Supermodel, super mom – is she super human? Not really, says Doutzen Kroes, blond phenom and Victoria’s Secret Angel – she just seems that way. “Maybe it has to do with the fact that I became a mom - because you feel like a mom, you don’t (always) feel like a bombshell.”
She could have fooled us. Kroes was glowing and relaxed in the high-gloss Victoria’s Secret store in Toronto’s Eaton Centre Tuesday, taking numerous interviews without pause.
The 26-year-old Dutch supermodel was in Canada promoting the lingerie label’s miraculous swimwear and intimates collection (famous for adding two cup sizes), as part of the company’s Bombshell Summer Tour.
Beauties are travelling across the U.S. and Canada in May and June to give signings and pass on sexy tips to fans. With flowing waves of thick blond hair surrounding the blue-eyed model’s angelic face, Toronto scored perhaps the most “bombshell” of them all.
Kroes is the Angel with the body women really want: toned, healthy and oh-so-curvy. In person, she looks like the kind of superhero who could nail a marathon in the morning (she’s a runner and was a speed skater prior to modelling) and turn heads at a VIP party later that night.
But there’s definitely days when even a supermodel doesn’t feel sexy, she says. Those times, she’ll flip a switch in her mind to turn into her glowing persona – it helps to play dress up, too. “I like to go home and put on makeup and put on my heels,” she says.
“Especially because I just had a baby…when you have the time to go out, it’s fun. I really take my time and I enjoy it.”

Kroes made headlines this spring for giving birth to son Phyllon in January, and going back to work just eight weeks later – for a beach photo shoot, no less. She credits her form to intense workouts like running and jump rope, and practiced Pilates and yoga during her pregnancy.
Kroes also breastfeeds (which can burn up to 500 calories per day) and says she’s allowed herself to take the time to get her body back into shape. She says women can be too hard on themselves when it comes to losing baby weight, “You can’t expect to bounce back right away.”
With a home base out of New York, but work that takes her all over the world (she was recently spotted at the Cannes International Film Festival) and a breastfeeding baby at home, Kroes admits she needs a break now and again to stay centered.

“When I’m working a lot, I make sure I have a break for three days, where I just sleep when my baby sleeps. I’m just home and I don’t do anything,” says Kroes.
“You need to re-charge your battery - otherwise I’m losing myself.” Kroes also has a full-time nanny (her best friend since she was 12) to help, but doesn’t stay away from Phyllon for more than two days at a time. For a model highly sought after the world over, Kroes has a calm, humble presence and a down-to-earth perspective.
Her sensibility shines through when she’s asked which is her favourite miraculous bra. “I like the very sexy push-up,” she says, picking up a neon lime bra with a starburst of stones on the underside. “But not in this colour, it’s not my favourite.
I like the nude colour – it’s great for t-shirts.” The bra can also change to criss-cross in the back, she says, which is good for wearing racerbank tops. “You know those tank tops?” Yes. We bought the one you modelled.
