Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

"Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana" is a Punjabi tadka film. The milieu, the dialogues and humour is so akin to the region and its people. The setting is authentic and identifiable. It is loaded with eccentric characters, hero's vilayat dream, a don chasing him, wedding planning, subdued romance, underwear jokes, suspense, a funeral, a godwoman, lots of flatulence, brash humour and a crow.

The crux of the story is the frantic search for a much-coveted recipe of a chicken curry, named after its creator. It is also orphan, amoral Omi Khurana's (Kunal Kapoor) journey of romance and self realization.

To escape the wrath of desi don Shanty (Manish Makhija), Omi returns to Punjab from London to once again rob his grandfather, Daarji (Vinod Nagpal). On reaching his village in Punjab, he realizes how his family fortune and everything else has changed over the last 10 years.

Unrepentant and caught between the don and his greed for making a quick buck, Omi is forced to find the recipe of Chicken Khurana by Kehar Singh (Vipin Sharma), a rival restaurant owner.

Kunal Kapoor, in a straight forward performance, is good. For a moment or two, one sees shades of Aamir Khan in him but it passes off as he naturally fits into the skin of his character.

Vinod Nagpal of "Hum Log" fame is natural as ever, portraying his Daarji' part effortlessly. A treat to watch.

The cast, well-supported by Huma Qureshi as Harman, Omi's childhood sweetheart, is realistic and rustically Punju. Jeet, his lovable brother seems like a Rajesh Khanna clone. Seema Kushal as Omi's aunt is endearing. Rajesh Sharma as the uncouth and gross uncle, Titu mama is excellent. Dolly Ahluwalia as the pot smoking god-woman is good, but wasted.

Amit Trivedi's unconventional music score is fine. His compositions are fresh and are devoid of the run-of-the-mill, jarring bhangra beats.

Director Sameer Sharma, writer Sumit Batheja and producer Anurag Kashyap have very effectively showcased a nice romantic film with fine nuances of semi-noir characters. The highlight of this film is realism and the trio present rustic Punjab with great conviction.

Unfortunately the pace of the story telling is lackadaisical. With too many characters and sub-tracks, the screenplay lacks originality. What takes the cake is the denouement; it seems to be a straight lift from the TV show "Sach Ka Saamna". Here, instead of the TV studio, the revelation is done at the Khurana Dhaba.

Also the Bengali song sung by Jeet at the end is probably an obvious attempt at national integration.

While it has all the ingredients for an excellent film, it is not up to the mark. It probably required a stronger, spicier tadka to pep it up.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

QUICK REVIEW of Jab Tak Hai Jaan(page will be updated shortly)

Yash Chopra is renowned for his eternal romantic love stories and Jab Tak Hai Jaan is his most intense romantic film ever. The characters here are arrogant, egoistic and unforgiving. His heroine : if I remember right : has just one scene in a saree. Yet, his magical touch is visible throughout, in every romantic scene in the film.

There are several twists and turns in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, all of which mostly work. Coming to the negatives, the film is lengthy (close to 3 hours) and slow-paced. Also, the music (A.R.Rahman) is one of the weakest for an Yash Chopra film in a long time. It has a few good songs like Challa' and Saans', but pales in comparison to some of the tracks from Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Veer Zaara (arguably the best Hindi album ever).

The performances are very good : Shahrukh Khan, quite obviously, has the meatiest role and does very well. The intensity he brings to the character of Samar in the second half (as the army officer), reminds you of his fabulous performance in Chak De India. As the younger Samar, he is at his charming best. Although he looks a little too old for the young lover-boy that he plays on screen, he looks good with Katrina and the two share excellent chemistry. Watch out for the dance sequence just before the Ishq Shava song, which is followed by one of my favorite scenes in the film : at the railway station where Samar declares his love to Meera.

Anushka Sharma has the smallest role, but makes an impact. Her loud, bubbly and talkative character is quite similar to Geet in Jab We Met. Neetu Singh, Rishi Kapoor and Anupam Kher have one scene each.

Overall, Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a good one-time watch, a modern take on old fashioned love. It's slow-paced and tends to drag in the second half, but the performances (especially SRK and Anushka) more than make up for it. Also, don't be in a hurry to leave the cinema hall. The clippings of Yashji during the closing credits, will make you cry.

Talaash Movie Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

It's been a long wait for an Aamir Khan film.. 35 months after the release of 3 Idiots, Khan returns with Reema Kagti's Talaash, co-written by the writers of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Reema and Zoya Akhtar). The film also features two of the most talented leading ladies in the industry, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji.

Story: Talaash revolves around a mysterious accident of a popular film actor. Police officer Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) heads the investigation team. Devrath (Raj Kumar Yadav) a junior police officer and a stunningly gorgeous sex worker Rosy (Kareena Kapoor), help him solve the mystery.

Talaash is also about Shekhawat's personal life. He is yet to get over his son's tragic death. Blaming himself for the accident, Shekhawat suffers from Insomnia. Leaving his wife Roshni (Rani Mukherji) back home, he spends his nights driving through isolated streets.

Talaash Review

First Half: Talaash begins well, director Reema Kagti takes her own sweet time in establishing the characters and the mystery. The narrative is gripping and absorbing enough to keep you hooked throughout the first half, even though the pace tends to slacken at times. No screen-time is wasted on forced comedy, action or unnecessary item numbers. Every shot has a meaning and takes the story forward. At interval, you don't really know what to expect next.

Second Half: The mystery begins to unfold and from here on, expect the unexpected. The ending is outrageous, something that Indian audience wouldn't expect from a big budget commercial film. While the writers convincingly explain the mystery, you will either end up loving it or walk away ridiculing the climax.

Performances: As a hardened cop who struggles with his own personal issues, Aamir Khan delivers a nuanced performance. Watch out for the scene in the second half when Rani Mukherji confronts him, the pain in his eyes of a father who holds himself responsible for the death of his son and the sea-side sequence with Kareena Kapoor when he breaks down : Aamir is brilliant. Rani Mukherji does her bit as a pained mother. Kareena Kapoor's performance reminds you of her Chameli act. Both actresses don't get enough scope to showcase their acting talent. Nawazuddin Siddiqui makes an impact. Raj Kumar Yadav does well.

Mohanan's camera work is excellent, he captures the Mumbai night in all it's glory. Dialogues by Farhan Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap are good. Ram Sampath's music isn't very catchy, but is situational and well-placed in the film. Jee Le Zaraa is a gem.

Overall, Talaash is a well-directed film with good performances. Most of the film will be loved by the urban audience, but it's the unconventional ending that may not be liked by all.

Khiladi 786 Movie Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

Back in the 90s, the Khiladi' series wasn't a hugely successful franchise, nor was Akshay the superstar' that he is today. With death-defying stunts, over-the-top action and comedy, the Khiladi films catered mainly to the masses. A decade later, Akshay returns with Khiladi 786 also starring Asin, Himesh Reshammiya and Mithun Chakraborty. The film is directed by debutante director Ashish R Mohan.

Khiladi 786 Story: There isn't any.

