Sonic Youth's Stolen Guitars Found After 13 Years Two guitars stolen from Sonic Youths truck 13 years ago have been found. The band was left devastated on 4 July, 1999 when a vehicle housing its collection of one-of-a-kind modified touring gear, including drums and guitars, was stolen in Orange County, California. The truck was later located in Los Angeles, but the equipment was missing. Fans of the group have helped discover several items from the raid over the years, and guitarist/singer Lee Ranaldo reveals to music website Youthgossip.com that two other pieces have recently been found. He says, "It's kind of wild. After all this time, things are still surfacing thanks to the diligence of fans." One guitar was spotted on auction website eBay.com by a fan in Belgium, and Ronaldo explains, "He wrote saying, Check out this auction. The colour's different, but it definitely looks like your guitar. The serial number matches.'" Another Jazzmaster guitar was discovered in a pawn shop and was found to be a Sonic Youth instrument following an online posting, and Ranaldo hopes the remaining items are returned in the future. He adds, "I'm just so curious as to what ever happened to the rest. It was a massive amount of gear to see only these few guitars come back. I would love to one day know the real story."
