at the Brit Awards, and Kanye hit up Rose Bar and Bryant Park with his latest love, Amber Rose, who’s done some nude modeling, while Cindy Adams asked about Kate Winslet’s nude scenes. Also, Portia de Rossi will do whatever it takes to get pregnant.

Nora Ephron kvells about her days at the New York Post and Julia & Julia, her latest film starring Meryl Streep, while Gloria Steinem has no pity for pouting i-bankers, saying they “just move money around.” SNL producer Lorne Michaels is still up for poking fun at Paterson, even though the gov finds Fred Armisen’s impersonations offensive to blind people. VH1 execs are launching a show about sex addiction, Amy Sacco is the latest to land a Bravo reality series, and Michael Strahan is in negotiations to star in his own Fox sitcom. Kung-fu master Jackie Chan’s new flick, Shinkjuku Incident, is too violent for Chinese audiences.

Big B teams up with SRK

0

Amitabh, Big BIn the past, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan starred in many films together. Their combination in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham was liked by the audience the most but after that they did not sign any new project together due to personal and professional reasons. But soon we can see the two powerful superstars sharing screen space once again. Choreographer turned filmmaker Farah Khan is bringing the two stars again in her upcoming flick ‘Happy New Year’, the project which was on hold for long.

Farah is reworking on the script which she actually zeroed much before 'Om Shanti Om' but due to Big B’s ill health and Shahrukh’s prior appointment, the film stopped at the pre-production stage. Now she is thinking to re-open the scrpit and for that she is in talk with Big B and Shahrukh to get their suitable dates. News is that Amitabh has already given dates for the film and Shahrukh is expected to give his dates soon.

Surely, their teaming up will put all the speculations of Shahrukh-Amitabh’s on-going tussle on rest. Amitabh even visited Shahrukh at Mannat after he had undergone shoulder surgery.

Abhishek and Delhi 6 become 'butt of ridicule'

0

AbhishekIt has started all over again, i.e. SMS jokes being floated around the country after the release of a film. Of course the intensity, volume and composition is much higher when a film is being disliked and the same is happening in case of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's latest release Delhi 6 which is fast becoming a butt of joke.

Sample these quick one liners that are currently making the rounds:

- A far better title would have been 'Silly Six'
- Six has gone for a Sixer

It all started with Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag when dozens of Ramu bashing, Aag bashing, Big B bashing and 'everything- associated-with-the-film' bashing jokes started making the rounds.

So much so that after a while, Ramu himself was seen smiling at the jokes and even became an active participant once he moved on to newer projects (check his blogs and you would know that the man who is having most fun at the expense of Aag is Ramu himself!)

Wonder whether Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra would be seen smiling when he hears this one:

- We thought that he was the Rang De man and he turned out to be the Aks man!

Going back in time, the trend picked up after Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag and each subsequent disaster was ripped in and out by people who had seen the film and even those who hadn't seen it (Ramu had once commented that if only the originators of all the negative word of mouth would have actually paid for the ticket and seen the film in theaters, his Aag may have actually become a hit due to sheer volumes)!

Anyways, so the film that seemed to be 'targeted' henceforth were mega debacles like Saawariya, Tashan, Love Story 2050, Drona and very recently Chandni Chowk To China.

However, it seems that the worst was reserved for Delhi 6, as can be seen from the array of SMSs that started floating around the moment press and premier shows of the film came to an end on Thursday night.

So perplexed was the audience with the film that one of the first SMSs to arrive read as:

- A documentary on the city of Delhi can be shot in 3 days for 35000 rupees. Wonder why it took Mr. Mehra 3 years and 35 crore rupees?

Well, some may say that the film was meant for a class audience, it had a subtext to it, there was a layered narrative, one has to be seen twice to appreciate it's depth etc. etc. etc. However, audience doesn't seem to be in a mood to really buy the logic. No wonder, there is humor abound in the 'complex' theory, as conveyed by the following SMS:

- BREAKING NEWS. Rakeysh Mehra is now saying that you first have to see Delhi 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 to understand the point of 6, which he is promising to make now since 6 tanked. He can then re-release 6 after those!

Of course, it is too early to say if the film has tanked or whether it is managing to keep its head above the water at least. However, one can't ignore some brilliant observation that comes in the form of following SMS which is simply priceless:

- The competition is heating up. If Dad gave Aag, son gave Drona. Pa gave Aks so not to be left behind, laadla bitwa now gives 'F#¤KS'!

With such all around negativity dominating weekend entertainment for those who love their mobiles, one wonders what the general reaction of audience would be as the week progresses.

The weekend collections should be able to tell the tale while the dreaded weekdays would indicate whether the film does carry some pull and indeed manages to find a certain segment of audience which still wishes to give this film a chance.

There are doubts though, as conveyed by this following piece of SMS writing:

- Forget 'monkey man', there is no audience man!