Khiladi 786 Review

As an assistant director for films like All The Best, Sunday and the entire Golmaal series, director Ashish R Mohan, quite obviously, comes from the Rohit Shetty school of film-making. Flying cars, high-octane action sequences, men flying around all over the place, the hero walking and dancing on people's heads.. Khiladi 786 has some of the most exaggerated scenes you'll ever see.

To add to the fun, we have some outrageously funny character names : Akshay is Bahattar Singh (72 Singh), his father is Sattar Singh (70 Singh) and his uncle is Ikhatthar Singh (71 Singh). There is a underworld don named TTT : Tatya Tukaram Tendulkar!!

It's that sort of film.. you have to leave your brains back at home and enjoy the harmless fun. The film is fast-paced and has some genuinely funny moments. In a short special appearance, Johnny Lever brings the house down with his gag on Arvind Kejriwal and Kambli : Tendulkar.

The songs in the film remind you of David Dhawan films in the 90s. An introduction song right at the beginning, one item number, a song when the hero first looks at the heroines photo, a couple of songs while they day-dream. In short, about 5-6 unnecessary songs.. a must for massy-films.

Akshay Kumar plays his part well. Much like his comic-timing, Akshay's style and body language while performing the action sequences is unmatched in the industry. Asin looks beautiful. A non-actor like Himesh Reshammiya is wasting his time trying too hard to act. Mukesh Tiwari is very good. Mukesh Tiwari as Himesh's sidekick is brilliant. Mithun Chakraborty excels in a role that's similar to Housefull 2. Raj Babbar is good. Sadly, Mukesh Rishi who makes a comeback after a long time doesn't have too many dialogues.

Overall, Khiladi 786 is a one-time watch. A typical masala entertainer : forced action sequences, loud characters, too many songs, storyline without an iota of logic or sense.. the latest Khiladi film has got it all. Love such films? Enjoyed watching Ready/Son Of Sardar/Bol Bachchan? Go ahead, book your Khiladi 786 tickets now! The rest, can skip this.

Rating:

Other notes and box office: I enjoyed both Rowdy Rathore and Housefull 2 a lot more than Khiladi 786. The response at a multiplex in Mumbai was mixed, 50-60% of the audience were thoroughly enjoying the film. The rest were silent, a few walked out in between. So.. Khiladi 786 will not be universally successful like the two other Akshay Kumar films this year. It will work big time at mass-centres, but business at big city multiplexes will drop Monday onwards.

Dabangg 2 Android App Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

The official app of Arbaaz Khan's Dabangg 2 is out! While the iPhone/iPad app is expected to be out in the App Store soon, the makers have released the Android version in the Google Play Store.

The free-for-download app, downloaded pretty quickly (Size: 20MB) on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (the device we used for testing). The first time you open up the application, you'd need to register with your mobile no and email address. The app would then send a verification code via SMS.

Dabangg 2 Android app

Why the app is worth downloading..
The Android app has almost every detail that you need to know about Khan's upcoming Christmas release Cast and Crew complete with the actors biography and details about the character that he/she plays in the film. Videos, HD Wallpapers, behind the scenes footage, latest news, on the sets.. the app has got it all.
All the song promos that have been released so far are included. You'd need to be connected to the internet to watch the videos, as the app takes you to the built-in Youtube application.
The Dabangg 2 app also lets you find nearby theatres and book tickets online. Although currently it loads a blank page, tickets should be available as soon as the advance booking opens in theatres.
Best of all.. its FREE and given it's small size even users with 2G speeds should be able to download it.

Negatives
Music not included: Recently, quite a few movie apps released with the entire music album. Unfortunately, you can't listen to full songs here.
The App only works in Portrait mode (Landscape mode is disabled). Also, the back' button on Android devices is only used to quit the application, so in-app navigation is a little difficult.
For a high-budget Bollywood film, that is expected to be one of the year's biggest hits, it's a pity that the makers have included Google ads at the bottom of every page.

Overall, it's a must-download for Salman Khan fans. The app has got plenty of D2 content to keep you entertained. The only missing feature is the music album.

Rating:

Update: Playing around the app a little more, there are quite a few bugs that will hopefully get fixed soon. The How to use' option for wallpapers, displays instructions for the iPhone and not Android devices. Also, Set as Wallpaper' doesn't work. We have emailed the tech team regarding this.

Dabangg 2 Movie Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

The last release of the year, Dabangg 2 starring Salman Khan as the iconic Chulbul Robinhood' Pandey. The makers have retained almost all the characters from the original : Sonakshi Sinha plays Rajo, Arbaaz Khan is Makkhi, Vinod Khanna is Chulbul's father Prajapati Pandey. Popular side characters like Cheddhi Singh and the baddie who's mobile rings at the wrong time, is also a part of the sequel.

The new additions are Prakash Raj who plays the villain, Deepak Dobriyal and a few others. Malaika Arora Khan returns as Munni, while Kareena Kapoor has a sexy item song titled Fevicol Se'.

So.. is Dabangg 2 double the fun? Is it better than the original? Let's find out!

Dabangg 2 Review

For a country that unites to celebrate the super-stardom of Salman Khan, reviewing a film like Dabangg 2 is futile. In the last couple of years, an average of two Salman movies have released every year. While critics have thrashed almost all his films, people across the country have flocked to theatres to watch the film first-day-first-show.

With his fan-following and craze at it's absolute peak, Salman Khan today is beyond the script, director, banner and the film itself.

Dabangg 2 has a wafer-thin plot, too many songs and an overdose of action. Two scenes of Chulbul Pandey's antics is following by an action sequence and a song : this is repeated in the same order throughout the film. The screenplay and the story has been written to accomodate all the masala ingredients. Arbaaz Khan, who makes his directorial debut, retains every element that made Dabangg a super-success.

Despite all it's flaws and outdated done-to-death storyline, what makes Dabangg 2 entertaining is Salman Khan. With his unique style of dialogue delivery and larger-than-life presence, Khan is at his charismatic best as Chulbul Pandey. His post-marriage romantic scenes with Sonakshi Sinha are well-executed.

For me, the biggest disappointment was Prakash Raj. He has limited screen time and his character doesn't really give him enough scope to showcase his acting talent. Another talented actor Deepak Dobriyal is wasted too. The other actors, whether it is Arbaaz Khan, Sonakshi Sinha or Vinod Khanna, all get relegated to the back seat. Mahie Gill has a two minute role.

The music is good : Dagabaaz Re, Dabangg Reloaded and Pandeyji Seeti are chartbusters. Watching the film on a single screen is an experience in itself, as the entire theatre went bonkers for Kareena Kapoor's Fevicol Se item number! The well-executed action sequences will work big time with the masses.

Overall, Dabangg 2 is Salman Khan's show all the way. A Christmas treat to his die-hard fans. The rest.. if you loved the first film, you'll enjoy watching the sequel. At the box office, the film has already opened to a great response. The occupancy is high, despite the fact that the film released on a record number of screens.

