Makkhi Review Revenge comes in all sizes This one could easily be passed off as yet another south Indian pot boiler had it not have a fly as its protagonist. And Makkhi scores simply because someone had the brainwave to think of a film from a house fly's perspective. SS Rajamouli's hugely successful �Eega' is served in a dubbed version as �Makkhi'. While the title may make your squirm in disgust (I mean, why would you want to watch a film about a house fly) you are in for a surprise when you start watching the film. The story is a basic revenge saga. Jaani (Nani) a good-for-nothing fella' is in love with micro artist Bindu (Samantha Ruth). While Bindu harbours feelings for Jaani, she shies away from expressing it. Meanwhile, business tycoon Sudeep (Kannada film star Sudeep) is in love with Bindu and when finds out about Bindu's love for Jaani, he murders him. Jaani is reborn as, not a human (like all typical rebirth story) but as a house fly. Yes, a house fly. The revenge of Jaani's death is then taken by his reincarnate version and story is of how the little obscure fly manages to make Sudeep's life miserable and convince Bindu that her lost love has come back. Being, the lead protagonist, the fly is your quintessential lover who will fight till the end and protect his girl from the lascivious advances of the villain. In spite of its absurdities, the film narrates a hilarious tale of a how a reincarnated housefly envisages to seek revenge and protects a human from another human. The moments where the antagonist is tormented by a fly to such extent that he insists on sleeping with an insect repellant in one hand makes for a good laugh. Kannada superstar Sudeep plays the role of the villain to perfection who is almost driven to insanity by the fly. But that film works mostly because of two reasons : its creativity and to make a mundane run of the mill revenge story so appealing. The film has some brilliant animation which has the ability to think from a housefly's perspective. The first few scenes when Jaani reincarnates himself and reborn as a fly and discovers the world and surrounding around him is simply brilliant. Everything, including a small little tennis ball seems magnified because we get to look at a world from a fly's perspective. The film also pays homage to Rajnikanth and infuses his dialogues from the film Sivaji as an introduction to the fly. With some heavy dose of violence in the climax and dollops of comedy in most part of the film, the film manages to thrill the adults and the kids alike. Watch it for its uniqueness. Music world pays tribute to Jagjit Singh Mumbai: From Shankar Mahadevan, Lesle Lewis to Bhajan singer Anup Jalota, the pioneers of Indian music industry came together to pay a musical tribute to late singer Jagjit Singh on his first death anniversary Wednesday. Jagjit Singh passed away last year following a brain haemorrhage. Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan remembered how Jagjit Singh would praise his work and the mutual respect they had for each other. "Nobody has a voice like him in this whole country. His voice will always be with us, we will celebrate life listening to his songs and ghazals. He was very close to me, we had a very close relationship and I loved him and he loved me," the 45-year-old said here Wednesday at the event organised by Jagjit Singh`s wife and singer Chitra. "We respected each other as musicians, as people. A lot of my albums were launched by him and he used to say such nice words to me, I really miss him," Mahadevan added. Singer-composer Lesle recalled how Jagjit Singh`s valuable inputs resulted in one of his most loved song. "Long time back I was recording a song and Jagjit Singh`s recording was lined up after me. When I was mixing the song, Jagjit Singh came inside and said the guitar is quite soft, make it loud. I did not want to make it loud but he said that is the fun of the song. That song was `Pari Hoon Main`," Lesle said. Bhajan singer Anup Jalota was quite happy to see people turn out to pay their respects to the ghazal maestro. "I am happy that so many are remembering him and love him that it does not feel like he is not here, you can`t feel his absence," the 59-year-old said. "I had a lot of fun with him and before he left this world we had spent two days in Dehradun. So I can never forget him, I had his blessings and support," he added. Jagjit Singh came into prominence with his soulful compositions for the 1982-film "Arth". He sang all the songs of the film, including "Jhuki jhuki si nazar", "Tum itna jo", "Koi ye kaise bataye" and "Teri khushboo mein base khat." His songs "Yeh tera ghar yeh mera ghar" and "Tumko dekha toh yeh khayaal" in the 1982-film "Saath Saath" are loved till date. His other prominent songs include "Kaagaz ki kashti", "Hosh walon ko khabar kya", "Koi fariyaad", "Chitthi na koi sandesh" among others.

Emraan Hashmi Says Live-in relationships are not taboo anymore Emraan Hashmi's long delayed film Rush, which is all set to hit the screens now, explores the trials and tribulations of live-in relationships. In the film, Emraan is an investigative journalist, who lives in with his girlfriend, played by Sagarika Ghatge. Sagarika, Chak De! India, fame plays Ahana Sharma, who hails from an affluent family and is an artist. The film shows how she has to bear the brunt of Emraan's demanding profession and how it affects their relationship. Talking about the same, Emraan says, "Live-in relationships are not taboo anymore and the younger generation has accepted it. As for my character Sam, well, he does try to balance his personal and professional life. But he is too ambitious and achieves too much too soon. He ends up paying a price for it. As a hardcore crime reporter, you could actually end up losing your life." On playing Ahana, Sagarika says, "I stay with my parents so playing a girl who is living in with a journalist boyfriend was a completely different experience for me. But I salute all those women whose boyfriends are journalists especially those working as crime reporters in television channels. Jiah Khan Says I am privileged to have worked with Big B in my first movie Bollywood actress Jiah Khan, who got the golden opportunity to work with megastar Amitabh Bachchan, in her debut film itself, considers herself "privileged" to have got the opportunity. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, Nishabdmarked Bollywood debut of Jiah who teamed up with Big B in it. An Indian version of Lolita, the film, released in 2007, is about an unusual intimate relationship between a 60-year-old man and an 18-year-old girl. "I am privileged to have worked with him in my first movie� and I learned so much from him. So, thank you god," the 24-year-old said when asked how she felt about being the youngest actress to have worked with Big B. Breaking News Yash Chopra in hospital Jab Tak Hai Jaan shoot in Switzerland halted Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra, who is making his comeback in direction with upcoming film Jab Tak Hai Jaan, has been admitted to Lilavati Hospital on Saturdayafter he complained of weakness. It is learnt that the veteran is suffering from dengue. "Mr. Yash Chopra was admitted to the hospital yesterday (Saturday) after being diagnosed with an attack of dengue. He has been kept under observation. He is feeling much better and should be home soon. Thank you all for your concern and best wishes," the spokesperson of Yash Raj Films said in a statement. Other reports say that his illness has halted the final song shoot of JTHJ. Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif were set to take their onscreen romance to the beautiful mountains and valleys of Switzerland for the song. However, now the illness of Yash Chopra has thrown a spanner in the works. Though he's said to be recovering well and may be discharged soon, the 80-year-old veteran will have to rest well before embarking on a film shoot in Switzerland. That means, SRK and Kat's romantic shoot that was to be held this week has been postponed. Jab Tak Hai Jaan is slated for a Diwali release November 13 and will see Shahrukh Khan romancing Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif for the first time.
