Ben Affleck and friends party for peace

This Wednesday, following the V-Day awareness, the Congo cause got even more celeb support from Ben Affleck. Children Mending Hearts organized the event to honor international medical corps for their hard work in supporting the abused women and children in the DRC.

The event honored advocates, made some noise for the cause, and auctioned off some sweet prizes like private dinners cooked by star chefs. Other stars who attended the event include Alyssa Milano, Anderson Cooper, Andie MacDowell, Hank Azaria, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and Joel Madden. The night was capped off by a performance by Sheryl Crow. These CGG favorites have all been very active in the cause.

Children Mending Hearts is an organization that began a global arts exchange between at-risk children in the US and abroad. They also work to educate and raise awareness about the conflict in the Congo which has been going on for 20 years and has taken 5.4 million lives.

Ben has been a long time advocate for taking action in the Congo. But he was there to honor another Congo hero, Anderson Cooper, for his work bringing attention to war-ravaged regions of Africa.

Cooper sent Ben some kind words of his own, saying. "He's become an important advocate in informing Americans about the situation in Congo," Cooper said of the actor-director to applause, adding, "He deserves a lot of credit for that."

The stars also got the chance to voice their opinion on wonderwall.com's twitter page. Each celeb who wrote something on the page raised even more funds for the cause.

Entourage-bombshell Emmanuelle Chriqui took the time to voice her concern for women in the area, "I'm here because the Congo is the most dangerous place in the world for women and girls to be." It's true, the widespread use of rape and sexual violence against women and children as a tactic of war in the Congo is the worst the world has ever seen.