Rating: Sure shot Blockbuster

Table No 21 Movie Review ? Subhash K Jha - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

The last 30 minutes of this gripping thriller has a life of its own. In fact, the end-game is so stunning and so overpowering in its message, that it makes us overlook the ingrained improbability of the rest of the film.

Not that "Table No.21″ (and wait till you figure out why and how the film gets its title!) doesn't work in its totality. It does. It's a surprisingly good, almost-kickass way to start your movie-going in 2013. A goodlooking original thriller shot in eye-catching Fiji, "Table No.21″ opens with a rather ambitious starry-eyed couple landing in Fiji to spend a prize holiday in the lap of luxury.

Director Aditya Dutta gets the tonality of the 'good life' right. The narrative then weaves itself into a rather bewildering and bizarre labyrinth, that is partly a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the preposterous aspirations of reality game-shows where ludicrous thresholds of morality are crossed for high-end rewards, and partly a comment on what lengths young people would go to for their designer dreams.

Almost all through the game, we sense there's more to millionaire Paresh Rawal's game plan than just millions of hits on the internet that keeps him and the narration drooling till the end. The film draws its reasonable power and energy from its mix of the playful and the somber. The two moods co-mingle in rewarding waves of episodic overtures where one by one, and the holidaying couple are swept into a vortex of horrific self-exploration.

The screenplay, written by as many as three writers (Sheershak Anand, Abhijeet Deshpande and Shantanu Ray Chibber) exudes an uncompromising freshness of approach. The last 30 to 35 minutes of the film is where the meat of the matter materialises in a moving flourish of conscientiousness. It is only towards the end that we recognise the actual demons that haunt the gamely tone of the rest of the film.

Rajeev Khandelwal is an actor who chooses unusual projects. His repertoire from "Aamir" to "Soundtrack" to "Shaitaan" and now "Table No.21″ shows the mind of an actor in pursuit of excellence.

Paresh Rawal's dependability as a performer of unpredictable skills never lets a script down. Here he is partly a slime-ball, party a screwball and finally a grieving angry father. Watch out for the innocent young Druv Ganesh as Rawal's son. As a victim of college ragging, his eyes will haunt your for a long time after the film is over.

"Table No.21″ is a surprise. The taut thriller shot on a scenic location constantly keeps a step ahead of the audience. This is an enjoyable and eventually disturbing riches-to-ragging story to start off the year.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

Very few filmmakers even dare to make the kind of films that Vishal Bhardwaj is known for. Dark, rustic, delectable with hardly any commercial value (his most acclaimed work Omkara, a film that won several awards, was a commercial failure). Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is yet another film that has the multi-talented director's unmistakable stamp over every frame.

Starring Imran Khan, Anushka Sharma, Pankaj Kapoor, Shabana Azmi and Arya Babbar, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola has Bhardwaj playing five roles : director, producer, music composer, singer and writer!

Story: The movie is set in the rustic surroundings of Mandola, a small village in Haryana. It's about Harry Mandola (Pankaj Kapoor), a wealthy businessman and an alcohol addict. His driver-cum-friend Matru (Imran Khan), a lawyer who returns to his village to take up his family profession of serving the Mandol a family, is in love with Bijlee (Anushka Sharma), who is engaged to Badal (Arya Babbar), son of a powerful politician Chaudhari Devi (Shabana Azmi). Filled with twists, turns and absolute madness, the film is a tale on the lives of Matru, Bijlee and Mandola.

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola Review

Unlike some of Vishal's previous few films, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is entertaining, well-paced and has a few hilarious sequences. It's a romantic comedy, political satire, musical, sometimes a documentary on alcohol consumption.. all mixed into one 2 hour 20 min package. Oh and there is a bit of chemical locha too, as Harry Mandola can see a pink buffalo (Gulabi Bhains) as soon as he decides to quit drinking.

While the film is quite hatke', imaginative and has Bhardwaj's distinctly different way of story-telling as it's plus points, the problem with Matru lies in it's script : the film suffers from being way too predictable, goes absolutely haywire post-interval and the dialogue sometimes spoken in local dialect is a little too difficult to follow.

It's fascinating how Bhardwaj manages to extract brilliant performances out of his actors. Someone like Imran Khan, who is not known for his on-screen histrionics, delivers his best performance to date. But Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola belongs to Pankaj Kapoor, who proves yet again that he is one of the very best actors in the country. He is simply brilliant as Mandola, a man suffering from alcoholic disorder. Anushka Sharma does well. Arya Babbar is good. Shabana Azmi is effective in a negative role.

The music, composed by Bhardwaj, goes well with the film. The camera work is impressive.

Overall, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mondala is Bhardwaj's most commercial film to date. It isn't his best work, far from it. But the film has his moments, the north Indian audience will understand and enjoy it a little more. Pankaj Kapoor's flawless performance itself is worth the price of your ticket.

Do post your reviews of Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola in the comments section below. We'd love to know what you think!

Special Chabbis Music Review (Special 26) - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

Special Chabbis is a special movie in more ways than one. It is the first release of 2013 featuring one of the Top 5 stars in the country. It's the second directorial venture of Neeraj Pandey after the highly appreciated A Wednesday'.

Akshay Kumar, who is doing a serious drama film as the lead protagonist after a long time, will be seen opposite southern siren Kajal Agarwal. The music of the movie has been composed by National Award winning music director M.M.Kreem with one guest composition from Himesh Reshammiya. M.M.Kreem has done some outstanding work in his earlier Hindi movies Criminal, Rog, Jism, Sur, Saaya and Paheli.

Let us hear what the music album has in store for us:

Listen to all the songs of Special 26! Jukebox.

Tujh Sang Lagee: The album opens with soulful Tujh Sang Lagee' sung beautifully by K.K. and supported by M.M. Kreem himself. If you have any interest in sufi /qawalli music then you will not be able to contain your emotions listening to this wonderful track. The lyrics by Irshad are touching to say the least. The serene Sufi tune has been blended elegantly into qawali mode with feel good Hindustani arrangements, good lyrics and great singing by KK. Good start. (3/5)

Gore Mukhde Pe Zulfaan Di Chaavan: It seems Himesh Reshammiya is in love with Punjabi songs these days. After giving some Punjabi chartbusters in Son of Sardaar and Khiladi 786, he is back with yet another Punjabi dance number as a guest composer. Shreya Ghoshal is brilliant as usual and steals the show. Male vocals by Aman Triikha, Shabab Sabri and lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed are average.(2.5/5)

Kaun Mera: Kaun Mera appears in three different versions in the album : Love Ballad, Soft Rock and Unplugged version. Love Ballad is sung by Chitra, Soft Rock Male version by Papon and unplugged by Sunidhi Chauhan. It's a very short, effortless yet mesmerizing composition by M.M. Kreem. Lyrics are meaningful. (3/5)

Mujh Mein Tu: Contestant of Sony TV singing reality shows and upcoming playback singer Keerthi Sagathia gets a chance to sing this sad number. Lyrics go well with the song tempo. There is another version to this song sung by M.M Kreem himself with slow orchestra background. (2.5/5)

Dhar Pakad: Dharpakad is highly situational song with quirky and comical lyrics representing the team of Special Chabbis. Bappi Lahiri does well with his energetic vocals. The song's video is already out and it is and introduction to the life and work of team. (2.5/5)

Rating:

As an music album, Special Chabbis lacks repeat value; but songs are highly situational and will gain momentum once the song promos are released. M.M. Kreem compositions are not meant to be for the masses and DJs as they are designed to adapt to this concept from the real-life daring heist dated March 19, 1987. Music can become popular if the film does well at the box office after its theatrical release on Feb 08, 2013.

Race 2 Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

Race 2 Movie Review by film critic and trade analyst Joginder Tuteja.

Unpredictable : This is the very factor that defines the core essence of Race as a brand. This is what made the original such an enticing affair and this is exactly what one expects from the sequel as well. Well, you aren't disappointed at all as far as the first half of the film is concerned. However as the film proceeds after a terrific kickstart, you realise that the narrative starts focusing more on set-piece action sequences and enthralling locales even as the focus on drama starts getting diluted. That turns out to be the undoing of the film which could have covered a much greater distance that it eventually does.

Race 2 Movie Review

The film starts in true blue Abbas-Mustan style. Twists after twists fill the proceedings as you try to decipher who is the one who is wrong and who has been wronged. The sequence at the casino where Saif meets a casino owner (Rajesh Khattar) and explains his plan, the game of double cross being played, the mind games played between Saif, John and Deepika, the secret being unveiled about Jacqueline Fernandes, inclusion of Anil Kapoor and Ameesha Patel into the plan, journey down the memory lane featuring Bipasha Basu, the motive behind each of the players coming together in this race of money and death : just about everything works in the film's favour.

In fact this part of the film is as per Abbas Mustan template and moves at a feverish pace. Despite the fact that you are prepared for the unpredictability, the twists and turns surprise and at places even shock you. In fact the interval point of the film gears you to check what's in store during the second half of the film.

However this is where the film gets into a different territory altogether. Just like it had happened in case of 'Don 2′ where focus had shifted to a heist instead of the escapades of the man himself, even Race 2 moves into the 'museum mein chori' episode. Frankly, after witnessing many a heist thrillers from the West, this one sounds like an unnecessary distraction. Moreover with the entire premise being set so well, you want to see Saif and John take on each other instead of the former carrying out a heist and latter fighting it out in the ring.

Race 2 Review

That doesn't mean the sequences aren't well done. In fact you do munch your popcorn as the sequences unfold. However the edge of the seat thrilling effect that the film had promised at the very onset isn't as prominent this time around. Moreover the pre-climax, when all actors come together in a secluded spot, is way too predictable to be taken seriously. As for the climax set in an aircraft, one still waits for the day when a Bollywood flick would actually get it right in the VFX department.

What the film still succeeds in doing is keep your attention alive right through it's narrative and not quite turning into a boring outing, even in the second half. Moreover with cinematography being top notch, locations eye catchy, background music excellent and music peppy, there is a cinematic value that Race 2 comes up with which makes it a good big screen watch.

Amongst actors, it is clear that the brief given to each and every one of them was to play it cool. So while John Abraham looks as good as ever with his mannerisms being cool enough to suit the film's requirement, Saif Ali Khan plays it right with a straight face and clearly seems to be having fun. Surprisingly Deepika Padukone has a relatively minor role to play. However she looks stunning in each and every frame that she appears. Jacqueline has a bigger part to play and she does it well while looking her best. Anil Kapoor and Ameesha do bring in smiles whenever they come on screen though one does feel that there should have been more of the veteran actor. Rajesh Khattar is convincing in his part while Aditya Pancholi in a guest appearance is solid as well.

Overall, Race 2 turns out to be a film which pretty much fits into the franchise template and doesn't intend at digressing from that. While that is good from the core thought perspective, one can clearly sense that the kind of water tight treatment that Race had boasted of is missing in the sequel. Though it is fun for a good part of it, one just hunts for that extra zing that could have turned it into an enthralling affair, a trait that had made Race a much watch outing.

Akaash Vani Movie Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

Akaash Vani Review by movie critic and trade analyst Joginder Tuteja.
Movie Review: Akaash Vani (2013)
Cast: Kartik Tiwari, Nushrat Bharucha
Director: Luv Ranjan
Music Director: Hitesh Sonik
Runtime: 149 minutes

One thing that director Luv Ranjan does in telling this tale of Akaash and Vani is that he leaves behind the baggage of his last Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Frankly, quite a few filmmakers have time and again being tempted to bring back the winning formula. In order to cash in on the winning formula, there have been instances when directors have repeated their past work. However Luv avoids doing that and takes a risk in following an altogether different path with his second flick. Though the journey isn't as smooth as before, at least there has been an attempt which is worth mentioning.

Akaash Vani Movie Review

Coming together of two strangers, their friendship, crush, love, promises of being together, a desire for a dreamy journey ahead : all of this and more forms a breezy ride, not just for Akaash and Vani but also audience. Frankly, Luv does quite well in establishing his characters and the situations are truly real life. Though these are different (sweet) from the kind (outrageous) that one had seen in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, one can clearly sense the director's touch. The game is pretty much set and one looks forward to the set and match soon.

45 minutes into the film, the graph changes though. From light hearted moments, it is drama that takes over and by the time the film reaches the interval point and then proceeds ahead into the second half, the situations turn dark. In fact a few scenes turn out to be a little too discomforting and though one can see that Luv has managed to hold audience attention, you want sunshine to return into the lives of the lead protagonists.

This is where the film takes a dip since there is no respite whatsoever and though as audience you expect smiles to ruturn on screen, none of that really happens. Moreover, the film becomes entirely Nushrat centric (one has to mention that she does extremely well in this highly emotional role) but you do miss the effervescence thag Kartik brings on screen. Really, he goes missing for an extended duration and though it is the demand of the script, you want him to return sooner than later.

Once that happens, you expect the film to pick on steam. However the pace remains constant and the narrative takes it's own time to reach to culmination. Thankfully there are a few sweet moments that return on screen which bring back an occasional smile or two. Most memorable of them all is Nushrat and her friends going down the memory lane and revisiting the college times. Some of them indeed bring a lump in the throat and so does the one where Kartik and Nushrat sit on the bench at a railway station and break down. Its a beautiful scene where tears do all the talking with not a single word exchanged.

Akaash Vani Review

It is these very moments, primarily in the first 30 minutes of the movie and then intermittently in the second half where the film manages to grab your attention. Later, towards the last 15 minutes of the film, the proceedings pick up pace while also leading to a satisfying culmination. You connect with the characters and their emotions and even though the finale could have been euphoric, once can see that Luv had made up his mind not to convey anything in an overtly filmy manner.
In this endeavour of his, Nushrat and Kartik Give him complete support. In an author backed role, Nushrat is in a very good form and well portrays the emotions of a girl who is vulnerable with her acts in synch with that of a girl next door. Kartik too walks a thin line of not turning heroic and underplays his part well. Having said that, he is quite good in the college scenes where he is natural to the core. The young couple playing their friends have a definite part to play in the proceedings and justify their inclusion in the scheme of things. Amongst many senior character actors in the film, it is Kiran Kumar who enjoys maximum screen time and does well.

In between the light moments and the love story which is told on screen, Akaash Vani is one of those rare commercial films that has a message in store as well, which is directed at parents to be more considerate about the choices their children make in life when it comes to chosing their life partner. Though as an end goal this is well conveyed, one just wishes that the treatment would have maintained a faster pace, hence resulting in a film that would have warranted a two hour long stay in a theatre.

Mai Movie Review - Subhash K Jha - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

By movie critic Subhash K.Jha

The mother is a figure that instantly evokes tender thoughts in each of us. Getting singing diva Asha Bhosle to play the mother in "Mai" was itself a master-stroke. At 80, Ashaji, with all her years of experience as a singer of unlimited range, brings those vocal emotions into visual terms.

Ashaji does tend to under-act or not act at all in the more dramatic moments. But that inability to give a virtuoso performance in the high emotional moments is a part of the singer-turned actor's natural grace and appeal.

The film brings up a very vital domestic issue. Why does a parent become a burden for the children after a certain age? Hence, when Mai's son decided to go abroad without the mother, the daughter has no choice but to take the mother into her two-bedroom home. Then begins the taunts and the jibes. The resistance to an old forgetful Alzeihmer's-ridden matriarch in the house is well-crafted into the fluid thought simplistic screenplay.

Mai's son-in-law (Ram Kapoor) and his teenaged daughter put up a stout fight against what they see as an invasion of their privacy. These scenes are done with much inner conviction and a genuine emotional affinity to the virtues of the joint-family system.

Put on the crossfire between her husband-daughter and her frail vulnerable ailing mother, the daughter's dilemma is vividly portrayed by Padmini Kolhapure. Indeed, this is Ms.Kolhapure's finest performance in a very long time. She brings ample credibility to her part, as does the talented Ram Kapoor as her husband. The fringe characters also benefit from a screenplay which seems to know its heart better than its mind.

The scenes are suffused with a high emotional quotient but don't always display a high level of intellectual involvement in the way the crises grows in the plot.

The characters, such as the Marathi maid servant and Padmini Kolhapure's helpful boss at her workplace, seem to be constructed from stereotypical role models and are therefore more symbolical than substantial.

Nonetheless, the film's emotional content sees it through. The central mother-daughter relationship is played out at a controlled octave with both Ashaji and Padmini pitching in heartfelt moments that suggest they empathise fully with their characters' emotions.

The cinematography by Sachin Kumar Krishnan captures domestic details of the middle-class household with some amount of understated radiance. Nitin Shankar's music, especially the lullaby sung by Ashaji, resonates across the plot.

"Mai" often leaves us teary-eyed with its portrayal of a generation that doesn't know how to value its elders. The treatment of the theme is stiff and prosaic at times. But Ashaji melts all our misgivings. Her innate warmth connects well with the audience.

This is one mother we would all like to bring home.

Film: "Mai"; Actors: Asha Bhosle, Padmini Kolhapure and Ram Kapoor; Director: Mahesh Kodiyal

Vishwaroop Review - Hindi Movie - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

Vishwaroop Review by Indicine critic Joginder Tuteja.

Season 2 and Season 3 of America's thriller TV series 24 is what forms an inspiration for Vishwaroop, Kamal Haasan's recent offering which is in news currently for all the wrong reasons. While I come to the validity of these reasons a little later, the fact remains that this thriller coming out of India picks up more than just a thread or two from 24. The only difference is that while 24 has traditionally steered clear of flashback sequences, Vishwaroop goes back and forth in time between 2002 and 2012. However in the current times, the narrative pretty much unfolds in a real time fashion, just like 24.

So what one gets to see is our desi RAW agent Haasan who, just like CTU's Jack Bauer, has a job in hand to foil terrorists's plan. This means that while the entire nucleur bomb episode is straight out of Season 2 of 24, the infiltration angle where Haasan successfully manages to win the trust of baddies (Rahul Bose and Jaideep Ahlawat) finds it's references in the Season 3.

Vishwaroop Review

Engaging indeed'

Does that prove to be a deterrent though to the overall scheme of things? Definitely not as the film manages to engage you right through it's duration. From the very beginning of the film where you are given a clear hint of Haasan being different from what he appears on the front (as a dance teacher with feminine mannerisms) to the point where he joins hands with FBI to foil plan of the terrorists, you are in the journey along with him.

In fact what turns out to be a pleasant surprise are some funny moments that fill the proceedings in the film's first 30 minutes. Even in the most adverse of circumstances where Haasan is captured by the terrorists, the storyteller in the actor-director ensures that it doesn't turn out to be heavy duty. However once his identity is revealed (in a true Tarantino/Guy RItchie style action sequence), you know that the thrill element won't subside.

This is exactly what happens as the story goes back in time to Afghanistan with an extended segment of the film devoted to the war of Jehadis, their mentality, the issues they face on the home front as well as a deeper insight into their wrong doings. It has to be mentioned that this is easily the most arresting part of the film as you are totally glued into the proceedings and watch the drama unfold wide eyed.

Vishwaroopam Movie Review : Titled Vishwaroopam in Tamil

If only'

Due to this very water tight treatment of the film in the first half, one does miss the kind of tension that could otherwise have made the film's culmination as an edge of the seat affair. However that isn't really the case as everything turns out to be way too simple in the end, right from FBI and Haasan nailing down the terrorists and then subsequently averting the disaster. Frankly, I still feel that in comparison, the extended finale of Kurbaan (which was on the same lines as Vishwaroop) was much more effective and nail biting stuff.

The team does well'

Still, as stated earlier, this isn't a blemish of any kind that could turn you away from the film. More so since for those not familiar with 24, it does turn out to be an engaging enough experience. Moreover, even those familiar with Haasan's work would vouch for the fact that unlike his many other films where he ensures that camera captures him every second, he does take a step back and let script do the talking. This is the reason why both Rahul Bose and Jaideep Ahlawat get a very good screen time and they make the most out of it. They also break the stereotype of Jehadis, as shown in quite a few Bollywood flicks, what with a humane side of theirs coming to the fore. As for the women in the film (Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah) they are there as a front but that's about it. Shekhar Kapoor in a cameo is good though one does feel that Nasser could have been much more visible. Zareena Wahab is there just for one scene that could have been done by anyone.

The moolah factor'

From the box office standpoint, the film would have to fetch some real terrific word of mouth since it has just one week to make moolah (in Hindi) before Special 26 arrives. Yes, the film is good but mainly for those who are fans of spy thrillers centred on terrorism.

The final word'

As for the protests surrounding the film, all that can be said in four simple words is : Much ado about nothing'. That should rest Haasan's case!

David Movie Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

David Review by Indicine critic Joginder Tuteja.

Aaah, now this one is a film which could have been so much better! Reason being that there are quite a few striking moments that make one truly believe that this is a film coming from Bejoy Nambiar who has been inspired by Mani Ratnam in ways more than one. It is just that the excess factor of one episode turns out to be a little too much that results in David being bogged down by an erratic narrative.

The culprit here is the episode that tells the tale of Vikram and Isha Sharvani. Let the fact be stated, both actors are good in their respective parts, especially former who gets very good screen time for himself. However the episode doesn't hold good due to two factors. First and foremost it just doesn't connect with the overall scheme of things (more about that later) and more importantly, it is not just bizarre but even boring at quite a few places. Thankfully, there are episodes featuring Neil Nitin Mukesh and Vinay Virmani that do keep the film going.

The connection factor

While it is a known fact that each of the three principal characters is named David in the film while being placed in different place and time, there has been constant speculation around whether they end up meeting or their stories are connected in any ways. Well, 30 minutes into the film and you know that each of the stories is following it's own track. While you do adjust to that while wondering how the culmination would be (which is interesting to some extent), it is portions that follow that make you a little impatient, more so since this is two and a half hours affair.

These two Davids still keep it going

Thankfully Neil's story keeps the momentum on track from start till the finish of the movie, with the conclusion too being utmost satisfying. As a right hand man of a gangster, he breaks the stereotype that has been shown in quite a few Bollywood flicks. Though his love story with Monica Dogra is okay, the passive aggression that his character carries right through the narrative is impressive. As an actor too, Neil comes out with flying colours and one has to admit that this performance would count amongst his best ever.

Vinay's story about a musician whose life goes through a period of turmoil due to religious intolerance around him is ordinary to begin with (Lara Dutta angle could have been fleshed better) but starts picking up pace around the interval point. In fact some of the most exciting scenes in the second half (watch out for the sequences where he reaches out to the local goons as well as the politician who wronged his family) are courtesy his episode. However the culmination to his story in the climax too seems rather forced. One film old Vinay is good in the part that allows him to participate in dramatic, emotional as well as action sequences and one looks forward to how he builds his Bollywood innings from here.

But this one doesn't

What is forced in entirety though is Vikram's episode. It starts off unconvincingly (fight in the bar is so long drawn that one wonders if the editor had gone on vacation), starts getting monotonous (with Tabu) and is way too extended. However what totally turns you away (instead of amusing you) is Saurabh Shukla' angle. Really, to have such gifted actors like Vikram, Tabu and Shukla and still not getting the right effect on screen is rare indeed. That doesn't mean that there are no smiles at all. However in this track which is meant to be light hearted and heart warming, those touching moments are far and few.

What happens to the experimentation

This is the reason why one comes out of this rather experimental movie with mixed emotions. While the sheer thought behind the film, the experiment that takes it forward, the technique which compliments it, as well as the background score that keeps the momentum going are all worthy enough to be complimented, a jerky narrative that doesn't manage to hold this 150 minutes long film consistently is what pulls it back.

Now it's the audience call

Box office: Commercially, the film could well be patronised by those looking at some truly different films that doesn't confirm to Bollywood rules at all. However its prospects for a larger chunk of junta looks a little dicey. Its low cost as well as the fact that it would also earn moolah from it's regional releases (in Tamil and Telugu) should prove to be some respite.

ABCD Review: Anybody Can Dance - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

0

ABCD Anybody Can Dance Movie Review by Indicine critic Joginder Tuteja.

Expectations

ABCD : You do carry certain set expectations from the film when the opening credits start rolling. You want the film to be rich in dance sequences, boast of a visual spectacle and thrive on some pulsating music. Not just that as you are also almost sure that there won't be anything quintessential Bollywood in the way song-n-dance routine is presented on screen. Moreover, you also feel somewhere at the bottom of your heart that it would be sacrilege to expect something that ends up beating Hollywood in it's own game. After all, out there in West such movies are a genre in themselves whereas in India, ABCD is first of its kinds. It is an experiment that doesn't really have a precedent and hence is entirely standing on it's own footing.

In that aspect, the expectations are certainly met. You want ABCD to be entertaining but don't really expect a moon from it. Of course this also means that overall narrative of the film remains predictable (with a couple of spikes of course). However there isn't much reason to complain since one has to acknowledge that at least a start has been made in Bollywood when it comes to introduction of a new genre.

ABCD Movie Review: Anybody Can Dance

What works

There aren't many surprises from the storyline perspective either. The promos have pretty much indicated that the film is about a senior choreographer (Prabhudheva) breakig away from his peer (Kay Kay Menon) on ethical and moreal grounds and in the process forming his own dance troupe. How he manages to pull it off, bring in a bunch of disoriented youngsters together, form a cohesive team and ultimately emerge victorious is the kind of plot which is pretty much template driven. In fact it won't be wrong to say that the kind of treatment that the film sees for itself could well have been aplicable for a sports movie as welldue to it's core theme as well as the kind of message it wishes to convey. No wonder, you end up remembering Chak De India' at more than just a couple of places even though the scenes and their structure maintain their own identity.

The USP scores

Remo D'Souza does well in keeping the core value of the film intact. This means that dance forms a major part of the proceedings and thankfully the film doesn't digress from that. Even if there are traces of a love story or some personal issues (around rivalry between two youngsters or the drug problem faced by a character) are touched upon, they nevert threaten to take over the story. What remains consistent is dance and that's what you find in ample proportion right through the film.

Of course with Remo at the helm of affairs, you do see a variety of dance forms being explored. So whether these are Ganpati sequences at start (well done) and then in the end (brilliant), Bezubaan, Sorry Sorry or Duhai, you are glued to the proceedings. Ditto is the case when a few other set dance pieces intersperse the proceedings.

ABCD Review: Anybody Can Dance

What could be a deterrent

On the flipside, this also means that for those who like their dance numbers to be conventionally filmy, especially when seen in a Bollywood set up, thee isn't much to offer since what you get to see in the film has a niche appeal to it. Of course there is a good population that has been glued to the small screen, courtesy quite a few reality dance shows that play on screen. However to counter that there is also a substantial junta that hasn't really caught fancy of such shows yet. For the latter audience, ABCD doesn't quite turn out to be a must-watch affair.

The contributors

As stated earlier though, the endeavour of the film wasn't really to make inroads into an all India junta but to create a niche for itself by reaching out the target audience. In that aspect, the film works and so do the actors who contribute in making this film special. So while music and lyrics by Sachin-Jigar and Mayur Puri respectively prove to be the driving factor for the film, the actors fit into their parts well to justify their presence. Prabhudheva is required to act with a straight face during most part of the film and he suits the part. On the other hand Kay Kay is very good, as always. This man needs to be seen in more films. Salman, Dharmesh and other youngsters may be acting for the first time but don't come across as amateurs. The fact that they dance exceptionally well only lends them further brownie points.

What's that

Even though the film is in 3D, it could well have done without that since there isn't much that you take home from the technique standpoint. Yes, it does make it's presence felt at a point or two, mainly during the dance sequences, but to wear glasses for a 140 minutes duration just for that is pretty much avoidable.

The final word

Eventually, ABCD turns out to be a film which scores in the uniqueness quotient. Yes, the predictability factor means that you don't quite jump with joy or feel overtly euphoric at many junctures. However due to this very factor there is no boredom either that hits you since the film's safe narrative keeps the proceedings by and large engaging and entertaining.

At the box office too the film is a safe bet due to it's controlled budget. Moreover, it's good opening would further ensure that the returns are super quick and added moolah contributes to the profits.

An experiment that pays.

Special 26 Review - 2013 Bollywood Movies Review

Special 26 Movie Review by Indicine critic Joginder Tuteja

Expectations met

Brilliant. Simply brilliant. This is what you end up saying even before end credits start rolling for 'Special 26′. A film that goes beyond expectations, 'Special 26′ is what ends up as a highly entertaining film that keeps you on the edge of the seat (many films promise that, this one does) right till the very finale. In the times when one continues to draw parallel with Hollywood films when it comes to heist thrillers and con games, 'Special 26′ turns out to be an indigenous piece of cinema that manages to create it's own space.

Special 26 Review

What worked

In this endeavour of director Neeraj Pandey, his 'special' actors completely go with his vision. Akshay Kumar underplays his part, Anupam Kher changes colour like a chameleon while Jimmy Sheirgill doesn't mind taking a step back but still stay in the game. In the middle of them all, Manoj Bajpayee creates a zone for himself. With an eclectic mix of characters contributing to the script, Pandey ensures that the roller coaster ride keeps the audience guessing without confusing them.

It is this very fun element that ensures that you do chuckle, break into loud laughter and at quite a few places, especially in the second half, even come up with claps and applause. Whether it is the sequences featuring raids or the entire recruitment drive that Akshay and Kher come up with or the 'Indian Idol' kind of auditions that happen for the open CBI posts or the manner in which Bajpayee gets his sleuths in place to prevent a robbery, you are totally glued to the proceedings while also ignoring any distraction whatsoever.

What could have been avoided

What does distract though is the entire love track. Completely unwarranted and only turning out to be an interruption, especially in the first half where a couple of back to back songs as well as few 'almost silent' scenes featuring Akshay and Kajal bring the pace down, they could have been better off the film in entirety. Thankfully Pandey manages to keep it all short instead of filling in this space.

What keeps the momentum on

To his credit though, he ensures that the space and platform provided to him is well utilised. 'Special 26′ is one film which can well be tagged as a true blue period film. 80s is reflected beautifully, right from the hoardings to the traffic on the roads to the billboards to the political references to communication channels to the offices to the whole language, milieu and overall surroundings : Just awesome!

A major player in this whole game who keeps the momentum up is the background score that has been composed by veteran Surender Sodhi. He elevates the film to a different level altogether with an eclectic 70s style score that reminds of Amitabh Bachchan's 'The Great Gambler', 'Parwana' and 'Don' to name a few.

Special Chabbis Movie Review

The 'special' actors

Actors make sure that 'Special 26′ never gets into a frivolous zone even once. Akshay never ever allows his stardom to come in the way of the film in even a single scene. Anupam Kher, despite an experience of around 350 films, can count this as one of his Top-10 performances till date. Manoj has a huge role to play and he does exceedingly well, as is expected from him. Jimmy justifies his presence and is important to the film. Kajal is fine in her limited part. Rajesh Sharma and Kishore Kadam provide support as the script demands. Divya Dutta has just one dialogue that she repeats throughout and that too for a reason.

The final word

Right from the opening sequences where a raid is conducted at the house of a politician to a similar, but highly effective sequence that follows in Kolkata, you know that director Neeraj Pandey is playing his game well. He teases the audience, engages them, indulges them and keeps the door open for the story to even demand a sequel.

Oh yes, we are waiting for the story to unfold further, like it was yesterday. Bring it on Neeraj, Akshay, Kher saab, Manoj, Jimmy and the team!

As for the commercial returns, 'Special 26′ comes with the kind of strength and power which should allow it to see major growth on a day to day basis. Even though the film's opening isn't in line with the likes of a quintessential biggie Bollywood entertainer, it has in it to follow the route of the likes of 'OMG : Oh My God!' & 'Kahaani' and in turn emerge victorious.

A lawsuit against John Travolta relating to an alleged assault has been dismissed.

Cruise ship worker Fabian Zanzi : who accused the actor of offering him a $12,000 bribe after he allegedly exposed himself during a Royal Caribbean cruise in 2009 : moved to end his legal action on Tuesday (05.02.13) after it entered a new and very expensive stage.

The 58-year-old Savages' star's lawyer Marty Singer told Youthgossip.com: My client and our firm are very pleased that Mr. Zanzi has agreed to dismiss the lawsuit.'

A judge had previously ruled in the VIP worker's favour by denying the actor's attempt to resolve the lawsuit through arbitration but John's legal team had a motion pending before the court that, if granted, would have required Fabian to put up $75,000 for a bond if the proceedings continued.

Fabian had previously claimed that John : who is married to Kelly Preston : asked for a meal to be delivered to his room, where he then asked Fabian for a neck massage.

He said the actor dropped his robe when he went to reach for his neck and forcefully embraced him, telling him he was beautiful'.

When he resisted, he claimed the actor offered him $12,000 to remain silent about the issue.

Fabian claimed he told management on board the cruise ship about the event but they refused to allow him to write out any details.

Latest News Salman Khans hit and run case Court orders enquiry into the delay in trialSalman Khan's hit and run case Court orders enquiry into the delay in trial

A magistrate court in Mumbai has ordered a detailed enquiry into the allegations of deliberate delay in theDabangg star's hit-and-run case trial

When Salman Khan was summoned by the court for the trial of his infamous 2002 hit-and-run case on December 27, 2012, which was incidentally his 47th birthday, the superstar did not turn up. Instead, his sister Alvira Agnihotri and Arpita Khan appeared in court with lawyer Dipesh Mehta to file a petition that sought an exemption on Sallu's behalf. And surprisingly, this request was accepted by the court.

Petitioner Abha Singh, who had alleged that the police and the judiciary are working hand in glove to protect the actor, demanded an enquiry into the alleged delay in the trial. "He (Salman) is making movies and earning money but not coming to court," said Singh about the actor whose SUV had rammed into a bakery in suburban Bandra, killing one and injuring four people who were sleeping on the pavement outside 10 years ago.

True to Singh's claims, Salman was seen partying in the city even though the Mumbai police were searching for the star all over the city. Singh also said in court that the police had taken a good 24 days to serve the court summons to Salman, claiming that he was not in the city. The Dabangg dude was accused of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. But the Bombay High Court then reduced the charges to rash and negligent driving, which was challenged by Abha Singh.

And now a magistrate's court in Mumbai has ordered an enquiry into the allegations of deliberate delay in actor Salman Khan's trial. The Mumbai police in their reply have filed a statement in court denying any delay in the trial process. The court has set March 5 as the next date for hearing.

What a yummy mummy Shilpa Shetty - HOT Celebrity Gossips

What a yummy mummy Shilpa ShettyWhat a yummy mummy Shilpa Shetty

The fitness-conscious mother of one has a special secret : how to look fabulous at work. And we want to know just how she does it

So she was the babe who shook her booty to loot UP and Bihar and then bounced her way into the hormoneserrheart of John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan on a beach in Miami, becoming every male adolescent's wet dream. But then she opted to get married and have a baby, thereby gaining a few kilos, obviously, and looking rotundly gorgeous.

Of course we did not expect that to last, since Shilpa Shetty Kundra has to be one of the most fitness conscious Bolly-babes in creation, apart from Esha Deol and Bipasha Basu. Remember her yoga DVD and that flat, oh-so-flat belly and endless legs? Sigh

And now, in her latest appearance on Nach Baliye 5, the telly dance reality show that she is judging along with Terence Lewis and Sajid Khan, the curvaceous Mrs Kundra is starting to look more like her former self. The hair, makeup and perhaps shapewear perfectly in place, designer duds aligned just so : though that orange shirt and sparkly skirt combo of last time was less than successful : Shilpa seems to have gotten her groove back.

In the next episodes she is seen in a churidar kurta and chandelier earrings, looking slimmer, if not her well-known svelte self. Are we going to see less of her in near-future episodes? As long as that lovely mommy-wifey glow stays on and that radiant smile beams forth, we really don't care any which way!

Breaking News Hrithik Roshan chooses to stay away from Shahrukh Khans security controversyHrithik Roshan chooses to stay away from Shahrukh Khan's security controversy

The Krrish 3 superstar chose to play safe when probed about the controversy surrounding Shahrukh Khan's security in India

Looks like Hrithik Roshan is in no mood to voice his opinion on the controversy that has got the entire nation into a debate mode. When asked if he supported Shahrukh Khan's claim that he sometimes becomes the inadvertent object of political leaders, and therefore needs security in India, Hrithik gave a rather lame reply. "I am a god guy. I support everyone," said the 39-year-old actor in a press conference. Clearly, Hrithik brushed away the question and refused to give his concrete stand on the issue that has got his good friend SRK into trouble.

Shahrukh, in his recent interview to Outlook Turning Points magazine, had talked about being a Muslim in India, following which Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed said that the actor was welcome to stay in Pakistan if he felt insecure in India. This episode sparked a debate in the country. SRK however has clarified that he never felt insecure in India and also maintained that he is an Indian first and Humanity is his religion.

Latest News Is Ranveer Singh truly so irritating off-screenIs Ranveer Singh truly so irritating off-screen

The Gunday actor has been causing his leading ladies a lot of trouble of late

If there is one actor who needs to urgently control his excitement, then it is none other than Ranveer Singh. Though the actor is a treat to watch on screen, with all the energy that he brings to the role, it is his spontaneous and over the top bursts of energy off-screen that have left his co-stars irritated.

So, be it the IIFA Awards in 2011, or his TV appearances, or even while attending movie shows, the actor is known to cause embarrassing moments, either by his loud and boisterous behaviour or by his antics and brash mannerisms. And although he does so with a clean heart', as sources close to him say, his attention seeking behaviour doesn't always go well with his co-stars. Until now he had managed to embarrass Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor but now there's another name in the list; Priyanka Chopra. Only recently Ranveer left Deepika red-faced at a theatre where he was making rowdy comments about the movie that they went to watch together, while Kareena, Ranveer managed to embarrass at a party where he loudly proclaimed his feelings for the actor. And now the young actor has gone ahead and irked the pretty Priyanka Chopra!

Only recently, the actor, in a fit of overzealousness, managed to hurt his Gunday co-star Priyanka while shooting for the movie. His excitement got the better off him, and Ranveer, while performing a scene, yanked PeeCee's hands so hard that the actor was almost in tears. A source on the sets said that, even in the earlier takes, an over-excited Ranveer completely forgot his basic manners and hurt Priyanka a couple of times. But finally, PeeCee just couldn't take it and had to scream at Ranveer to take it easy.

Well, now what can we say! Will someone please tell Ranveer that he is not the first young actor who is good at his work! And while we all know that a little bit of craziness and goofiness is cool, but by going full retard, one can end up hurting people at times, and in Ranveer's case, literally! Tch tch.

Breaking News CBI wants a special screening of Special 26 before releaseCBI wants a special screening of Special 26 before release

Khiladi Kumar's latest con flick will be reviewed specially by the investigative agency before clearing it for release

Until now, it was only the Censor Board that was known for its high-handed and at times bizarre behaviour, culling down scenes for frivolous reasons and trampling on creative freedom. And now, joining the bandwagon in yet another case of assault on creative freedom is the CBI!

The nation's premier investigating agency has apparently started to feel a little queasy considering the upcoming Akshay Kumar movie Special 26, is a crime-comedy, based on a true 1983 story where a group of conmen, posed as CBI agents and duped jewelers. And in this Neeraj Pandey film, Akshay plays one of the conmen while Manoj Bajpayee is the CBI officer.

So now, the CBI will be attending a special screening of the movie to see if they are shown in poor light or not, and also will share their apprehensions, if any, with the makers. Well, this is a little weird, considering there are scores of movies that have been made based on real life police cases, and the police aren't shown as saviours all the time! Tch tch. Anyway, for Akki's sake, we hope that the CBI doesn't find anything too objectionable' in the movie which they think might put their shining reputation at stake!

Sherlyn Chopra kicked out from Kamasutra 3DSherlyn Chopra kicked out from Kamasutra 3D

The tiff between Sherlyn Chopra and Kamasutra 3D director Rupesh Paul seems blistering high as the filmmaker has decided to go on with her replacement. Paul is on hunt and has even approached two of Hollywood stars Eva Longoria and Mila Kunis.

For the unaware, Sherlyn had left director Rupesh Paul miffed when she uploaded a video clip of the photoshoot of the film on her YouTube channel without seeking his permission.

The director says, "I was shocked to see the video. While sharing the video, I had specified it's not for public viewing, but she still went ahead and uploaded it without our permission. We were so upset with her unprofessional behaviour that we decided to start considering other heroines. So far, we have shortlisted Eva Longoria or Mila Kunis. Kama Sutra is a more popular concept in West than in India so it doesn't matter if the actress is Indian or American."

While on the other side Sherlyn maintains that she duly informed him and is not at all apologetic. "I do not regret having uploaded the video. The photoshoot video was not shot for private viewing. There is absolutely no need for me to apologize to Mr. Paul as I am not wrong," she defends.

Sherlyn seems hardly bothered about being shown the door either. "Earlier, Mr. Paul was in talks with a Hollywood actress for the lead role. If he wishes to have anybody else on board now, he's most welcome to do so," she says.

Let's see what will be the final verdict.

In his almost two decade long career, Bobby has more than 40 films to his credit as an actor. Then why does he still feel like a stranger in Bollywood?

Born on January 27, 1967, Bobby Deol turned 46 on Sunday. Over the years, the Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 star has been known for his versatile acting and squeaky clean image as a married actor. Like his image, his movie titles also come across as quite clean except a few. When we convert these Hindi film titles into English, they don't remain clean any more (sorry Bobby!). And, as usual, the meaning and sense get lost in translation.
